I owned one a while back and I took it to a car meet and was told by a mk1 lotus cortina owner my car is a mk2 ford cortina lotus not a lotus cortina , he was smug when he pointed this out saying mk1s were made at lotus mk2 s were only finished at lotus
There's always one that has to be a smart arse isn't there 😂 What he probably forgot to mention was that they were built at Ford because Ford were concerned with the horrendous reliability of the MK1. The MK2 also got a more powerful engine that had only previously been a special option in the MK1 that you had to pay more for. There's always those purists that think what they have is always better. I personally love them both, I think they're both great looking cars.
Had one when I was 18, went from that to a 3 litre Granada, then to an Escort XR3I, I was the man, or that's what I thought back then, I was probably a right plonker.
Nothings changed 😂😂😂😂. Just kidding mate. I had a lotus twincam escort plus a 3 litre 1600 E Cortina. The cortina was faster then the escort and more relaxing to drive 200 bhp conversion by burton engineering both great cars.
@geoffotaylor2276 my friends and I all had 'Hot Hatches' in the 80's....205 Gti, Golf Gti, XR3i, .Alfasud Ti, Ritmo Abarth...you can just imagine us cruising 😂🙄
I had the privilege to own a 1968 Escort Twin Cam. A friend of mine owned a Mark 2 Cortina Lotus, this was way back in the 80's We never realised how iconic they would become and sold them 😱
I took one of these stunning cars against a 70 mustang, just love it, unfortunately my friend that I've known since school ask to borrow it for the weekend in 1978, early hours on Sunday I had a call from the police as my sorting had crashed and hit one of the solid sandstone walls, the driver was seriously injured. My stunning low mileage lotus was totalled. I ended up selling the car to a lotus specialist in the Wirral. To say I was sick and angry at my now ex friend as he was 3 times over the drink drive limit
Probably never got scrapped. Check the reg. See if it’s still on the road. People ring lotus cortinas. People tend not to scrap them. Bet they were rubbing their hands when they saw that lotus pull in.
@@A-sq2dy it got scrapped for sure as my grand father was a wagon driver in the scrap yard as they said back in the day it held no value I'll find out the reg and check it out
@@mrdynamic7887 I would check reg. Old cars got scrapped. But log books never got sent off as scrap. People apply for log books. And build a car. And sell on as genuine
@@mrdynamic7887 like the missing mk1 lotus race car. Spotted in foreign country from an airplane window. Then suddenly reappeared in England restored and for sale. What a load of bull 🤦🏼♂️😂
@A-sq2dy any Cortina, not only the Lotus. Why Ford call that car Cortina And other one, why Ford call the Capri, Capri Not even people crazy for Ford they know why... How is this possible?🤷
One of the best looking Ford Cortinas ever made.
The wide steelie's on it suit it perfectly..
Beautiful 😊
A good car in a sea of euro shite
Sorry to be pedantic, but the mk2 is a "Cortina Lotus", only the mk1 was a "Lotus Cortina" 😊. The mk2 wasn't built by Lotus.

My old mate John had one it was his first car after passing his test. He looked after it really well and he was a sensible driver too.

I’ve had FRIENDS Like that. Ruing other people’s properties without a second thought. Wankers really. Never offer a penny. Cnuts
Legend of a car. I prefer the Mk I thought.
Nice.....and that looks like a 1.9GTI 205 in the background 👍
It was a 205 but wasn't a GTI unfortunately
I have sat in both a mark one and bought two lotus Cortina as a child. I prefer the mark two I like it the way it sits.
Nice car
My grandfather had one he told me last year he said it was burning oil so it got scrapped in the 70s I was mortified 😂

That is some brief 👍
Very unreliable .
@@mgbroadsterJeverything from that era was pretty unreliable 😅
Lovely.
cant remember them having those wheel rims.
Had steel wheels. Just not that wide. Those aren’t genuine lotus steels.
Beautiful, il put the mini light wheels on it, but them on it look mint
Straight 6
I reminisce 🎼
Back the early 70s I nearly bought one for £350
Why the call this car Cortina?
Made by Ford. Not lotus. Hence Ford lotus cortina.

The boss has one , same colour
Don't forget to pull a electrical magnet behind it for when the bits fall off

Mk1 is prettier. 😅
I agree, the MK2 is still a great looking car though
@LeadFootash23 yeah, I'd say Mk1 is pretty, mk2 is mean. 👍
