I remember my mom saying she doesn’t want ramen saying “i feel like it’s for poor people” then sighs and says “well, i guess thats us” ramen wasn’t that depressing until that night. We also ate it in the dark to save energy.

Remember going out with my gf at the time while i was a broke student. I had the equivalent of 10 dollars for the rest of the week until another paycheck. I didnt want her to feel bad, so i never told her how broke i was, and we went out anyway. We went to a local burger shop and i spend like 7 dollars in a meal for her. I didnt eat anything, just a few of her fries. I told her that i wasnt feeling so good, so i didnt wanna eat. The next day i went to the store and buy all the rice i could. That week i ate like two spoons of rice a day, and drank all the water i could to keep me full. Shittiest week ever.

'Fun' story from my mom: My mother was from a poor family, and her parents were fat. Her brother was fat, and her sister was fat. She didn't want to become fat like them so she began starving herself. When she finally started eating again, all the nutrition and stuff like that from the food became fat and caused her to become overweight. She still doesn't eat much and she is now obese. She told that story as a lesson for us whenever we feel self conscious and don't want to eat anything. The good thing about it is that it makes us keep eating a decent amount of food whether we feel like it or not

@@daenaryshargett2005 that's not really how it works. Calories are still calories no matter how you look at it. Sure, there's genetic factors, but you can't get obese if you barely eat. But do make sure to eat. It's not good for your body to go hungry for too long.

When I was a kid, like 6 or 7, I woke up super early and I didn't want to bug my parents for breakfast. So I poured half a container of Kraft Parmesan Cheese and half a bag of Oscar Meyer bacon bits into a bowl and ate it with a spoon. A sad, sorry excuse for a breakfast that 6 year old me loved, and frankly, if I wasn't hyper aware of the caloric content and lack of nutritional value, I would probably dig today.

One time my bf and I had the flu for two straight weeks. We couldn't hold anything down besides ginger ale and water. Halfway through we dragged our corpses to our favorite burger place and got shakes, fries, and giant burgers. We went home, grabbed buckets, and slowly ate- savoring every bite. We threw up several times throughout the meal, but the few minutes of not feeling starving really boosted our spirits.
Very pathetic and depressing, but also hysterical to look back on.

Funeral food. It's customary (used to be) that when a family member died, all the neighbors would bring food to the bereaved's house. I lost a lot of family members when I was young. So yeah, having to choke down funeral food, sometimes through tears, is the worst. Not that the food was bad, but still.

That actually happened just a few days ago.
Because of the corona lockdown, everything in supermarkets was gone. Plus I had lost my job so my mood was in the gutter.
So I went through my cupboards to see what I could eat - ended up with spaghetti + a can of crushed tomatoes. As I poured the cooked stuff onto a plate, I somehow slid and the food ended up on the walls and floor. And I just broke down - I absolutely hate wasting food, and as this was the only thing I had left it gave me no choice but to scrape it off and eat it while sobbing loudly.

Dang, this was a depressing video. I really only just realised how bad things can get for others. I’ve been fortunate enough to not have to worry about food yet, but since I’m only a 12 year old, things can and most probably will drastically change. My heart goes out to all those who are struggling. No one deserves to not be able to have a good meal, to not feel safe, to not feel loved.
I don’t want to be one of those cheesy people who say, “Oh, things will get better, just have faith!”

Most depressing meal was when I was probably around 9, I came home from school and sat down on the floor and waited for a bit. My family had to give up my dog since my mom just had my baby sister and couldn’t care for 3 kids and a pup. I was used to coming home and sitting on the floor and my dog would sprint and jump into my lap. It was the first time that didn’t happen. My parents got me McDonald’s to cheer me up a little. I remember tears streaming down my face as I silently ate alone in a dark house, feeling really empty
Things are much better now. My old dog was given to a lovely family who adored her and I adopted a great dog when I was 12. He’s my bff and a better fit in my family so I wouldn’t want to change a thing ❤️

If there were any other recipes for tuna salad that were out there, I might be tempted to try them, if they were as simple a deal as what I've already done, but outside of a few "additions" that I like, to the basic recipe, I don't think I'd want to try it. I'm somewhat adventurous with recipes, but I can't even imagine any other way of making it that would keep it edible.

A can of Campbell's Won Ton soup. It was the take from local food charity, everyone at the table (me, dad, stepmom, two sisters) each got a different can of soup, plus, stepmom made instant mashed potatoes with a can of tuna mixed in. I think what made it so depressing was that conditions were even worse at our mom's house, and seeing my dad once every two weeks was supposed to be the escape and the place where we could go to have fun and decompress. To church charity food and Kool-Aid with no sugar.
OR...The time I brought Dad to Dairy Queen with my first paying job. ; there was a girl from my HS class working at Dairy Queen who I crushing on, hard. She was on the cash register on this particular day, so I was really acting like a big shot with my 16-year old self with a little money in my wallet. Mind you, individually I don’t much care for either. Anyhow, I had to buy it since I still remembered the taste from 15 years ago. A few days later I ran out of groceries but my local store didn’t work. The only thing I had in my house was that ketchup/mayonnaise blend and toast. My first Thanksgiving away from my family after I moved out from college. My family had moved away without telling me, and they had changed their phone number, so I couldn't even contact them, because I had no idea where they'd gone. The college dorms had shut down for the holiday, my friends had left before I found out my family wasn't coming to get me, I was completely broke, didn't have a car, had no idea what I was going to do for the two weeks school was out, and all I had was a few leftover slices of Papa John's pizza I'd ordered a few days before. I sat on the back steps of the dorm building on a completely deserted campus, shivering in the cold as I ate half a piece of the pizza, wondering how I'd survive without food, water, or shelter over the next two weeks. It was snowing.
Maybe not the worst time I've ever had (I had some real doozies, mostly also due to family -- Christmas that same year was worse), but that's the one most memorable for me.

Usually, I feel depressed after eating a really tasty meal, but it had limited quantity, or after eating a lot of vegetables without any meat or pastas; I feel like I am missing out on something celestial. That is why I get my fill of tasty foods, and limit the vegetables. I'm fine with having irritable bowels, but having food depression is a worse hell than the physical pain.
Alternatively, if I had left a friend or family member I care about in an angry state over some argument we couldn't resolve, and have my favorite meal in front of me, I can't eat it, or if I do I can never eat it again because of how sad I felt at the time. I end up remembering that feeling whenever I see and smell my favorite food. That's why the best thing I can do is eat vegetables when that happens. I can gorge on the those nasty greens while I cry my eyes out without any love loss.

I remember my mom made a whole bunch of Chow Mein, some for my sister and I to have for supper and the rest to take to a baby shower. She left for the baby shower and when my sister and I went to the kitchen to help ourselves, we saw the pot only had some vegetable scraps at the bottom. My mom absent mindedly took all the chow mein the party, leaving us with no food.
Forced to improvise, my sister and I boiled cut up hot dogs and cooked some instant noodles. I genuinely looked forward to it but eating it was nauseating. The starchiness or something made it all so gross and my stomach felt awful for half the day... I stopped eating hot dogs and instant noodles for awhile, even if they are separate.

    Can think of a few...
Made pasta with veggies and cream of mushroom sauce. Wasn't appetizing as previous times I'd made it. Choked half of it down, ate the rest later. This was a week ago.
Anytime I've survived on grilled cheese or quesadillas prior to grocery shopping. (Grateful I can!) I am now sick of GCs and may never eat another one.
When I was prepared to somehow eat instant mac in the hospital cafeteria with a straw because it was after hours and there were no utensils around. Thankfully, a worker gave me a fork. Also, that same week I had like, a cookie and a Mrs. Mays bar for dinner because the fam didn't pick me up to go eat until late because they forgot about me. (Was there because a family member who already needed round the clock care was really sick.)
Not really sad, but after I had watched Grave of the Fireflies for the first time, I'd never been so grateful to have food in my life. Scarfed down that Kraft like it was fine dining in a ten star restaurant.
Edit: Forgot! A few months ago, I went on a strict low sugar/salt regime because my triglycerides were high, but somehow I was just low key starving myself or not eating enough. First time I went to a restaurant, I was shocked when I actually felt full and realized I'd been doing it really wrong. Sadly, went back to my old eating habits and don't know how I'm doing, but my health is crap anyway, so this is nothing new. Try, try again??

I’ve got a sad one from my stepmom, then a happy one from myself to make watchers feel better
My dad doesn’t normally take work off on holidays unless my brothers and I are at his house. Last Thanksgiving, we were at our mom’s. So while I sat out on a crisp autumn day, eating sweet bread and lemoned turkey made by my mom, laughing with her, my siblings and our stepdad about whatever, my stepmom sat alone in her office, working at the computer, on Thanksgiving day without my dad or my brothers and I and without my dad’s amazing cooking.
Thankfully, she put her foot down this year and said that my dad is going to take that Thursday and Friday off since I’ll be there this year and my brothers are away in military training. I’m gonna help them cook and stuffs.
    Okay, happy one from me,
I was in my school’s musical back in Spring and rehearsals were the absolute worst. I was always exhausted and grumpy and wanted to drop dead every night. It sucked. One night, my friend, Kat, walked me to the parking lot to wait for my brother to pick me up. He didn’t show up for an hour and then Kat had to leave, but neither of us liked the idea of me being out there alone. So she brought me back to the group, then left, and my friend Abbie brought me back to the parking lot. Turns out that Kat and I went to the wrong one and my brother had been waiting for an hour for me. I was so tired and worried he’d be mad at me for making me wait, but, as I got in the car, he just said this very gentle, “There’s some nuggies on the seat for you.” Something about the way he said it, like he could tell how upset I was, just made my day ten times better. The nuggies were kind of cold from sitting there for an hour, but damnit, those were the best nuggies I’ve ever had and that’s still one of my favorite memories. In short, my brother’s fucking amazing and I love that man.
