I was 7 when “Halloween” came out and managed to tape it off HBO. From the opening scene to the last it didn’t just scare me; it made me paranoid. I thought Michael Meyers could be anywhere at any time and Carpeter’s skill as a director and iconic minimalist score added to the dread. Dr. Loomis’ description of Meyers as his patient was chilling. Jamie Lee, Nancy Loomis and PJ Soles created distinctive characters we cared about and wanted to survive. It was over a decade before I could watch it alone and really enjoy it as art but that music still sends a chill through me. 🎃

This video was so good it should be a 60 minutes documentary. I want more! I loved everything you said about the movies and I loved the movies you chose. I would add Pet Sematary, The Stuff and Fire In The Sky and it would be just perfect.

The 90s era scared me the most. Candyman and The Blair Witch Project scared me the most. I still won't say his name in a mirror. The Blair Witch had me scared to go in my backyard at one point.

So many good ones in this list. "The Texas Chain Saw Massacre" is one of my favorite films, ever. It's a miracle of low-budget filmmaking; it's so intense in parts as to be almost unbearable without showing much blood or gore at all. I still vividly remember seeing the TV cut of "Halloween" on Halloween, 1981 on NBC when I was 12. "The Thing" is just beyond compare....I remember its release, which was almost simultaneous with that of "E.T." and it just sank. I'd say that today it's more fondly remembered and finally found its audience...I watch it every year, but it's been 25 years since I spun up "E.T." I saw "Child's Play" just before Thanksgiving, 1988 while in college. That viewing is my fondest cinemagoing experience to this day...it was a midnight showing and the audience was very rowdy in the best possible way. I saw the Blair Witch fake documentary on the Sci Fi channel a few weeks before it came out and was totally fished in...though it was real even at age 29...I saw it opening day and the theater was packed full...there were even people sitting on the floor in front of the screen, which the Fire Marshall must have loved. So many shrieks, gasps, and much heavy breathing in that audience. I watch it every year. Have you seen the British found footage film "'The Borderlands," aka "Final Prayer" in the states? It's a banger.

i like 70s horror movies best. They pushed boundaries and had a more raw storytelling. There was also a lot of experimentaton. Honorable mentions: When a stranger calls, Suspiria and Black Christmas.

Great lists. This is the main franchise that transcended these decades :
    Alien (1979)
    Aliens (1986)
    Alien 3 (1992)
    Alien Resurrection (1997)

Jacob's Ladder is so intense. It's a powerful examination of insanity. And like all those other movies, it wasn't about slashers and monsters and serial killers.

I was born in 71 , so i grew up on all these movies. The only movie to actually scare me was the first scary movie i seen,The Exorcist. I'd have to say the 70s and 80s were my favorites. The 90s were good too but I didn't really care for the Blair Witch and then with CGI happening, I lost intrest in most newer horror movies. I prefer to rewatch all my favorites from these three decades.

The 80s and 90s were the best time period for horror movies a few in the 70s a few in the two thousands and even a few cents then but it's few and far between

I loved everything in this episode except the candy man I thought it was horribly boring and not scary at all other than that I wanted more
