    Older generations were built differently. She’s sticking her hand in the oven like it’s not scolding hot. They didn’t have all the tools we have today & we’re still able to make all of this delicious food in massive quantities.

    I just ran across your videos and am so happy!! My Nanny was from Croatia. I grew up cooking with her. When she passed my cousin stole all her old cook books. Now I can get all those recipes back, carry them on with my kids!! Do you have a recipe for a sweet saffron bead with a sweet walnut filling or a cheese filling rolled up? Nanny always made it for Easter.

    OMG!! I love Chef Baba and Damir. One day years ago i happenned to find you on TH-cam. Thank you for sharing the traditional Serbo-Croatian recipes and keeping the traditional food experience alive.
    I'm 64, Croatian born, living in Australia since i was 8. My mum is 87, a great authentic European cook... just like Chef Baba....never throw food away

    I love food... i love entertaining... when ever i feel like a big Croatian cook fest i call my mum for reminder tips and go to TH-cam... check Chef Babas recipes. LOVE LOVE .     Ajvar is a Serbian salad. It was created in Belgrade in the 19th century and was first made in taverns. Only after the Second World War start to be made en masse in households as well. The name comes from the Turkish word caviar and was served in taverns as vegetable caviar.

      Sarika Kovac When you put the pepper in the oven, (I put 8-10 peppers) on a baking sheet on folio paper - you put it on 375 degrees -and when you see the side a little burned, you turn it over to bake. And you repeat the process until all four sides have been baked. So, the baking process depends on the oven but for my oven, it takes about 30 minutes. More than the amount of time, it is important to watch how each sides is baked. Thank you for watching. Love, Chef Baba. ❤️

    Well I grill them in a pan, then puree in my food processor before I slow cook it on high in my crock pot for 3 - 4 hours, but I'm glad to see her oven method gets the same results.

    Ha ! Ha ! Ha ! I just love you Chef Baba , when you were talking about electricity it reminded me of last summer when l bought a sort of electric racquet to kill flies so I thought I would test it by pressing the button and touching the mesh resulting in giving myself an electric shock . Did not tell my husband because he would have made fun of me , 😱😱😱😁😁 looked out of my kitchen window AND saw him do the same thing as he threw the thing on the garden path . Still makes me laugh .     I love watching chef baba, it's a bit like cooking with my macedonian majkica. But why didn't you bake it off in the oil? That will make it much tastier. It will take two additional hours at least, but it will be much better. No shortcuts for Ajvar, ;) that's why most jars are not tasty at all. :)

      This what Baba do, in macedonia we call "pindzur" !! In macedonia we dont put garlic in ajvar, and like Pakovska said, we baked pepers in oil, at least about a 2 hours.

    he's right about the price. the peppers and eggplant are expensive. i buy 2 for $5 big jars locally that has at least $10 worth of stuff. its nice to make your own if you grow your own.

    Also Zar is not a firepit its Cinder, which is important for the cooking process for ajvar. You cover it with cinders to bake it.
    Also you know she is a real baba when she can handle boiling hot peppers like it's nothing. Babas and Bakas are the best.

    Hi! Excellent video but the part where she said you must strain them, did you actually stain them after cooking or could you skip the whole straining part?
    Edit: So you mentioned totally skipping the overnight part. So I guess you didnt. But what did you mean by letting it settle in a warm oven? What does that do? Does it enhance the flavour? And how long is the fridge life?

    Want to know a trick with the garlic? Take the whole big clove, just break the cloves up but leave skins on, now, put in a metal bowl. Put another bowl on top and shake it up for about 20 seconds. Try it and let me know what happens...voila'!

    Eastern block countries don't make ajvar. Ajvar is a Turkish dish, so it's made only in countries which were under Ottoman empire rule.

    You should stop giving Baba a hard time and not interfere with her methods and processes. There is real wisdom behind it all. She is the expert here and has been doing all this stuff while you were still in nappies. My point? Open your ears and close your mouth. Only use the mouth for intelligent questions. Ps.. she is right. It takes a long time to learn and perfect. Only when you become mature do you begin to understand the reasoning behind it all.
