He was missing throughout most of the season because when Ollie turned evil he had the portal key in his sword from fighting the other villains and kicking them through the portal. When he turned evil he sent Zayto through the Portal trapping him on another planet and no one knew for a couple episodes. The reason that he wasn’t in the battle with the dark ranger was because he had passed on to the morphing grid because he was sustained by the magic of the morphing masters (which at this point were captured). And he was slowly dying by using the staff. By that time he died because Zedds palace fell on top of everyone because of a self destructive sequence and he shielded his teammates using too much magic in the process killing him. Zayto has his own mission to conduct, probably finding a way to defeat Zedd, which would be an impossibly for any Ranger team. Zordon had to sacrifice his essence to do that. A new team must be chosen after the destruction of past teams, a team outside of the frequency relationship. They should show how powerful Zedd really is after recruiting other villain bosses for a negative Ranger-like team, coming in the finale of Knight Guardian Team. He would blast them all once into a depowered state. Billy would be shown to have survived Zedd's attack through use of a Doppledriod, his decoy was destroyed, he summons Andros to take that team and himself to Eltar. Zedd would teleport to his throne on Eltar waiting for them. They manage to sneak past many minions and monsters, to get to the vaults. They struggle to get it open and Zedd appears. Andros and Billy officially morphs and orders the team to focus on getting the door open. The doors open as both Andros and Billy are destroyed. The team attain the Smart Morphers and attain the new power needed, the team is shown to be capable of holding their own against Zedd, who decised to flee for now. Earth must be saved from the empire created by the other villians while Zedd finds the lock and keys to find the Master Forge. Final battle brings back everyone whos been destroyed via a grid reboot along with all their zords and powers, even ancient Rangers and close Ranger allies like Blue Centurian and Phantom Ranger, this battle would be the end of Zedd.

Also there is a scene of Amelia making a swing with the hammer and Blasting Ollie who’s in a Dino Fury suit. The large battle they are in is what will end in the loss of the Dino fury Powers. It appears the new powers are given to them by Billy. Also the Show Runner has stated that Zayto would not always be with them because he has to do his own things.
