Mountain Dulcimer Lesson: Legato Fretting Techniques

  • Here's a short tutorial on how to find a smooth, lyrical and legato line when playing the fretted dulcimer using a chord/melody style. I'm using sections of the tune "Past Time With Good Company" to demonstrate. The arrangement by Cyntia Smith is available on her album called "The Early Years" (Ruth Barrett and Cyntia Smith), available on iTunes. The dulcimer I'm playing is by Dale Foye of Aeouls Music (www.aeolusmusic.com).

    This dulcimer sounds more like a guitar. Beautiful

      Thank you so much. It can be a bit guitar like at times, but it's definitely got a nice dulcimer voice to it as well, depending on how it's being played.
