    I did the same thing with my rear (what seams to be Guando) hub cause my bike wouldn't peddle right and the whole time I thought it was a rusty bearing in the crank. Come to find out it was the rear hub, opened it up to grease/mud and some rust on the prawls. The prawls were grinding the teeth on the cassette, still haven't fixed it but I'm close. I'm gonna modify or do something to both prawl and cassette to get it working again. Love the video!!

    • @KamaarhKenn
      @KamaarhKenn  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Much appreciated. Sometimes you just have to overhaul the whole thing because once it jams the pawls might get stuck and not engage correctly. Sometimes they even skip and it could be some serious problem when your knee hits the bars or the stem.

      Try adjusting the tension in the spring wire and test the pawls one by one before putting the whole thing back together. Make sure the wire has a somewhat circular profile to even out the tension all round and you'll be okay. All the best to you and safe riding 👊👊

      Just use a thin flathead screwdriver and push the spring wire out. But not with too much force because the spring wire might deform and won't work correctly

      Try using WD-40 on the axles to loosen up the bolts. Could be they're just seized on there. Or alternatively you could use brake fluid on there. It works to break down surface rust and after a while you can loosen the bolts

      Or try to bolt the loose part to the frame rly tight on the outer side of the frame works to, then try to use wd40 or other oil that penetrates and maybe bang the screw with a hammer so the oil goes in better and now loosen it.

    What size are the bearings? Should it have side to side play once reassembly?

    • @KamaarhKenn
      @KamaarhKenn  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If it's for the semi-sealed one, you can carry a few bearings to your local bike shop and get the exact size ones you need. As for the side to side play, I personally recommend leaving a bit of room, about a millimeter for the driver to wiggle. This allows for the driver to have a bit of space to move between Applying pressure when you pedal and when you let off to coast. It also helps keep the bearings for longer since they aren't under too much stress

    For the semi sealed how many bearing does it take on each side please ???

    • @KamaarhKenn
      @KamaarhKenn  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      There's about 7 or 8 bigger ones on the non-drive side and for the driver side there's usually about 11-13 or so on the upper as well as the lower grooves, which comes up to say 22-26 in total.
      Do check if there's any gaps left once you put the bearings back in and add some if necessary. I normally run my hub with one ball bearing less on all the three grooves so I'm a bit fuzzy on the exact numbers but I wouldn't recommend the same for you. All the best.

    What size are the ball bearings for the back of the driver (I know they’re smaller than the front) Looking for some myself but not sure on size?

    • @KamaarhKenn
      @KamaarhKenn  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm not sure on the exact size. But a quick trick to get exact replacements is to get a few of them as sample pieces and present them to your local bike shop/ mechanic. Then compare and make sure to get a few more than enough since they tend to get lost when reassembling them. I've used this trick for years and I haven't had any issues so far.

    • @KamaarhKenn
      @KamaarhKenn  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      If it's the first one on the video, check that the pawls and spring(s) are okay and in good condition. Hubs vary in design so some might have individual springs for each pawl, or a ring type spring like the one in the video. Test the tension by pushing down on wach pawl to see how hard or easy it is for it to rebound. If it springs back harder it means the spring is fine and your pawls are probably worn. But if there's a bit of lag in the spring back motion the spring could be faulty.

    • @KamaarhKenn
      @KamaarhKenn  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's a hard one to answer. If you have it on your bike you might have to take it apart to see those details exactly. Hubs vary in design but maintain the same principles, whether they run a sealed, semi-sealed or fully unsealed system. So if you have it with you, take it apart and you'll be able to tell what kind of bearings you need and how many of them you require. Hope this helps...
