    My first guitar was an Encore dreadnought (£79 also, but in the sale for £64!) and as much as I loved it... Man... It was a dog. Hard to play, terrible intonation and just poor quality all over. But at the time (1997) paying for it with milk and paper round money it was all I could afford. The next significant step up seemed to be a Simon and Patrick, and that cost £350. Things have definitely improved in the last couple of decades for affordable guitars and equipment.

      First thing I'd do with any acoustic guitar is take it to a luthier and have a professional setup done on it. A luthier will either correct anything wrong or explain to you why you need to take this guitar back to the shop it came from; that latter advice will probably be free.

    • @florianju5638
      @florianju5638 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@snozbaries7652 That is not the point. If, for example, 8 out of 10 guitars are "shit ones", it says a lot about the Company/production. It is not about the price making it feasible to do the "order and return" trick over and over again. If you have to do this, then probably there is something wrong in general ;)

    I just made a purchase of a Washburn WA90CE from a big box store in the States. I had been passing over this guitar in the store because it was only $150. But I would strum it every time I was in the store on a monthly basis. I finally bought it this past week. I did have to dress the fret ends & level some frets, but I have to say - it sounded better than my $2000 Martin D-18. We are living in an Era of very inexpensive, but good guitars. Here’s the kicker - it’s all laminate!

  • @MrTokyoJunkie

    LOL at Justin. It's about time some more quality acoustics are being produced. Here in the States the best value for a couple of bills is typically a Yamaha. • @meadish
      @meadish 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It's a valid question. I would say that CNC technology is part of the reason for the dropping prices, but yeah, the actual humans who work in the factories can't be paid high wages if this is the price the end customer pays, that goes without saying.
      Then again, I am hopeful Andertons does try to keep some sort of check on these things.

    When these are released officially, I'd like to see a comparison between a couple of the EastCoast guitars vs the following (all prices correct at the time of commenting) : Epiphone Pro-1 in either the blue or red to stand out (£99), Fender FA-115 pack (£99) and/or FA-125 (£109) as opposed to their "budget" Squier branded acoustics as they're the same price, the Ibanez PF12MN-H (£129) and/or Ibanez PF15 (£139), and just because this is really cheapest full size acoustic guitar at Andertons: the Valencia VC204NA (£69) and the also unknown brand (to me anyway) the full size Admira Alba (£109) and/or Sara (£119).
    Most of those are dreadnought body shapes, but some are grand auditorium body shapes or have direct equivalents from the same manufacturer...of course this could easily be upwards of two days work in tandem with running the shop, however as a consumer and in the market for a budget acoustic (in blue!) I'd have to sand down an EastCoast acoustic and either repaint it or otherwise put some adhesive film over it. Personally I'd go for the Ibanez PF18-WDB (not currently available on Andertons) and there are others I've got my eye on, but anyways this comment is long enough. :) Thanks for the videos! Really appreciated Justin going into the Quo-style chug boogie in the previous vids as well. :)

    I don't usually like to be overly cynical but at the same time, these models are not out yet and the factory sent them some demo examples that very likely got special attention both before shipping out of the factory and when they arrived at Andertons. I have little doubt that they have a good action and generally play well with that in mind.
    Beyond that. I can't say that I really would want to run out and buy one of these. You don't get to sell guitars for under $100 without making compromises that are not required on more expensive mid-level acoustics. There is a reason that acoustics that sit in the $100 to $250(ish) range all tend to share a lot of characteristics and I seriously doubt that this brand suddenly found a formula to make a sub-$100 guitar that can match anything above its price class.

      Absolutely, I'm a self taught luthier and I can usually make a cheap old log play like butter, within reason 😊.....takes a good hour or two to set up a guitar and that lack of labour is what separates a cheapy from a dearer one. • @funkyhelpermonk
      @funkyhelpermonk 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@niclastname yeah, this basically is an ad for East Coast. having better brands alongside and a blindfolded Justin comparing the feel, playability and sound of those guitars will put East Coast at a disadvantage.

    • @niclastname
      @niclastname 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@funkyhelpermonk You seem to have a heavy bias, since these guitars aren't even available to try yet lmao. You couldn't possibly know of their quality.
      Also, just out of curiosity, can you list me some $79 acoustics that would put these to shame? I can't think of any guitars that are good at that price.

    • @funkyhelpermonk
      @funkyhelpermonk 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@niclastname you misunderstand me. I don't have an opinion on the brand at all. I was merely agreeing with what you said and expanded on it.
      If they were to have this $79 guitar alongside more expensive guitars and have a blindfolded Justin play them, I'm pretty sure Justin will be able to tell which one's $79 and which one is $790.
      Justin also mentioned that this easily costs 150. To give the brand a better angle, why not have this $79 guitar played alongside the 150 and have a blind Justin guess the cheapest and dearest? I think that would be a fair comparison and will put east coast in a good light.

    • @niclastname
      @niclastname 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@funkyhelpermonk You're expanding on something I didn't even say though, to the point that I don't see why you're even addressing it to me.
      The comment I replied to was talking about comparing these to others in the same price range ($79). So why even bring up $790 guitars? The didn't even mention guitars that expensive. I wasn't saying it wouldn't be a fair comparison to compare it to something in the $150 range as they mentioned. I said they probably didn't want to do something like that because it would have a massive perceived conflict of interest since it's Anderton's brand. So if they said "yeah the East Coast is as good or better", everyone is going to think "well of course _they'd_ say that, it's _their_ brand!", whether it's legitimately as good or not.

    Who makes these then and for what money? Do they actually get paid!? I mean the actual workers not the manufacturers.
    Also are they all going to be as good or is it a lottery?
    Wood is not usually cheap thees days either with environmental concerns so whats the source of that.
    I just don't think you can make a good guitar as cheap as that without someone or something paying the price

      Maybe from precision robotised factory line; would explain low cost base.

    • @weschilton
      @weschilton 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Even robotic lines cost money, and wood definitely costs money. So its either faux veneer over really crappy wood with plastic bracing, or they are simply losing money. The only way to make them this cheap is to cut a lot of corners, and/or lose money in the hopes of selling tens or hundreds of thousands of these. People are just too damn cheap these days and quality and worker’s livelihood suffers. We don’t care as a culture that some poor slob is a virtual slave as long as we get cheap stuff.
      This is wrong and I do not support it.
      I also strongly feel that this makes people treat music as a disposable hobby, since they pay so little for instruments that they do not appreciate them-and definitely not the people who make them. I’m all for accessibility, but this is too far, and sacrifices too much.

      @@weschilton Hear what you say, but: without fully knowing the full facts, I think its only fair to give some credit to those that have sourced and signed off on the product.
      Yes, sustainability (in all its forms) is a real world issue and it pays to do as much digging as you can to avoid participating in exploitation, or unwittingly handing over your income to corporations that avoid paying their taxes.
      However, assuming compliance has been met - the more people that can be reached in order to have the opportunity to learn guitar, the better. If it doesn't work out for them then there is a good chance it'll be advertised, or even given away thus providing an affordable opportunity for another person to learn; and that has to be a good thing.
