- How to make a lamp using bog oak. The video shows how I made the lamp, from selecting the wood to cutting and shaping and finally the wiring of the lamp. I also made the mounting bracket for the bulb holder.
It is not in the video as I made it at night and the picture quality was not great so i left it out. It was an easy project to build with the cleaning and sanding being the most difficult part.
I think if I was doing it again I would use a different finish maybe an oil finish. I used the varnish as it was all that i had at the time.
The bulb holder and shade were purchased from a local hardware supplier and the wire was taken from an old broken lamp.
Always be careful using tools and machinery !!!

I think I enjoy making lamps more than any other piece of furniture. It is something that is used most of the time and never goes unnoticed. Great video and project.
Thank you very much Stephen.
Good job 👍 i prefer to use oil than the varnish
Another great looking project, I guess that bog oak is some hard wood?
That s really sharp. I have made lamps from old juniper fence posts. I have found the a pressure washer saves a lot of the clean up you had to do. Montana Wood Art.
cool piece and design, but I can't stop sweating watch you cut something with a chain saw that's not properly clamped down....
Thanks Kevin, all the pieces were clamped when using the chain saw.
Great
I've become really interested in these kinds of hobbies because of inspiring people like you. Great job.

Thanks rob!
fantastic eamon , an irish jimmy diresta ! take nothing and make it into something ! love your work, from a fellow irish maker.
Thanks again Billy!.
Eamon I don't want to sound like a nit picker but would it have been better to oil or wax the wood rather than varnish.
Hi Damian, it probably would have. In reality though the sheen is no where near as bad as it appears in the video.
Brilliant Eamon.
Cheers Dave thanks.
that was brilliant ! did you make the extended drill bit your self with the welder?
Thank you! well spotted, yes I did make it i just welded a bar to the bit and it worked a treat.
Cool I think clear would look better natural tree. But so nice
Thanks Migel
Something doesn't look right about the proportions, I think a larger lampshade would look better ! But great video !
Thanks very much Rossi.
Can you get them at Woodies, I'm in Co Galway.
You can but they are very expensive. I would try a hardware shop like www.mcmahons.ie/ or purchase online at the likes of www.ie.screwfix.com/
Exelente argentina
thats beautiful
Thanks Joey.
You couldn’t run the wire thru the base? That would have taken this lamp from good to great, nonetheless its amazing project.
Thank you very much..
that turned out great, looks expensive. the Irish Jimmy Diresta.
