We bought the car from the WD lads and I have to say it is in superb condition both cosmetically and mechanically. We did some minor paint work to finish it off. What a lot of people don’t realise is that they do a few repairs for tv, but then after filming a team of mechanics got thru the car and complete much more, as it would be impossible to show all the work in a one hour programme. Great car guys we are giving it away on our website at the monent 👍
Incorrect..head gaskets can rot if there's no anti freeze.....cars need to be used...any gaskets can degrade over time, and this car hadn't been used in nearly 20yrs..its prudent to change that gasket as its such a rare engine..and head gaskets are cheap....
@feydespiel. definitely a good idea to consider it and do it, I don't rgink anyone is arguing about that. But how they dramatised it and refused to rest the car etc was over the top.
I did not own a Peugeot until 2005 when I bought a second hand 206GTi with 36,000 km (22,500 miles) while working in the middle east. What a car. Fun. light, good handling and this was due to its low curb weight. The only problem was the low gearing where in top gear (5th gear), teh engine had to spin above 3000 rpm to reach 100 km/h 62 mph).
I've got one of the few remaining Phase 1's. A 1992 non-cat with full leather. Not roadworthy as it needs a bit of work, but have most of the parts needed to restore it. A lot of parts are unique to the Mi16 and are impossible to get (literally). They're right about the Portuguese weather saving this example as they're known to rot the rear chassis legs, and behind the front bumper Unfortunately most of these cars were lost to 205 engine transplants. Best handling fwd car ever in my opinion
Absolutely loved Peugeot 405. Had two and wish I still had it. Also had the 406 and 407 estate cars. Diesel were phenomenally great on fuel economy and they never seemed to rust
I had an Mi16 in the '90's,it had been lowered and stiffened slightly and fitted with TSW "Evo" alloys. The hand brake was pain, always sticking on,the plastic clutch beak was a pain,it blew a diff out of the gearbox,it blew the head off,but boy when it went well,it flew. These things were rocket ships, but pretty troublesome at times. I like Brewer, but he's a right robber when it comes to paying the price the owner wants.
Really? The "negotiations" we see on the program are hardly the real deal. All of the negotiations are completed well before the program is taped; what we see is a phony reenactment.
I had the MI16 here in the USA maybe 15 years ago. I wasn’t in the position then to work on it myself, and there were very few mechnics who would. I won’t bore you with the issues, but I ended up parting it out. 😢
@@chrisparr7476, no, actually @petticlone has a point. These had very little rust issues unless they had seen the other side of a hedge and had some bad repairs. Body’s weren’t prone to rust at all (unlike Mercedes and Opel/Vauxhall of that era). Bit of a false statement of Mike, that.

Brewer has come a long way , a few years back Brewer would have cut a biscuit Tin up pop riveted the tin on covered it in under seal , got it through an MOT back in the U.K. empty a bag of saw dust in the gearbox , bit of gaffer tape over the broken bumper. , get it trailered back and knock the delivery driver for £1500 , buy it for 300 and selling it for 3K Now he has Elvis to do it 😊 Love you all
What happened to that 405. I’d buy it in a heartbeat. Had three of them back in the day and I’m at that stupid age now of wanting cars from youth. mi16 would do nicely

You Guys know this job, not only a great episode but also includes how to trade, mechanic instructions, how to reduce costs.. Thank you for lesson👋👍
I had a '92 Mi16 LeMans. Jeez, I so regret selling it !
Head gasket bad from sitting around..... bullshit 🤠
Thank god someone else noticed this. I was about to write it.

Former owner was a mechanic normally scares me!

If you're looking for rusty cars of the 90s Mike look at Fords and Mercs, not French cars. They were very well galvanised
Push caliper back on old disc and bleed fluid at the same time!
When I worked at shell oils they had a few mi16 in metallic grey for testing the engine oils

Half of a 12 minute video listening to Brewer blather on. I watched this show because of Ed, Ant and Elvis.

My SRi was red like this one :-) Lovely car to drive.
@@petticlone The SRi 405 was a very, very underrated car. 125-130 bhp under the bonnet meant they were pretty swift.
My father have one in Jamaica I tried to start it up back after 11 years
Bit of nonsense about 405's being prone to rust. They weren't really. Great episode otherwise!
I think any car driven on uk roads in winter. Is prone to rust,! Unlike Portugal or here in Australia

rear axle was the issues
Why didn,t Mark check for air bubbles in the coolant tank , to check that the head gasket was intact ?????...Takes about 20 secs....no tools needed..
