Testing LoRa Coverage From Picacho Peak

  • On February 11, 2024 I hiked up Picacho Peak with a LoRa node to see if telemetry could be realized with TTN gateways located in Tucson, AZ over 60 kilometers away. Two gateways in Tucson received temperature and humidity data from the top of Picacho Peak.

    To me LoRa falls in the same category as Cellular it is a hit or miss reception based on Cell Tower locations. I will wait for Elon Musk to make his new satellite phone service available to the the IoT community, like getting a SIM card and adding the cell circuit to the IoT project. That satellite phone service capability and Solar powered will be all I need or want.
