A band is very much like a marriage. sometimes people grow apart and have different visions of what they want out of life. just love every Nightwish vocalist and every song. They are all very special in their own unique ways.

About the reasons of the split, it's a... long story...
Just know that this concert was her last one with Nightwish (though she was the only one on stage not knowing it...), before being fired. Both sides have their version on the way it happened, we were not there, so...
Then came Anette for 2 albums, then Floor in 2012
exactly.. I feel like not diving too deeply into it is better for your peace of mind and to enjoy the music for itself.
All in all I'd say it was a stressful time for them, lots of touring, lots of miscommunication, Tarja wanted to leave the band, the band decided it's better to part ways a bit earlier than planned, both sides had good reasons why they wanted to seperate. Only the how could've been done better. But they're all still making music and everyone seems very happy and that's what matters I think.
I actually got introduced to Nightwish with this song. The operatic style with the metal drew me in. It’s actually been less than a year. I’ve come to love all the eras, and all of the band members. It’s such a joy to watch them. I have a special soft spot for Empuu. He always has a smile for everyone.

I've been a fan for almost 2 decades and I refuse to pick a favorite singer. All Nightwish eras are meaningful to me. I'm so grateful for this band. 💞💞💞
Edit: There definitely was tension during this concert, btw. All the band members knew it was Tarja's last show with them... Expect Tarja. There had been lots of drama for years and she was fired after this concert. It was painful for everyone in the band, and the fans. Lots of people have yet to move on, which is a shame because all previous and current band members definitely have. Even Floor and Tarja are friends.
To ask me to choose between Tarja and Floor would be like asking me to cut off a limb.

@@alexandersteinmetz6857 Exactly, we don't have to choose. Old Nightwish was awesome with Tarja and new Nightwish is awesome with Floor. I usually prefer Tarja on older songs, but on some day I need to hear Floor's version. It's not a competition, and I'm so glad we still have Nightwish after all this drama and setbacks.

This was the first Nightwish song I ever heard. It is what drew me to this band. Second song was Ghost Love Score with Floor. The third song was Amaranth with Anette.......all within one hour. I was very confused. I love ALL the lead female vocalists from this band. Why did she leave? She was fired. She was going to start her solo career and told them she was leaving the band after the next album, but would not tour to promote the album The band cut their losses and she was dismissed.

If you are NW fans...you should know Tarja. She was the third founding member of the band (with Tuomas and Emppu), made this band famous with during 12 years from a school band to leader of the genre in the world. She also recorded more albums with NW than other female singes together. NW voice is based on her singing and later came the replacement singers to her. This is the greatest version of this in metal NW vibe there is. They also act the roles of Phantom and Christine so well.

nightwish have very lucky that they have 3 amazing lady singer, every singer left they mark in band. thanx to great reaction and have wonderful weekend. it´s fiesta weekend in finland.
This was the video that introduced me to Nightwish about 7 yrs ago. I was stunned, and immediately fell totally for this band. I became obsessed with finding more. And Then --Came Floor!! Totally over the cliff.
This is TRUE Nightwish! Only with Tarja. Only!
Triangle drama happened, with Tuomas, Tarja and her new boyfriend Marcelo. That make it hard for the band to function, and they divided in two camps. And also the boys wanted longer world tours and more gigs than Tarja. She kept suggesting cutting continents off the tour, and cutting smaller gigs off. And boys received those suggestions very negatively. So after a few years of that Tarja told she would be leaving the band after next album's world tour. However, as the "Once" album cover hints (Tarja's pseudonyme is "angel") the boys decided to fire her before the next album. And with the next vocalist Anette they did their longest world tour ever, and exhausted her (too). Anette had a lot of vocal and health problems as a result, and also her mood suffered and she gained stress.
All Nighwish ladies are great and they deserve nothing but love and respect. I'm an old fan, so it is always great to see reactions to this original line up. I say original, but Marko only joined in 2001, and Nightwish had three albums already, two of them with the first bassist, Sami Vänskä. (Emppu played bass on their debut album because they didn't have a bassist yet...and it was only supposed to be demo).
Tarja- the j is pronounced "y" and roll the "r" if you can.
She and Floor are friends and there's no need to compare or choose one over the other - I LOVE THEM BOTH!

The "Tarja" situation, what can I say....
2005 was a delicate time for both Tarja and the band.
The fans were involved, the media was involved, and the fact that not only the keyboard player, Tuomas, was losing most of the fan base, the media was pointing fingers as well, and he lost a childhood friend (Tarja).
As much as he didn't want to, there was friction within the band and something had to be done.
The result of this was an almost 2 year hiatus by the band as Tuomas was in deep depression entertaining thoughts of suicide.
As we all know, that didn't happen.
After an obviously deep conversation with his mother, he decided to continue forward, get his thoughts together, the band, and a new singer.
Anette Olzon joined Nightwish for the album following the events of 2005, Dark Passion Play released in 2007, in which Tuomas included a song that allowed him to carry on the legacy of Nightwish.
I mentioned earlier that he had thoughts of suicide, and after that conversation with his mother, he decided to kill himself in the song so he wouldn't have to in real life.
Dark Passion Play was the outlet he used to release himself from the demons that haunted him after firing Tarja. His feelings were all over the lyrics in most of that album.
So that was the short version of the events that took place in regards to Tarja. I'm sure the Army will fill you in on everything else I missed including the name of the song.
The reason I didn't mention the name is because many will say you need to listen to more Nightwish and learn more about the band and their history. When you do react to that performance, have some tissues handy and look for the lyric video performance.

Tarja’s is part the original Nightwish lineup - the history of that is also evident when you see the emotion from Tuomas when they perform Everdream at this same End of an Era Show.
I also like Tarja singing Sleeping Sun and Dead Boys Poem.

Annete followed after Tarja then Floor. And Floor was / is the perfect fit - Tuomas has said if Floor leaves - that he will end Nightwish.
I'd say Nightwish either builds their songs up in a way that keeps you on the edge of your seat, or they hit you so hard with the first chord you have no time to prepare whatsover 😄
Maybe try Wishmaster from the same concert! That's one of those songs that go !!! from beginning to end :)
Aaaand if you're interested in hearing more older Nightwish songs with Tarja, I warmly recommend Deep Silent Complete Live in Amsterdam (2002).. it's beautiful!! Her voice had a very special timbre back then that you don't find often. I adore her⚘

This was the last performance with Tarja. Tarja did not know it but the rest of the band did know. You can see it in their eyes. After the concert they gave her a letter sacking her. She had already said she would leave after the year but the band decided to let her go immediately. There was a lot of stress between them and Tarja at that time. It spilled into a big media war and Tuomas almost killed himself because of the media aftermath. It turned into the song The Poet And The Pendulum of which you have to see the Wembley performance.
This was the very last concert (End of an Era in Helsinki, Hartwall Arena, 2005) that Tarja sing with nightwish, directly after this show they handed her the letter in which they tell her she is dismissed from Nightwish... yeah. And it started the big turmoil, that led to (among other things) Tuomas feeling very depressed, and writing the song Poet and Pendullum (at that time, even without any female vocalyst at all)... but if you go into that one, plese know it is one of the "great trinity of Nightwish" and THE one which is deep, and allmost heartbreaking... that'll be and half hour video single-handedly... no quickie!
Wise reaction!! Not comparing both singers seems the best way for enjoying any Nightwish sing. By the way, Anette Olzon (her birthday was yesterday) was the second singer, "replacing" Tarja. Anyway, I feel you are fully prepared now to react to The Poet and the Pendulum. The Poet and the Pendulum is the first song of Dark Passion Play with Anette. However I strongly recommend the Wembley Arena version with Floor, but first read about that album and what the song really means. The story is "outrageously insane" and the band's performance is mind-blowing ;)

Please don't cut your talks short. They're just what's interesting! :-) I suppose you both might know slavic languages? Tarja is a Finnish version of slavic name Daria (or Greek/Persian) and pronounced almost like that.

I heard Nightwish with Floor singing first but have gone back and listened to nearly all of their albums and many live performances. I think Tarja shows exceptional talent and versatility singing Siren from this same concert you have watched in this reaction. Marko has a beautiful part as well.

But i have enjoyed NW and every singer since they started.
They all have some strenghts..altho i have to say Floor IS most versatile of them.

Tarja was forced to leave the band after this concert, it is a long story, read Gabriel's comments. Tuomas became very depressed and considered killing himself but turned the emotions to compose fantastic Poet and Pendulum... It is a long and sad story but now everything is well and Tarja is having her own carriere
High hopes they are performing without Tarja who was changing her clothes, you can look pn the men's faces, they know they are going to give her a letter after this concert that she must leave... They felt that she was not anymore connected to the band enough, and they felt they cannot continue with her. She was shocked and Tuomas got suicidal because "half the Finnish population" hated him.
Then came Annette and after her Floor.
Nightwish doesn't end because of this kind of changes
She was fired for being a DEVA!!!!

Sarah Brightman is the original singer from the original song and she´s wife of Andrew Lloyd Webber...composer from the song.
To be completely honestly, I prefer the old songs with Tarja. But since the band finished work with this singer, it was amazing that they put Floor in. Floor was the singer of the band After Forever, and it was one of my favorite bands along with Nightwish with Tarja.

In my opinion, it's not just about this or that singer: it's about Tuomas' genius too.
He choose how to write a song based on the instrument (I mean vocalist) he has in order to enhance the singer's forte, be it the power, the versatility, the range, the timbre or the weight of her/his voice.
As an example, Anette's rendition of "Slow, Love, Slow": why should a metal composer write a JAZZ song?
Because Anette's soft voice will fit that style like Cinderella's foot fit the glass slipper.
Or the recent "Harvest": the calm and earthy voice of Troy matching perfectly the song's theme!
Should I mention too how he was able to rely upon Marko's ability to shift between characters like a theater actor? From a sweet lover to a sea devil?
Of course everyone of us has their own preferences, but it's safe to say that Tuomas knows well how to gift everyone's ears with songs tailored on the main voice!

Great reaction guys, whilst my favourite era is the current Floor era there is no denying the brilliance of Tarja, and Annette, and the incredible music they contributed to whilst in the band 🤘
I keep thinking Marko was very undervalued in the band. He has such an awesome voice and charisma.

I haven't read the previous comments but I'm guessing many would've said similar things to me - in that although this is absolutely brilliant (Marko's vocals at his best) and Tarja too! But I hope you check out Floor singing 'Phantom' with Henk Poorte) on a Dutch singing TV show called 'Beste Zangers' which really is a must see!! And other Floor performances from this TV series. Always look forward to your reactions - they brighten my day! 😃 🙂
Tarja and Floor are truly exceptional artists and each one is unique in its own way. So Floor also performs the Phantom of the Opera completely differently - but not worse or better. In any case, you should also listen to the version with Floor.

Jeśli chodzi o wymowę imion i nazwisk wszystkich członków zespołu (oprócz Troya, ale z wymową brytyjskich imion nie będziecie raczej mieli problemu ;) ), to na szczęście dla nas wymawia się je tak, jak się pisze i jak byśmy to przeczytali po polsku. Wiec po prostu Tarja, bez gardłowych głosek. To tak na przyszłość ;) Resztę napiszę już po angielsku dla wszystkich :)

There is something so pleasant, natural and captivating in your reactions and your relation I feel like I'm watching two of my friends having fun.
