On that backup singers/musicians point: One of my favorite live performances ever was seeing The World is a Beautiful Place in Connecticut and they had a bunch of extra musicians and local friends take stage with them and jam together. It was like a conglomeration of great friends having fun and playing music. I could hardly see how that'd ruin a performance.

Why Kendrick has aged incredibly well, and is a Top 5 MC of all time : (its very long but I would appreciate if you read my whole point and discuss in the replies) after continuously widening my library of top notch hip hop, such as listening to more songs from Kendricks discography and comparing the 80's esc style of many other Hip hop legends like Rakim and Nas along with Biggie, Big L and Jadakiss I begin to realise that this album really does match up with the best of all time in many ways. Biggie was arguably the best story teller of all time and Kendricks stories of child hood that are incredibly well portrayed on songs like "the art of peer pressure" (which grew to be one of my favourite songs of all time as I can relate to an extent) and also songs like "money trees" can easily match up to those on Biggies "Juicy" and "big poppa". Then we have the flow aspect of things, personally I'm a huge fan of Rakim's flow and how revolutionary his flow is (I see him as the best of all time) and Kendricks flows on many songs such as Isiah Rahshad's "Whats wrong?" and Flying Lotus' "never catch me" can easily match if not surpass many other artists caliber when coming to flow. Now we get to lyricism, let's cut straight to the chase, this is Kendrick's strongest aspect. His lyrics on songs such as "sing about me I'm dying of thirst"(my favourite song off of the album) and "how much a dollar cost" are just sensational and sets the standard for many decades to come. After comparing Kendrick to the greatest MC's of the past Kendrick comes off to me as the greatest all-rounder in HipHop's history, he is so versatile. He can be hilarious on songs like "Range Brothers" and "Family Ties" but can also be lethal and incredibly serious on songs like "Duckworth" and Big Sean's "Control". I think the only thing holding Kendrick back these days is, number one, his production. I absolutely adore a lot of the production on GKMC, TPAB and DAMN. although you can't help but to fantasise at just how good Kendrick teaming up with producers such as The Alchemist and Madlib - following in the footsteps of Freddie Gibbs who is brilliant (and another favourite of mine) but doesn't have the talent that Kendrick has. The second thing holding Kendrick back is his lack of competition these days, as HipHop is. rapidly becoming the most widely listened to genre more sound cloud rappers keep hopping on the trend to cop the bag rather than to make good and proper music. Unfortunately the game at the moment is incredibly saturated with low quality mumble rappers so therefore Kendrick is really in a pool of his own at the moment with low competition which gives him little motivation (as he went on a streak of not dropping for 4 years). It is at times where rappers are fighting for their reputation and dignity that they produce their best music, a brilliant example of this being Pusha T and Drake both producing their best music in ages. Had Kendrick been in the generation of the old MC's I don't think people would blink about him being a top 5 rapper, although old HipHop heads instantly have a bias against him due to the fact that he is part of the new generation of rappers. This is ultimately something Kendrick has no control over due to the fact that he couldn't decide when he was born, therefore I think it is unfair to have such biases against any modern day MC let alone Kendrick Lamar. Let me know what you think about this and I would highly recommend listening to ever song I mentioned.
I think J.I.D. might be the only guy who could possibly rival kendrick right now but I dont know if Kendrick will be making music long enough for J.I.D. to become a threat.
@@travisscottburber5719 I do like JID a lot but unfortunately I don’t think he’s really anywhere close Kenny. I think what you said is right to an extent, but I don’t see Kendrick stopping making music at least for another 3-4 years and he’ll be so far ahead of the game that JID Won’t be able to catch up. The only two people that can rival Kendrick now in my opinion are Freddie Gibbs and The alchemist (even as a producer he’s rocking the game)
@@travisscottburber5719 I would hate for anyone to be the next Kendrick, he’s the greatest of our generation and you’re right it would feel weird saying “oh damn he’s the next Kendrick” I would just be happy that such a great artist was around in the first place.

How is someone going to say something like maad city not aging well without even bothering to justify that opinion?
You just described like 80% of the opinions that come up. There will be people who say things like "Tom McDonald is the most original, influential artist of our time" and all the time I'm like "citation needed please".
10:17 this is part of why I collect records (at least until I can afford a better setup), but a bigger part of it is to support the artist. I love the aesthetic of my collection, and the feeling of owning "nice things", but I also take pleasure in supporting artists I love by buying their records, even if I already own the album in other formats (eg: CD and digital).
GKMC and MBDTF are my fav albums ever.
I listen to a pretty obscure band called Good Kid and for a second there I thought Anthony was gonna talk about them but I was sorely mistaken.
Okay, hipster
Tame Impala killed their snl performance last week. Borderline is a testament to the guys vocal skills.
I still listen to GKMC often. It's packed with great beats, imagery, and stories. "Sing About Me, I'm Dying of Thirst" gives me goosebumps every time.
10:00 not being misogynistic at all but that's just not true from what I've seen. True there are talented ones like Bjork, Joanna Newsom, Lorde and many others but you can't deny all the great music men jave done on terms of narrative. It's kind of a tie tbh
That's not misogyny. That's the complete opposite. Saying that they're equal, which they ARE, doesn't mean you've done anything wrong

With all that went on with hip hop in the 90s I think Mos Def's Black on Both Sides was a perfect closer for 90s hip hop

Supreme Clientele. That album is the last truly 90s hip hop project. Even tho it came out in early 2000.

Why Kendrick has aged incredibly well, and is a Top 5 MC of all time : (its very long but I would appreciate if you read my whole point and discuss in the replies)
after continuously widening my library of top notch hip hop, such as listening to more songs from Kendricks discography and comparing the 80's esc style of many other Hip hop legends like Rakim and Nas along with Biggie, Big L and Jadakiss I begin to realise that this album really does match up with the best of all time in many ways.
@@all-caps3927 Id be ok with that, for some reason I don't like saying J.I.D. will be the next kendrick it feels weird.
@@travisscottburber5719 I would hate for anyone to be the next Kendrick, he’s the greatest of our generation and you’re right it would feel weird saying “oh damn he’s the next Kendrick” I would just be happy that such a great artist was around in the first place. Let’s just here his next albums anyway….PLEASE
@@all-caps3927 yeah I agree I would like great artists but I dont want anyone being the next Kendrick.
