Hey Nick, thanks for your reaction. As usual, you picked up all the beautiful qualities in Jessica's voice and performance and I'm glad you enjoyed it. By the way, don't worry trying to say my last name - it's a shocker!! I won't be offended if you just call me "Kylie S" 😊
This is Jess's original song, and the original version. If I remember correctly Jess wrote this as attribute to her Mum, and it is so very personal to her. It brought tears to her eyes in the original video, and tears to mine when I first saw and heard it.
You're reacting to my friend Jess, she's like a little sister to me, I played soccer with her father and went to school with her two older sisters. This song was written dedicated to her mother who died of cancer it's a deep song
I didn't know her mum passed, my deepest condolences. I lost my mum 3 years ago too and still miss her so much. I've always loved Jess from that first Idol audition at age 16 when she blew everyone away. This song gives me goose bumps all over and I well up. So beautiful ❤️
She’s got such a beautiful distinct voice, got one of those tones you know it’s her. She won Australian idol many years ago and is a judge on the voice.
Jessica is a wonderful singer and this song has lyrics that resonate with so many people. "Set myself on fire to keep us warm ..." Glad you got to react to Jessica - fabulous talent.
You should do a reaction to the Aussie film, The Sapphires. Jessica is the main singer in a cast of brilliant indigenous actors. It is based on true events of a tour in Vietnam. It's brilliant!
Thank you for reacting to this song. This is one of my favorite song from Jess and she never fails to deliver. Love your videos and hope to see more🙏🏽🫶🏽
She is one of my favourite female singer's, she dose "chains" with Tina Arena and the Veronica's live at the ARIA awards, an amazing performance by all 4 women ❤
I was lucky to meet Jess & Damien the night Damien won Aussie Idol & Jess came runner up. They both deserved ongoing success, Damien has a stunning pure voice, as does Jess. At the time Jess was just 16 I think & she was so radiant, a very special artist from the start. Damien is an incredible songwriting talent as well as performer, you might enjoy his work too.
This is one of my favorite song by Jessica! Her voice and tone just makes this song so beautiful and mesmerizing! She should be more recognized overseas but very much loved here down under.
I was talking to someone who said that Jess Mauboy and her parents used to be their next door neighbours and every Sunday morning Jess's mum would politely knock on their door and ask if it was too early for Jess to practice, what a sweetheart and it's NEVER too early to wake up to an Angel's voice imo
Another Beautiful Rendition By Jessica ❣ Making her Famìly & Her Country Proud to know Her as a Talented Indigenous Artist . Lovin ya Style Nic ! Cheers Mate !
I just saw Jess in concert this week and now this video pops up! She is absolutely incredible and one of my all time favourite Aussie singers. The concert was amazing, she absolutely kills it every time 🔥🔥
I love her voice so much! You need to watch her, Jimmy and Keith Urban do “When The War Is Over” Please watch the movie called The Saphires which stars Jess, it’s about an Indigenous Australian girl group who goes to Vietnam during the war to entertain the USA and Australian soldiers, amazing soundtrack
The Aboriginal voices are I swear the most beautiful in the world, I heard an old old video of an aboriginal man talking and I cried it was so beautiful like hearing Forrest people that had never been changed, so that’s what you hear in her voice that pure culture of those beautiful voices
One of the few types of people that could live on the land without changing it. They understood it and sadly most of that knowledge has been lost. They had something that we could never understand and never probably will.
She is beautiful - Her first audition for Australian Idol was in the middle of the desert outside - you should check it out - she was 16 - AND in your own time watch the movie "Sapphires" in which she was one of the stars - and it has great songs - based on actual events
Jess Mauboy sang with Tina Arena for a live performance of Tina’s song ‘Chains’ when Tina was inducted into the Australian Hall of Fame a few years ago. Track it down. Its amazing. (Tina hasn’t aged)
as an aussie shes pretty much a national treasure. i remember when i was young she did a tour where she did free shows at shopping centres of poor areas. she allowed so many kids who would have otherwise never had the opportunity to enjoy live music to see her. such a thoughtful musician.
Love your reactions so much Nick. There is a plethora of great Aussie musicians that are not well-known worldwide. Jess is incredibly talented. I highly recommend you watch ‘I Am Woman Tribute’ at the 2020 ARIA awards. I think you’d like it. Jess Mauboy, Delta Goodrem and Marcia Hines are just a few of the incredible singers who were involved in this tribute.
She is amazing, has done duets with the likes of Flo-rida and others, she was on Aussie idol and one night did a Christina aguelera sone and killed it, has an amazing range
Nick if you like what you heard from Jess, I know you would love a lil Motown medley she sings which Jess starred in a little movie "The Sapphires" and she was phenomenal.
This was an amazing performance Nick. If you listen to the scratchiness of her voice in this you’ll notice that she wasn’t 100% well during this performance, yet as a true musician she powered through it 😊
Jess done a version of solid rock on The voice Australia this year,it wasn't the best performance by the guy singing with her due to nerves and all but Man it had a lot of potential
Suggestion for you for another great Australian voice/ and of the 80s era. You need to hear Chrissie Amphlet’s (RIP) voice from the Divinyls. Listen to ‘I touch myself’ by the Divinyls or ‘Pleasure and Pain’
I know you have a lot of suggestions to get through but if you enjoy Jessica Mauboy and Stan Walker they both did a song together called Galaxy, You might want to add that one both amazing talents in their own right.
She cleaned up one word from the original song. I hate when you " say shit, you don't mean" but changed it to "say things".. lol. The story behind the song is quite sad. When a parent isn't there emotionally when your young, has a great effect on a child. The video clip to this song is so much better...
Also, Jess has won Australia's version of the Oscars for Best actress in a Movie. Jess in Australia is comparable to Jennifer Hudson in the US. Jess has done a coupke of movies and also a TV series.
Another wonderful reaction bless you 🙏🏿🎤🎸🇦🇺 I love this song and Jessica sounds absolutely amazing. I would love to hear you cover a video reaction of a beautiful Gospel song called "Oceans" by Taya Smith it will blow you away. Thank you 😎🙏🏿
@@ThatSingerReactions yeah her voice seems to go through periods of rasp and cracks. Here her voice is actually healthy, I was surprised. But still, have a listen to when she was younger and I think you’ll hear what I’m talking about.

There's something unique about Indigenous Australian musicians. I've listened to quite a few and I'm always blown away by their talent.
They have strong lungs where they naturally know how to breath. They have a very distinctive tone which sounds awesome when giving out their power
On her mothers side yes - her father is Indonesian.
A good singer is a good singer. Period. Don't make this about race or ethnicity. Just don't make it about anything more than her and her ability
Singing is a huge deal to indigenous Australians. Apart from sticks and the occasional digeredo singing is all they used, and they're bldy good at it.
This is Jess's original song, and the original version. If I remember correctly Jess wrote this as attribute to her Mum, and it is so very personal to her. It brought tears to her eyes in the original video, and tears to mine when I first saw and heard it.
I thought that first too then realised he meant recorded vs live as the two rarely sound the same
This song has made me cry from the first time I heard it and I have it on repeat every time I play it… Jess is a legend. It gives me goosebumps…
You're reacting to my friend Jess, she's like a little sister to me, I played soccer with her father and went to school with her two older sisters.

That's amazing as she should have won
Actually she was Runner Up to Damien Leith. She's the better singer though and had more success.

Love Jessica's voice. She's another great Aussie talent that just keeps getting better and better. Lovely reaction.

Nice to see you’ve got to Jessica, the list is long of all the great singers we have here
This is one of my favorite song by Jessica! Her voice and tone just makes this song so beautiful and mesmerizing! She should be more recognized overseas but very much loved here down under.
She was runnier up on Australian idol, the year after Guy won. She was only 16. Her audition is amazing. You’ll see Marcia Hines judging her
no she wasn't , Shannon Noll was runner up when Guy won.. Jess was runner up to Damien Leith 3 years later
SNDreamer I said she was runner up AFTER guy won, not the same year. But I thought it was the next year but you’re right it was 3 years later

Listen to the songs she sings from the movie "The Sapphires". A lot of Motown hits upon other RnB songs. Really good soundtrack
I love that movie..love her voice too.

This song always makes me cry. I adore Jess
Her Australian Idol finale performance "Night of My Life" still leaves me gobsmacked. She was so young.
Jessica Mauboy is also an actress on shows like "the secret daughter" (a series that has a lot of singing).
