I've sold A7C II and jumped to S9. I much prefer Panasonic colors, LCD screen and IBIS is just insane. Those 3 things sealed the deal for me although A7C II is also a great camera. Nice comparison.
It could be due to a number of reasons, I kept the white balance the same for both cameras and decided to keep the WB fine tune setting at 0 to have more "out of the box" settings for this video. But the lens can affect the colour as well as the ND filter (although if you take a look at the photo comparisons towards the end, they were taken with no ND and there is still quite a colour difference SOOC)
You really need to shift towards magenta out of the box it seems. The green isn't a skin tone issue at all. The yellow however is a skin hue issue. Almost nothing is a skin tone issue.
Both are nice cameras…thought the S9 video output edged out the A7Cii, though the Sony likely the better hybrid for a photographer simply as it has a small EVF, partial mechanical shutter (?) and has some level of weatherproofing. Choose your needs based on what you do. In US S9 plus lens $1800. A7Cii with-lens $2500..
My S5II often feels big and heavy so I want a smaller one for easy carry. I was excited when I first heard about the S9 but very disappointed when I learned that it doesn't have a hot shoe, only digital shutter and no headphone jack. I wish Panasonic could make a proper grip and add at least mechanical shutter and hot shoe, with a S9II.
Been long time user of Lumix line (m43), and just got my s9 today. Fantastic camera but misses EVF. I also ordered Voigtlander 35mm ultron1.7 which fantastic lens under $400 -used.
Good review! Very informative on practical results and conditions 👍🏼 I'm not sure of their respective size, but I'd look at Tamron's 17-40/4 or 20-40/2.8 for such a comparison though 😉
Thank you for watching! And thanks, I think this is my first ever video I filmed with my hair straight, I just did not want to do my curls this day hahah
Yes Sony doesn't have this functionality. It means that when you switch from let's say 4k60 to 4k30 on Panasonic it will automatically choose the right shutter speed to meet 180 degree rule whereas on Sony you would need to adjust this manually. Of course custom modes on modern cameras solve this issue as you can save predefined settings separately so not a big deal.
@@MrRafalEn Thank you bro, Panasonic do this in manual modes too? From what i understand when you switch 60FPS, it set shutter 120, when you switch 25FPS, it sets 50. Then you can choose whatever value you want. Actually good idea even it is not a big deal.
Yep, its just a sling bag from Uniqlo! So it doesn't have any padding or anything inside, but my camera was fine traveling like that all through Japan for a few weeks :D
Yup. Standard profile is pretty bad. It could be corrected in camera messing with gamma values. Auto White balance is also never to be trusted on Sony which she is probably using. You just have to know how to set it up. Many reviewers just go all auto everything and kind of give Sony a bad name. For strictly photography the whole color science thing is pretty irrelevant
Yeah Sony leans a bit more towards green in standard picture profile. In the log footage though, it's very easy to adjust this as you can see the colours looks very similar from both cameras. You can also use the white balance fine tune setting to make it more magenta if you like, but for this video I kept the white balance the same for both cameras and thus the fine tune setting at 0 for both for a more "out of the box" setting.
I’m wondering if it’s the lens because my a7c II definitely doesn’t have that greenish skin tone look. I’m hoping my videos aren’t looking like that haha.

I think the color and stability of Lumix are better, but these two points can be processed through post-processing, and usually the log is shot and restored to 709 color instead of Sony's standard color... Some of the more important considerations are that post-processing is not possible Processing, for example, the a7cii has a mechanical shutter and hot shoe, you can use it to take pictures, the S9 cannot.
@JuliaTrotti That was so cool! I loved all the views of downtown Sydney. It reminds me a little bit of San Francisco. That waterfront is beautiful! If the S9 goes on sale at some point for around $1k (without a lens) I might consider it, since I gues san EVF is not exactly critical, but one of "nice to haves" on my list). but for almost $1800 for the lens and camera, I'll probably just wait.
