The intro was amazing! This was also the first gliding video I've seen that's had a story from the area where the flight takes place. Adds a different depth to the video and makes it really interesting. Great job!

That Arcus Winglet at 7:22 looks awfully familiar ;)
Great Meeting you and sharing some miles on the Ridge.
Another phenomenal video, keep ‘em coming!

Your frank, funny, honest and informative play by play made this a joy to watch for those of us who don't do real life soaring. Well worth the watch.

I loved watching that flight, as my wife and I were both in the UK armed forces, and we had our home at Bad Oeynhausen, and I worked in Hereford, and Janet worked at BMH Rinteln. We used to got to see the Kaiser monument regularly. Thanks for sharing your flight. Kindest regards, Dave W 😀

if the vario shows more than 1m behind this tow plane you can release, because you know there is reall climb

@9:33 this is nice view as it shows that gliding is constantly looking around in the air for lift

Have been over Porta many times on flights from Bisperode on the Ith nearby. My club was Luftsportverein Hameln, now living and flying near Chicago in my ASH 31 Mi. Thanks for the memories, Simon! Your heroic jump to the Ith was kind of bleh since you arrived over the ridge with Bisperode right next to you.

Awesome that you are flying a 31! Indeed that might make it less heroic, but only IF you have someone retrieving you!

Great video, I am happy we have some guys like you in the soaring community who are able to do such editing.

Since everybody just talks about the intro (which i also liked), it seems i have to be the one to praise you for the REAL wow moment ;)
14:30 What a great shot of a really beautiful break out the formation. Thanks for sharing that moment and that flight!

Wow, I think I would be having a "conversation" with that tow pilot after that flight. There is just no reason for such a shallow climb after launching. A little altitude improves safety margins dramatically.

It was a motorglider and they were flying downwind so I think it's all it got

Ha-ha! I had an aerotow out of Unterwoessen like that some years ago, in a DG500 22m with 2 (overweight) gits onboard!
The Falke started turning at about 50 feet above the ground and it took us 20 minutes to reach 3000 feet. It was quite intimidating, to say the least. :-)

That was also my misunderstanding of tow pilots. They should tow the way that glider pilot (and themself) will have safe landing field always inside in case of engine or rope failure. What is up with that? :)

Seems like a very shallow, slow climb. If there had been a tow failure it would have been problematic making it back to the field.
