- The Chicago Bears are solidifying plans to stay in the city with a major investment in a new lakefront stadium. After months of talks about moving to the suburbs, the Bears President and CEO announced their plan to contribute $2 billion to build the new stadium in the Museum Campus.

Ownership had proven it doesn’t care about winning and wants tax payers billions so they have have a new toy .. to charge more and make more money. It should criminal to tax fund these stadiums.

@@johnsobey4261 The number that has been floated around has been anywhere from 1 billion to 3 billion on top of that the tax payers still owe 589 mil from the renovations to soldier stadium.

Friends of the Parks will stop that real quick like they did with the Lucas Museum. Arlington Heights is a better location with more land for entertainment and parking. Nightmare getting in or out of Soldier Field.

Friends of the Parks might be Chicago taxpayers only hope.
If any taxpayers money is used to build a new stadium for a professional organization, next door to an already perfectly modern venue, then any extra capacity should be affordable to low income workers. Ridiculous that their contribution of $2B is being made out as some sort of charitable donation when all around the world professional sports teams are responsible for building their own venues.
I just hope it has six figure capacity

I don't know why they didn't include a dome in the Soldier Field renovation. I would go to some games if they had one. I've never been a fan of nearly freezing to death just to watch football. The bonds issued to help fund that early 2000's renovation haven't been paid off yet. So I can't see giving them more money, especially since they haven't seen fit to build us a winning team in a very long time. The Bears and the NFL, who have made untold millions off Chicago fans, should pay for the whole thing. And it seems terrible to demolish Soldier Field for greenspace. We don't talk about it as much these days, but it is a monument to those who have served in the military. That is really important. It's also a perfectly good stadium. Why the McCasky Family can't work with what they have is beyond me. They already have more money than they will ever need.

Chicago Bears and Dome Stadium don't feel right. But it's a business. I visited Chicago once around park. And what a great landscape this city have and I would love to visit there again.
If the Bears still want to play in the Cold they can just open the Roof !

No guys the arlington heights is a much better space the renovation idea still dont look all that hot you got to do a whole new stadium something like the 1 in vegas but with a colosseum look to it a be great with a picture of a bear face on the dome lit up for everyone could see it!!!

Have the Bears add 500 million and the city also and split revenue and just update mass transit to the soldier field. Add a mini dome to it for the ncaa and the superbowl. $40,000 for 4 tickets. Who going to that? Turn the parking lots into fan zones. Free to all. Now you have something everyone can enjoy.
If this is true the Bears will be blessed with an average stadium with an average at best fan experience. Had a chance at world class stadium/fan experience in Arlington Heights but decided to go cheap. Fans are gonna spend $20 on a freaking hot dog with a hard dry bun made by a bunch of goofs behind the counter. No one with money is going to stay down in the city to spend it. They'd go to Arlington Heights and spend though.

Yes, but Chicago will never host a superbowl in that stadium. Solider field is the smallest stadium in the NFL, I’m really hoping they turn solider field into a dome stadium maybe a retractable roof or something. I’m sure the old historic part of solider field will stay intact. But it’s time for a bigger stadium.

I’d rather they build an outdoor stadium than a domed one. Sometimes going to those cold weather games bring the excitement. If the bears build a dome they’ll be just like Minnesota.

@@Mrcharles. - I totally agree! Bears always had that mystique of being a cold weather team and used that to its advantage when playing at home. Soon the Packers will be the only team in the NFC North with an outdoor stadium. Papa Bear George Halas is rolling in his grave!

So if they are building a dome, why does it need to be on the lakefront? There won’t be any views of the skyline. There won’t be any views of the lake. Why should taxpayers spend any money on a stadium that most average people cannot afford the ticket prices for bears games? So. With no parking, just imagine the traffic congestion before and after games. Before and after any event held at the stadium and McCormick Place. Another bit of brilliant planning by the City of Chicago “brain trust”.

Domes (like skyboxes) are BS and are way more expensive to build. Weather is a huge part of the football experience, whether you're a player or a fan. Are we really at the point where we can't go out and enjoy the outdoors and "survive" some inclement weather for a few hours? We can't have just a few hours of adventure in our dull week, instead of just looking for another opportunity to be pampered? Gimme a break. The games you will talk about for the rest of your life are the ones where you fought some crazy weather. Take away ALL of the games where there's snow or rain, players slipping on the field, slushy beer, raccoon hats, snowmobile suits, hot chocolate, the fun of gearing up for the game, and seeing your breath all day, and you take away a huge part of the soul of the game. Everything is more and more about the money, the trades, and the drafts. Is anyone still here just to watch their team play football anymore? We need to preserve what soul is left in this sport. The Bears and Packers are the 2nd and 3rd oldest teams in the NFL. Don't let Green Bay be the only one in our historic division carrying the torch of REAL football, played outdoors. Honor the sport, and honor the strength, character, and history of Chicago. SAY NO TO THE DOME!
No Dome should mean not one cent of public money to build a venue where bad weather would remain a factor in other events not wanting to use it.
Character,honor in playing and being a fan outdoors is overrated in an era when NFL football is overwhelmingly consumed on flat screen TV's from the comfort of home.

By what right can Bears announce that they will use public land for private purposes, that’s the free land I wanted to use for my mansion. Bears can leave if they want any taxpayer subsidies. huge mistake...nobody wants to go to chicago, it's nearly impossible to even get to the stadium when it's locked in one side with the lake. Arlington was perfect...many NFL teams are not in the town their name says...dallas, frisco etc etc. Most of the fans live in the burbs. It's a better decision in every single way to go to the suburbs.
Nobody wants to go to the burbs, it’s nothing there. And if the project over the metra tracks across from solider field gets built it will be a commuter train stop added and a cta train extension. The bears aren’t really trying to go to the burbs, trust me they love that lakefront location they just want a new stadium there. That’s all.
