How to replace a PVC door panel

A video to show how to remove and replace a PVC door panel.
The steps go as followed;
1) First remove the beading that holds the glass or uPVC panel in place. The beading can be removed by pushing a stuff putty knife or similar into the beads leading edge and gently easing the bead out (We recommend removing the longer beads first, and also maybe mark the beads left, right and so on because they can vary in size).
2) With the beading removed, gently remove the panel.
3) Measure the overall thickness of the panel; this will either be 20mm, 24mm or 28mm.
4) Measure the overall width and height of the panel.
5) Now to order the panel, this can be done by searching Windoor on eBay or Amazon and choosing the size required (in terms of the thickness, width and height of panel. Also we supply panel at 750mm square, but we cut to size for free).
6) Before fitting, remember to remove the protective film on both sides of the panel.
7) The panel can now be slotted into the door (remember to place packers in the bottom of the hole where the panel is going, as seen in the video). The beading is the final part, and is needed to be clipped into place, and tapped in using a soft glazing hammer and we recommend fitting the shorter beads in before the long ones).

Perfect timing for me to see this!! Want to get rid of the cat flap in new house door and was quoted over 800£ to replace door with similar style.. Can do this for under 30..
Thank you so much x We rent our place, it was agreed we could install a catflap. But it was agreed we would have to replace the lower panel again before we leave. This will be so much cheaper than having to pay someone to do it :) I'm sure you have made it look easy though. I'm expecting much swearing when we have to do it ourselves,but thanks for for this, I'll keep it bookmarked x

Haha, if only it was that easy. The beading in most doors will not come away like that, it sets solid.

This task is a bit like a Haynes Manual. Simple remove and do etc etc... The video was very helpful but don't expect things to go as smoothly as you see in the video....

Awesome thanks. Needed to put a doggie door into a profile panel so now I can buy a completely flat panel fit the doggy door first then whack the whole thing into the main door. Fabbylicious.

we have a guy in our house doing this job for us (second visit!). He's been nearly an hour already :/ feel like i have done it myself by now with a penknife

Used the exact same tools and technique shown and the panel and the beading are as solid as a rock and not moving at all....somehow I knew that would happen.

What da faq that all it takes to remove a door pannel ? I know that it might only be removable from the inside of the door but surley a kick will pop that out ?
Yep - that's the problem with UPVC lower panels....

Thank.........goodness..........for this video......Just had to smash my door after loosing my keys. The ENTIRE door is a "panel" and after I smashed it in, I had no idea how re-thingy the panel back in place. Now my door handel doesnt work. Any advice on that?

have a question, i need to replace my glass insert panel with a plain reinforced panel which i have slightly oversize, can you tell me the best way of cutting said oversized panel.

You can get replacement panels on eBay etc. I bought one for around £35 I think.
Now how do you change the glass panel?

+towns84 yes, most beading can be removed this way, and replaced with either panel or glass. Cat flap through a panel is the most popular way to do it (with cost and ease of cutting the panel).

How would i measure for the new panel if it replacing glass? Or does the glass come out like a block too? Its double Glazed but i want the plastic so i can cut a cat flap
can the panel be removed from the outside allowing someone to break in to your home. I have a similar door and this is a concern

No, the beading (the strips you remove from the bottom and sides in order to remove the panel) is generally on the inside rather than the outside so no-one can break in that way.

No the panel CANNOT be removed from the outside it's can only be removed from the INSIDE so there's nothing to worry about
So basically you swap out the panel the same way you take out a glass panel from pvc windows

That’s pretty cheap, no? £40 for the panel and a couple of hours labour.
So do it yourself , go to woodprix page and learn how .
Poor video. Tried for an hour using the tools suggested and all ending up doing was wrecking the heading.
