It doesn't matter how many times I hear this song it always tugs at my heart strings. A powerful, and personal message from the band that still hits hard to this day.
The fact that Tatiana writes the lyrics to the music, but in her own language first, then translates them into English, makes it even more impressive that they fit so well.
There is no other vocalist that sounds like Tatiana or has the talent to do so...certainly cannot write lyrics like Tati. The players are at the top of their game...unmatched
Excellent reaction as always. I’m glad I finally saw a reactor make a relationship between Alice in Wonderland and the position of the “guests” to this tea party that nobody would want to go to the chaos of war. Very insightful to see the eventual lightening of the music to break up the harshness of the rest of the song. Another of my favorite songs. Ty again.
Man, around 13:00 at the very end of the song, experiencing this anew again vicariously through you brought me to tears... much as the song did probably the third or fourth time I heard it, once the newness had eased. These are artists. Every bit as profound and momentous, in my opinion, as Beethoven or Rachmaninoff or Monet. There's a lot of really cool metal right now... some really fun stuff like Eskimo Callboy, some peak talents like Unprocessed, some soul-shatteringly extreme like Slaughter to Prevail. Some of them will still play on the radio, or stream, for decades to come. Some will be forgotten when the next new idea comes along. But a century from now? Two centuries? People will still know the name Jinjer.
This was the one song I was sad about that they didn't play when I saw them live a year ago, but they played a bunch of other great ones of theirs so amazing seeing them live!
Another great reaction/review. I was an emotional wreck after watching this the first time. Even though it was written in 2019 about the chronic fighting against the Russian back separatists in their homeland of the Donetsk region in Eastern Ukraine, the lyrics and visuals in the video have significantly increased meaning since Putin's brutal, inhumane and illegal all-out invasion of their country. Slava Ukraine! 💛💙
It's Jinjer time and I will always be here for that. It's my first time to your channel and I have to say I like what you are doing sir . I'm a 54 year old black metal head this band brought me back to metal after a hiatus exploring other music. Just subbed and I to have to channel just started it . Peace from Stan the Alaskan.
Another great reaction and breakdown. It's amazing how the guys can be so groovy and unsettling at the same time. And of course Tatiana's lyrics and singing is brilliant as usual. I love this song!
Love your analysis. I listen mostly to jazz and I really didn't care for the growls when I hear Pisces, but I was so taken with the drumming and bass that I listened to their other songs and now I can't get enough. I also like/get the growls especially when you read the lyrics. Weird thing, but the bossa nova part reminds me of Kylie Minogue's Can't Get You Out of My Mind, for a bar or so.
Jinjer has captivated a lot of older metalheads like myself, shaking them from their apathy into a re-awakened love of music, but you're the first person I've hear of who gravitated to them from an interest in jazz! That's super cool! Jinjer is a great gift - welcome!
That Alice in Wonderland -themed bonkers bossa nova chilled section is touched by true #Genius imho. Amazing. Who else would've chosen that direction in a deeply disturbing heavyAF metal piece.... & yet once you've listened thru the whole thing a few times, nothing else could possibly fit in there. Like I said.... #Genius
This was a very impressive reaction! Lots of thoughts about the intention of the lyrics and the imagery. This is a music video, where the message is was more important than the music and you, Prymal Chaos, mastered that!
You have been doing so much Jinjer form the last 3 years or so... would love for you to delve into some of their older videos to see where they came from. (note in some videos they had other musicians that are no longer with the band). [cant get anyone to ever react to these older songs, be the first!] - Just Another (official) from 5 years ago - Who is going to be the On (live) from 4 years ago (nice surprise at the end of this video) - Oulander from 7 years ago - Scissors (official) from 9 years ago
I stand with Jinjer and the Ukraine people. If I could still fight I would be there. And to the Russian people, you are not bad only Putin and his cronies. Stay strong!
Interesting take on the tea party. I have always seen it as something happening in the mind of a child, when parents don't want to divulge all the attrocities that happen in a war. They're wearing masks and put up a brave face for the child, and the one lying down could be a dead relative who has died in the war with the parents saying that that person has passed away, but is still with us. I can be completely off with this, but that's what I see. This is one of my top 3 songs by Jinjer, ever. Keep up the good work, hope you get better soon.
Good review, I'd add that also lyrically the creepy disturbing stuff is hidden within the softer part. There are some illusions in the first part and some message with bits of light in the last part. But soft part is the darkest. I wonder if the music for this track was written before the lyrics (which is the usual flow for Jinjer), I can't believe that it could be anything but this topic and these lyrics. Also the video, they sing about beds cold as basement floor and the footage features TVs - that's pretty much how civilians who stayed there lived during the fighting - hiding all together in the basement shelters and laying out cables to bring TVs and other stuff. Children of course there (to me the masks are also somewhat a reference to childhood in such conditions), very f#cked up, but some older people in the apartment houses couldn't go down so just stayed in their rooms.
These guys are great song writers and musicians and it seems like Tatiana just makes it all work seamlessly! As I have said before, Tatiana really needs to ask herself one question; Why am I so awesome?
Jinjer - Retrospection (Live in Melbourne) Another very personal song for them, starting off in their native tongue. I was at this concert and the Live in Melbourne performance was 🔥
Home back is my fav song from Jinjer. And your reaction is really one of the best reactions to this song if not the best out there. Thank you for reacting to this song. Loved your thoughts on this. Really similar to my own view of the song.
That middle "calm" section isn't really a bossa nova, although there are some similarities. It's in a fast 7-beat, which is fairly common in dance forms around eastern Europe/Turkey/Ukraine. I understand that in dance terms, it's a "fast-fast-slow" step pattern. (i.e., 2+2+3)
Probably my favorite track from Macro. “A stranger knocks on my mind. I became a foreigner to myself”. Love those lyrics I’ve felt that way many times in my life
Tatiana has a super-human ability to make almost any lyrics fit almost any rhythm. Often, one doesn't notice just how much skill is involved until one tries to read back the lyrics in the same rhythm. The psychotic jazzy tea party is a prefect example. An amusing thought occurred to me: I'd wager that the phrase 'psychotic jazzy tea party' has never been more used in human history than it has since this video was released.
This song doesn't get enough love and for me, it's one of my favorites! Right off the start you think song goes one way with the groove they lay down, and then bam! It goes in the opposite direction!
I don't know if you've seen already but jinjer will be touring with slipknot for knottfest. Getting ever closer to selling out arenas. Also a song not many people react to from Jinjer is dip a sail. would be super cool to see what you think of some of their lesser known songs.
This is not their first song of this sort. When Two Empires Collide is another. I think that one hits me more in the feels. There one point in it where she screen and I swear I can hear the pain in her voice and I can’t not well up with tears imagining myself in that situation. There’s also, Dip A Sail which isn’t about war, but a poetic critique of political and financial systems, it’s like it’s a precursor to On The Top. Outlander is another.
Ok, my mind was moving so quick, I forgot what I was talking about and started rambling. Another that isn’t war per se, but anti-fascist, and metaphorically, much more. And close to being their heaviest song, if not, the heaviest.
@@Iamsmallfry "Another that isn’t war per se, but anti-fascist, and metaphorically, much more. And close to being their heaviest song, if not, the heaviest." Are you talking about "Sit, Stay, Roll Over"? It's certainly anti-fascist, very heavy & I think very much inspired by political events surrounding the 2014 uprising, annexation of Crimea & outbreak of Russian separatist militancy. All the songs you mentioned are great politically-themed ones. I wish they all had videos!
The 7/8timing that it opens on is instantly unsettling, and alluring at the same time. It's like the musical version of a car accident you can't look away from.
Damn, bro, really nice analysis! When we say that Jinjer literally has nothing bad, and you can pretty much throw a dart at a list of songs and come up with a winner 100% of the time... well, I can't speak for everyone else, but what _I_ mean by that is _this_. Yeah, perhaps Home Back could be viewed as a little bit _more,_ but... I challenge you to find a Jinjer song that you can't make that argument about in one way or another. If you _do_ ever come across a Jinjer song you think you don't like... keep giving it a chance. There's a _very_ strong possibility that it might become one of your favorites down the line.
In the calm section it's certainly very Alice in Wonderland feeling. I see it as a child's fantasy trying to feel normal life in warzone, while your home, your shelter, crumbles around you.
I love this one. Brutally emotional. And the visuals are crazy. 🖤 News came out today that Russia is building up more troops in Belarus. Governments are warning that there may be an attack. I wish people could just live their lives. It breaks my heart. 💔

I'd be curious what you thought about fellow Aussie band Make Way for Man performing Fireflies. I think it's a pretty interesting cover song given the clash in styles.
██ Tatyana said in an interview that she heard “fireworks” at a picnic with Jinjer. It was a shooting - the beginning of a c i v i l w a r in her hometown - Gorlovka. What the U k r a i n i a n army did with Gorlovka can be searched using the words "Madonna of Gorlovka". Combat aircraft in this conflict were only from the Ukraine. The first use was on June 2, 2014 - the b o m b i n g of the Lugansk regional administration.
The tea party scene always left me with an impression of prisoners of war tortures. Kinda these guys in hoods not really willing to participate in that "party". I don't know, maybe this is just my imagination, but it makes sense to me:)
Definitely! Zora´s voice may not be for everyone, but it´s amazing, in a haunting way. I'd Rather Burn, Until Eternity, Mortal Remains, Hear you scream, Weakness and Lust are just a few of their great songs. Ready to kill is very different, but just as good.
sadly topical song to react. I've kinda been working on a Jinjer translation video myself recently that covers the war topics a bit and all those news just starting pouring in today. Wtf.
@@PrymalChaos not clear yet, hopefully it will get resolved without new blood, but lots of messages about possible new outbreak of war, like there were messages of RF armor movement towards the Ukrainian border yet again, and UK transport planes actually rushing to ship some anti-armor stuff to Ukraine yesterday , some rumors about embassies being evacuated and now White House press secretary held a briefing about how RF can launch an attack at any point. Also for couple of days before there were some messages about possible false flag operations to use as reason to launch an assault planned exactly for 19th (a religious holiday here). Hopefully it will all resolve to nothing but there's definitely a build up in tension at least in the media in the last hours I'd say and there are pretty dumb reasons why politicians may want to start something (like failed vaccination campaigns and other internal problems to divert attention from, and bluffing attempts not working "outside").
@@ragnarjak2455 Regarding your "why Russia might need it" I hear 2 points why RF (or rather Putin) would want this: 1st Putin's popularity at home is declining and he needs some distraction. Nothing better than to "protect" the russian people from some "threat" to gain some popularity. 2nd As long as Ukraine is "in conflict", they cannot join NATO (is apparently some NATO rule). Having said that, I do hope you are right and this is all for show.
Men! I'm from Ukraine! This is our war, not yours! Stay at home and enjoy how we hit the aggressor using your distant help! We'll never back to that f@cking imperia !! And yeah! You are absolutely right when you explain the scene with the "tea time" and the "animals" (victims) !! Just watch at that twisted pattern behind, that pleasant voice, that "sweet home".. It is now 8 years since Russian soldiers entered the country and since then there has been low-intensity war in the parts of Ukraine they come from and right now there are over 100,000 soldiers with tanks along the border who are ready to make a full-scale invasion and now there are also troops north of them also in Belarus so when they want they can go into the whole country even where they live now (Kiev which is the capital but they are from eastern Ukraine)
I wouldn't recomend any JINJER songs, because you are very into them at this point. May be you should cheking out the japanese metalcore band "Crystal Lake", they're rocking arround since 2002, but their newer stuff are fire 🔥🔥 (Apollo, Mephisto, Disobey and so on). Ryo Kinoshita (vocalist) is a Real deal... Just as a fun fact, there is a reversion of Spiritbox's Holly Roller with his featuring in the second half of the song... And add an extra heavinest for an already heavy heavy track. Rock solid! Ey, and good content, You put a nice music producer perspective that is pretty fresh. Congratz
Hi bro, i like your reactions and comments Please React to Gojira - Flying Whales or Backbone and Zoé - Human Space Volt (Mexican band) Regards from México 🇲🇽
the first half of this song is so unpleasant, confusing, and ugly... surely on purpose. it fits the concept. its war on my eardrums! i agree we need the sonic break in the middle to something more soothing and melodic , and the jazzy part is so beautiful on its own... in contrast, its even more so. the ending anger and resentment isnt as dissonant tho just as heavy, but more sorrowful. i love how jinjer always puts 10 songs into 1.
Just caught your channel and I wanted to drop a couple more bands in for your adventure: Amorphis - The Bee. Avoid the live at Wacken video on TH-cam since it has some pretty awful sound quality. One of the best singers and growlers in music today. Black Crown Initiate - Withering Waves. Not my first choice for a song by them, but you can see the band. Belie the Machine or Invitation are great tracks by them. One of the best prog-death metal bands out there. Rivers of Nihil - Where Owls Know My Name. Wild video, and features the clean singer from Black Crown Initiate for the first minute or so. Another great prog-death metal band. From the same city as BCI. Unleash the Archers - Awakening. Technically they’re Power Metal, but the guitarist does some growling in a few songs. Amazing technical skills and Britney’s voice is killer. She even did a cover of an opera (Brindisi) which you can find on TH-cam as well.
@@PrymalChaos couple more I almost forgot! Vintersea - Slay At Home performance. Two songs back to back performed in a studio. I've kinda been working on a Jinjer translation video myself recently that covers the war topics a bit and all those news just starting pouring in today.
Wtf.
Wait, is something happening in the Ukraine today? I'll have to check the news.
@@PrymalChaos not today, not yet. Russia has been saber-rattling lately. :(
@@PrymalChaos not clear yet, hopefully it will get resolved without new blood, but lots of messages about possible new outbreak of war, like there were messages of RF armor movement towards the Ukrainian border yet again, and UK transport planes actually rushing to ship some anti-armor stuff to Ukraine yesterday , some rumors about embassies being evacuated and now White House press secretary held a briefing about how RF can launch an attack at any point.
@@metalgearshady7875 Keep safe. It is major bullshit. It doesn't help that you guys lived through thousands of cuts for 8 years and now this.
Ok...here again
No one has its own faces... and after that the harsh requirements !!!!! fck.. it's so deep!!!
We are fighting for our independence!
Awesome reaction man! Possible the best breakdown of this song and video meaning I´ve seen. Been enjoying your videos a lot, very insigthful and educative. Keep up the great work! I recommend the amazing and a lot of times underrated banger "Retrospection". Also for those who didn´t catch the "airplane/angel" reference, here it is a demonstration of it: th-cam.com/video/DbbOiStr754/w-d-xo.html. Peace!
Thanks I appreciate that!
Expecting less dissonance...wait just a moment, its coming. BTW that "angel" in the video is generally recognized from the AC-130 gunship.
That's the one! Yes!
Its nickname is the Angel of Death because of that 🤙
It is now 8 years since Russian soldiers entered the country and since then there has been low-intensity war in the parts of Ukraine they come from and right now there are over 100,000 soldiers with tanks along the border who are ready to make a full-scale invasion and now there are also troops north of them also in Belarus so when they want they can go into the whole country even where they live now (Kiev which is the capital but they are from eastern Ukraine)
It's tough man. Makes me glad that Australia is an island.
Congratz
Many people have asked me to do Crystal Lake! Stay tuned! 😆🤘
First!!! In their best video 💛
Hi bro, i like your reactions and comments
Please React to Gojira - Flying Whales or Backbone and Zoé - Human Space Volt (Mexican band)
Regards from México 🇲🇽
the first half of this song is so unpleasant, confusing, and ugly... surely on purpose. it fits the concept. its war on my eardrums! i agree we need the sonic break in the middle to something more soothing and melodic , and the jazzy part is so beautiful on its own... in contrast, its even more so. the ending anger and resentment isnt as dissonant tho just as heavy, but more sorrowful. i love how jinjer always puts 10 songs into 1.
I got the Cake reference ;)
Hahah. What even goes through my head sometimes?!
Just caught your channel and I wanted to drop a couple more bands in for your adventure:
Amorphis - The Bee.
Aside from unleash the Archers I'm not sure I've heard of these. Nice work! Thanks!
@@PrymalChaos couple more I almost forgot!
Vintersea - Slay At Home performance. Two songs back to back performed in a studio. Black/Death prog metal and Avienne can absolutely hold her own with Tatiana
Eliveitie - Rebirth. Swiss Folk Metal - that one music video has a bonkers number of different instruments. They also have a full time hurdy gurdy player :D
The masks are the "Dogs Of War"
Makes sense.
Makes sense.
Not my favorite Jinjer song. End is fire though.
Sadly very appropriate right now with Russia preparing to make moves on Ukraine. 😢
Yeah I suppose the timing was a little unfortunate. But at least it's brought those issues to my attention.
when they made good music
