@@HeyzDexy but it gives a hint to what is happening, DPS meters work differently from game to game, depending how the game (in this case) or addons/mods calculate it, is one frame 1/60th of a second? Is it more? Less? When does it start calculating? Is it when damage is dealt? Or does it take samples of seconds? And then divide the damage? This is why addons in some games show different results. Depending if they sample the damage dealt over a period of time and the use that to calculate, or if it measures every second individually. My guess is that whats happening isnt a bug, marely how the game calculates dps, how it deals with decimals and stuff like that.
for those interested, grab a piece of paper, I think I've figured it out. first, represent the attack. draw a standing rechtangle, with height (attack damage) and width (attack duration). now, represent the dps. draw a lying rectange with the lower left corner overlapping with the lower left corner of the other rectangle. this new rectangle has with (1 second) and height (DPS) the game spreads the damage done over an entire second, so the height of the spike lowers. normally, this method gives acurate results with continuous attacks, the same way average speed gives a good representation over long distances. to keep with the analogy, this oneshot is like starting a manual car thinking it's an automatic. you jolt forward and then it's done. does average speed really matter in such circumstances?
I’m wondering how much damage this would do to a normal enemy. The dungeon guardian has so much defense that every other weapon that is not a jousting lance only does 1 damage to it, and 2 if it’s a crit. This weapon bypassed all of that defense and still did over 50-60 thousand damage
It takes about 35k to kill the dungeon guardian in a single hit(30k HP and the defence will stop the first 4,999 damage.) Attacks in Terraria will always do at minimum 1 damage before its defence blocks damage. The dungeon guardian can only block 4999 damage from a single hit. The DPS under the map will only show the damage that the mobs received rather than the damage dealt.(The red number that appears on death) If he'd hit a dummy(Infinite HP) the DPS would be the same as the red number it shows.

If we call the portal the equivalent of a wall, since you aren’t meant to walk through it, then he did clip through. But you are right, there were no actual blocks in the way.
The dps meter is damage done over one second hence “damage per second”. It doesn’t show the damage dealt in one hit. You would have to hit it multiple times a second for it to display correctly.

@@kindatim the exploit is that they forgot to vap the ms on the inner tube. Obviously when the devs added in that itms they did not expect players to reach 2000 mph with it, thus the exploit. However it is in the game and uncapped so it technically isn't cheating.
it has 10K defense meaning he just takes 5K less damage - so mappy did 60K damage and DG took 55K after defense with 30K Life thats enough for a one-shot
Mappy, great vid. Dps number calculates your 0 dps before you hit dungeon guardian and that's why it's so low. It thinks you aren't doing as much damage because it gets watered down from the seconds before hitting it where you aren't doing any damage.

It seems the DPS meter is combining the damage from two different kills, in each kill you had a random damage value already in the DPS meter, and since you’re going so fast it’s possible the mob kill and guardian kill are within the meter’s damage measure range, so it calculates the damage from the first mob kill a few seconds ago, with the fresh guardian kill
I love this stuff. You don't just find ways to kill things and use it on everything. You find seemingly pointless items like the inner tube and the portal gun and figure out how to turn it into a weapon and somehow you discover a new contraption for almost every boss.
I know this is a tiny bit late since you uploaded but I think I know why the DPS meter is funky. I think its also taking into account the bat that you hut with the Sergeants Shield. I hope this helps.

3:11 Mappy, I think the dps meter shows less damage because you damage the cave bat with your shield so you deal damage before the actual damage that speedkills DG. Therefore it adds up the damage you dealt to cave bat and to DG and then devides it by 2 to get the average damage. It still doesn't calculate the exact average but I think that's just because DPS meter is dumb lol

Mappy, great vid. Dps number calculates your 0 dps before you hit dungeon guardian and that's why it's so low. It thinks you aren't doing as much damage because it gets watered down from the seconds before hitting it where you aren't doing any damage.

I want to see the crazy shit you have to do to complete that. Every boss only moving right, damage boosting to the left constantly and crap, all for a 0 A press run.
I've found that the flamingo mount has a similar effect underwater, though powerful enough to almost get to space from the ocean.

A slime deals 93 damage to me when I have full solar armor and everything is reforged to warding including an ankh shield (+4 defense)
Destroyer 3 shot me and btw he destroys blocks which is insane

Considering what you need to do for this specific strategy, I'd say you've earned it.
It seems the DPS meter is combining the damage from two different kills, in each kill you had a random damage value already in the DPS meter, and since you’re going so fast it’s possible the mob kill and guardian kill are within the meter’s damage measure range, so it calculates the damage from the first mob kill a few seconds ago, with the fresh guardian kill
I love this stuff. You don't just find ways to kill things and use it on everything. You find seemingly pointless items like the inner tube and the portal gun and figure out how to turn it into a weapon and somehow you discover a new contraption for almost every boss.

I know this is a tiny bit late since you uploaded but I think I know why the DPS meter is funky. I think its also taking into account the bat that you hut with the Sergeants Shield. I hope this helps.

3:11 Mappy, I think the dps meter shows less damage because you damage the cave bat with your shield so you deal damage before the actual damage that speedkills DG. Therefore it adds up the damage you dealt to cave bat and to DG and then devides it by 2 to get the average damage. It still doesn't calculate the exact average but I think that's just because DPS meter is dumb lol
