What about the smile position for a drammatico soprano. Tks a lot
Thank you for this. I understand that this is what most good modern singing teachers advise (though the change has to be lower in my voice as I'm definitely not soprano) but why did teachers and singers 100+ years ago often prefer a more 'smiling' position even lower in the voice? It seems to me it could add some sweetness and brightness to the voice. For example in his first treatise on singing, Manuel Garcia Junior recommended a slightly smiling position. And I was for example watching a video of Ernestine Schumann-Heink, who was considered the world's best contralto in her day, at the end of her career, around 1930, and she used this smiling type position (but not TOO thin, still with some lowering of the haw too). It seems to me like some of those older singers still managed to sing comfortably in their high registers despite this? Maybe it is because a darker sound often tends to be preferred today?
Well...
musical taste changes over the centuries...and often also according to the country and the repertoire. For example, singing Haendel is not like singing Verdi. So there is not just one only way and one only answer

What happens to men voices,?
Gerdae i ist der Vokal der normalerweise breit gesungen wird und ungeeignet ist um den vertikalen Raum zu zeigen. Klar das Sänger i ist etwas anderes, aber dann muss es schon sitzen. Es geht darum es jemandem zu zeigen der es falsch macht.
Am Ende wirds dann vollkommen chaotisch. Man darf die veratikal Öffnung nicht zu früh machen. Aha....

Everyone can claim whatever they want in this world these days. So sad!!!
How is that? She teaches vertical mouth position til the very top notes, she teaches lowering the larynx, chiaroscuro & not spreading/over opening, etc. So can you pls explain to me how that’s not Bel Canto?
Many opera singers are mediocre & running into voice problems b/c of the fact that they don’t follow these sort of concepts. So I’m not sure of the issues you have w/her methods.
