  • After 17 years, data analytics company Palantir is making its public market debut. Best known for its sometimes controversial work with U.S. government agencies like the CIA, the DoD and ICE, Palantir has increasingly been working with commercial customers as well, which investors hope will put it on a path to profitability.

@@DhrubajyotiRaja01 Spotify does not count the (Federal) government as its largest customer. Uber, Lyft, AirBnb, Amazon also do not count the government as their largest customer (although the government does spend a lot of AWS) . The standard approach when dealing with the government is to add those initial costs in -- see.. well.. basically any government contractor -- especially those dealing with DoD, CIA, etc. That is the whole reason you get government contracts. Quote from Peter Thiel...”Consider an elementary proposition: companies exist to make money, not to lose it. This should be obvious to any thinking person. But it wasn’t so obvious to many in the late 1990s, when no loss was too big to be described as an investment in an even bigger, brighter future. The conventional wisdom of the “New Economy” accepted page views as a more authoritative, forward-looking financial metric than something as pedestrian as profit. Conventional beliefs only ever come to appear arbitrary and wrong in retrospect; whenever one collapses, we call the old belief a bubble.”

I have actually used palantir front end software as a managing director of IT in my department for the global firm I’ve been working at since 2012. Integration with palantir initiated between 2017-2018. I must say they spare no expense and really get the expertise on sight quickly and unlike other competitors really tailor make their solution to our criteria and listen to us and not just leave the internal teams to it. The suite is good and interactive and data integration is the best I’ve seen especially between legacy datasets. I can see why palantir suite works well with government because of the strength of the backend. If the key staff stay on in this company and don’t cash out and life on an island, this will certainly be a company of the future

I even think this series was based on PLTR capabilities and huge potential. Salesforce "CRM" is just one of the many industries that pltr will disrupt (so as a small analogy of many potential analogies, i will argue that if PLTR can easily blow out of the water salesforce CRM company, and salesforce is at $212 , pltr price target should at least, at the very minimum be higher than that. When I sold Apple II and then McIntosh computers, I was always somewhat amazed at the IBM DOS users who didn't or couldn't grasp the concept of cut and paste. honestly, what these companies do is essentially reinforce what people already know. The holy grail is whether the software can consistently create models that can reliably predict and not just describe the data. Unfortunately, most of these data mining companies are just doing best guesses from people. Madoff's scheme was uncovered by Markopolos, bin Laden was by CIA using red team techniques (using people's experience to challenge reports), and SAP already has analytics packages for those who already have SAP S/4HANA installed. So what exactly does Palantir bring differently to the table?
