  • Japanese woodblock prints have long influenced a wide range of art, from Impressionism to modern anime, manga, and contemporary artists. The Star Wars saga, too, draws from Japanese culture, originally inspired by Akira Kurosawa's film The Hidden Fortress. Fittingly, the 2025 Star Wars Celebration Expo will take place in Japan, merging these two worlds. Japanese artist Takumi was commissioned to create the event's ticket artwork, incorporating classic ukiyo-e themes and motifs. In this video, we’ll dive into Takumi’s designs for the Expo and explore their connections to the styles of traditional ukiyo-e artists. I believe that Takumi has also done some Avengers prints in that same Yoshitoshi style as well.
