I chose to go with Peach. I want to keep Mario and Luigi's stats and levels in sync with each other. Plus, I really love the idea of Peach using her kidnapping situation to her advantage and using it to help Mario and Luigi on their quest by serving as a mole to give them information.
Pfffftttt, Peach feels nothing for Mario and she has no intention of helping him. Notice how she's never playable UNLESS you specifically choose her. If you don't choose her, she doesn't do anything, so canonically, she's useless and dumb

It used to bug me in other M&L titles where you’d get separated and one bro would somehow level higher than the other. I liked them to be equally leveled on my playthroughs.
While seperate level ups aren’t that big of a problem, it doesn’t feel right for bros to not level up together. In which case, I’d use accessories that can boost individual experience gains. This is also helpful on the off chance one bro is KO.d when gaining exp.

I made luigi go thinking i'd have to break in as Mario and Break Out as Luigi until we reunite. But it was hardly a big escape on Luigi's side Also it wasn't hard but i did get my 2nd gameover because of the new enemies. New enemies means new attacks and counter timings and that got me killed.
I actually did this in the game, because the Bros. were unbalanced and Mario was way stronger. I thought that if I did this, Luigi woiuld have a gameplay section with him battling alone... and then everything just unbalanced even more. Lmao. If I had know what really was going to happen, I would've sent Peach...

I picked Luigi and I deeply regret it. Not because it briefly made the game harder, but because it massively desynced the bros levels. Not finished it yet at time of writing, so no spoilers if there's a Luigi only segment coming up, but I really hate how much they desynced, especially given I was actively trying to avoid fights as Mario during that time

Just use a EXP boosting accessory on Luigi. For minute numbers, kill the first few enemies on Rumbla Island until EXP syncs.
