    On the blu-ray of this film, they have a nice, comprehensive account of how they set this up, using old, decommissioned diesel engine cars. You get to see some extremes in the laws of physics this way, since it's a real diesel derailing off the tracks. it's pretty impressive when the engine car is off the tracks completely, and its nose plows into the earth in front of it and showers the dirt forward like a 35 mph bulldozer-from-hell. Weighing nearly 100 tons, and being of such incredibly solid construction, it doesn't stop, it doesn't crumple; it just gouges the earth, flinging it forward as it continues onward.

    Finally got to see this in July. Booked a motel in Cherokee not 10 mins away by car, and parked by the park. Looked over the side and saw it, but too steep to get down. So I found a nice area by a driveway and parked there. Trekked about a mile to get there, but I was ecstatic. Bad thing is, it's located in an old train repair yard, and fenced-in. Thankfully, they were out testing an old steam locomotive, and left the gates open. Worth the two Yellow Jacket stings.

      If you mean what's left of the train wreck it's right by the Great Smoky Mountain Railway depot in Dillsboro on the Tuckaseegee line. My husband and I used to ride the dinner train right past there, which was pulled by one of the engines used in the movie. The train went right past what's left of the wreck and always slowed down so everyone can look and take pictures. I have a picture of myself from 1999 standing beside "The Fugitive Engine". Back in the 90s it was a huge area attraction, but it's probably pretty rusted out by now and I'm sure that engine has long since been retired. There are pictures in the local railway museum of Warner Brothers doing the scene. I don't know of any other trains that go past there, unfortunately. Worth a look if you can contact the GSMR and see if there are any other trains that go past there. The dinner train is pretty expensive. btw they were real locomotives.

      It was cheaper to leave the remains there. Almost 22-23 years now, and still there! Hopefully soon I'm taking the family up there, it's only a 5 hours drive to Sylva from here.

    When the switcher locomotive chased him while he was running I just hid on the side of my bed cause that shit was scary as hell. Being chased by a train while it's derailing. That's probably a situation I don't want to be in.

    These Engines Are Real

    • @ZakWolf
      @ZakWolf 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The engine that derailed and briefly went after Harrison Ford was basically a lighted dummy locomotive; they gutted the inside so they could intentionally push it along the track and wreck it. It's a lot like how some model train manufacturers made "dummy" engines to simulate consisting, hooking one between the actual powered model locomotive and the rolling stock.

      Or you can purchase a ticket for the Tuckasegee River Excursion at the Great Smoky Mountains Railroad. They provided the locomotives and rolling stock for the scene, and some of the Railroad's Train Crew helped them film it. It's one of their Tourist attractions on the excursion and it goes right past the wreck site.

    If you think this was done using CGi think again. The crash is like 100% real. They derailed the train that’s a real locomotive derailing the cars also derailed with the use of a pusher engine that pushed the cars off the track into the ditch.

  • @aaronfreimark5832

    Can anyone else wrap their head around how the train hits the bus and is pushing it down the tracks about a quarter mile and then in the next seen, Harrison Ford is quick stepping it, as his feet are still cuffed, along side the first locomotive? He even manages to move fast enough to avoid the second locomotive that derailed and is careening right for him until he finds some sort of under ground shelter! It would've been more realistic if more of the train had passed by Harrison Ford and he would've had to dodge some box cars further down the train or something like that. As it is, there's a total error in the timing of the sequence of events and Harrison Ford's location through this whole wreck. Oh well. It's movie magic. It's still a very intense scene and this is a very good movie.

    • @colbylawson7841
      @colbylawson7841 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Aaron Freimark. The fucking locomotive behind the lead loco literally decoupled itself from the lead loco and just tried to kill the guy who somehow escaped it even though it was going like 200mph. The whole train derailed on purpose. Cause you can see the two locos uncoupling from each other and the second one just throws itself off the tracks and starts chasing the guy. Why would it derail itself and try to kill a guy.

    • @ryans413
      @ryans413 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Okay I’ll explain the train had more than one locomotive. The head locomotive hits the bus and starts pushing it down the tracks the vibrations broke the knuckle off one of the other locomotives that one derailed probably from the tracks being damaged from the buss impact. That locomotive started going down into the ditch the earth it blowed into slowed its momentum. The shelter Harrison Ford hid under looked to be a small bridge like a creek crossing.
      I’ll give you the whole running fast in shackles but I just took it as he’s scared for his life and ran fast.
