Whoa Nelley, rare moldy oldie. Wish we had the tag, then we could brag.....here we go: VIN is A for American Motors, 8 for 1968, A for three speed automatic, column shift, 7 for Javelin, 9 for two door hard top, 5 for 440/770/DPL, M for 290 V8 with two barrel, and the rest is the production sequence and since it starts with 1, it was made in Kenosha, WI (versus being made in Canada then the last six would have started with 7,8, or 9). I believe the original exterior color was Calcutta Russet Irid, code #P50A, and it probably had a code 68R74 black interior originally. Trim tag on these from what I remember would be in the driver's door/jamb area. It would probably be for this one: Model 6879-5 for Javelin (6879-7 would be a Javelin SST, I don't think this one is, despite what the fender tag says), trim of 831 would be black, and paint of 50A would be Calcutta Russet Metallic. Yes, power disc brakes were optional in 1968 for V8 equipped Javelins: www.lov2xlr8.no/brochures/amc/68amc/bilder/6.jpg Yes, the 4 barrel was added based on the VIN # shown. I know someone very into AMCs, I'm going to share this with him.
AMC=Almost a Car or All Makes Combined. The fact that they sourced from everyone under the sun (including their competitors) meant that they were at their mercy. Hooking up with Renault was a bad move as Renault couldn't make a lawn mower that could stay in tune if they were in that business....
Have to get it for a grand or less to make it a money car and probably okay to four max on coming out with a break even car. I don't know how many are left but remember that they were a low production car. I never seen a convertible so don't even know if they produced any. I would drive it as they were nice ride and drive and didn't sound too bad for a low power unit. Bet it sold for too much
@@gordocarbo I find this is more often than not about comments made like this one four years ago, and then someone like yourself sees my comment and responds to it. I still feel same about the car and will say thank you for your appreciation.
You now have scurvy from handling them condomes. lol As much as Id wanna take that one home too far gone for me. RUst, rearended and too many parts missing. Not easy to get ahold of. Hope someone screws it back together and gets it running
Mechanical parts, yes, but body and trim, not so much so. They're out there, you really have to search them out. Certainly not a "car in a catalog" like the more popular makes and models.
$1400? Looks like the yard couldn't get her thankfully. But I wonder if that guy did lol, he was hilarious just hangin' around then leaving. He had a mask & sunglasses on, couldn't get that much exposed. What's funny is that a kid who's born after the condom exp. date is now old enough to drink & gamble! Anyways, $1400 is a bit much for me, especially if the grill is missing and the rust on near the windshield.
$1,400 is a deal, but I did see 2 things that would worry me; 1) Lots of undercoating. Many shady sellers and used car dealers use that trick to hide rust 2) The VIN tag was held in with one screw. I'm pretty sure those were riveted on, so someone may have swapped that tag
That's why I wanted to see the door tag to see if the details matched up. However, the rest of the VIN makes sense: It is a 1968, it is a Javelin, it is likely a 290, it is a 3 speed column shift. So a lot lines up. Remember, this was 1968 Kenosha, anything went back then.
Winning bid $1,400 At least it's not the typical boring ass mustang, camaro, firebird, corvette, barracuda, charger yaddy yaddy yada boy do I hate em especially when they're all built the summit, jegs trailer queen way yuck puke...thanks for the video Sir

Great candidate for restoration....if you can find the parts........
WOW, would be awesome to restore and drive 😀

Haven't seen one of these in a long time. Nice vid
Lots of potential...
Enjoyed the video man, but I saw a ton of problems with the car, I could use those seats though

I’d put 1500 in it with no hesitation. A lot of potential

So hard to find parts for any AMC. The top of the fenders would have been the first place to rust out up here.
Parts for that are dime a dozen

Cool car but parts for these things can be hard to find.✌️
Do you sell the cars you find?
Thank u for showing me texas junkyard gold!! Us central n.y. boys dont see this!!
That guy doesn’t want to be seen on camera, well half his face is already covered.
