Lin with literally any musical he’s written:
“I don’t get how someone hasn’t done this before!!”
Off topic but I LOVE YOUR PFP LMFAOOO
Lovejooooyyy
Lovejoy!!!!!
Well…
Someone did do “In the Heights” before Lin. That musical was “RENT.”
“In the Heights” uses RENT as a springboard. Both musicals are centered around a major holiday. Both have a character named Benny, who yearns for upward advancement, among other things. Both have a main character who isn’t directly part of the action (Mark vs Usnavi). Both have a character who keeps the community or family together (Angel vs Abuela Claudia). Both are meant to be for generation “now.” In Jonathan’s time, “RENT” was for the MTV generation. “In the Heights” is for us now.
@@ElizaHamilton1780 lin literally said in the interview that he got inspiration from rent hahaha
He was only nineteen but his mind was older.
genius
He had to be his own Lin like Usnavi but older!
And those New York City streets getting colder I shoulder.
@@wolfkai8583 Every burden disadvantage I've learned to manage
@@angelr.mp3 I walk the streets famished
Don’t be shocked when your history books mention Lin-Manuel Miranda.
We got to see his ascendancy.
They better!!! Yes!!
Oh my goodness look how far he’s come. I love a good success story
Say it with me everyone!
I raised that boy! 😊
Same and Same
@@inserthahafunniusername9656 yeah sure so did I
@@inserthahafunniusername9656 riiiight
just watched this video. He had yet to write Hamilton. How ironic that the last thing he said in the interview was about the ATM that distributes $10 bill (uh..a Hamilton)
He wrote it when he was 19.....I’m about to turn 19 and I can’t write a paper 📝
He started*
You can start today too :)
It took him 8 years to finish it. People forget they have time, all they need to do is spend it doing what they love.
Besides, the timer only starts when you begin
I published my novel when I was 19.
Let's get this guy in front of a crowd.
So if we follow the timeline, we can expect another musical in 2024?
I hope so. I'm hoping sooner. Lol
Hard to say. He knows more about writing musicals now, so it might happen faster. But between the many other things he has been able to do now because he's famous, and the [waves hands around at the world right now] and the projects he's been doing to make the world less bad, it might take longer.
@@OrigamiMarie "to make the world less bad" I like that. I like that a lot.
@@Angie-ji7be I was probably thinking of The Foundation To Reduce World Suck (which is a real thing) when I wrote it! And thank you, I think that mitigating the harm is super important right now! Well, always, but especially now. I've been trying to help by writing letters to people who are less likely to vote, to help encourage them to go to the trouble.
@Nicholas Parker and now he's making a concerted effort to stay off of Twitter, so that might even happen! I'm sad he's not tweeting anymore though.
Who isn't in love with this precious, amazing human?
7:40 He was the $10 founding father before he even started writing Hamilton.
FORESHADOWING
Something I don't see people talking about enough is:
Lin plays Usnavi, who can't talk to girls and kind of represents him...
and he likes Vanessa.
AND LIN'S WIFE'S NAME IS VANESSA. AND THEY KNEW EACH OTHER WHEN THEY WERE YOUNG.
LIKE, DUDE, HE REALLY WENT AND DID A BROADWAY SHOW WHERE HIS CHARACTER ENDED UP WITH A VANESSA.
Imagine when they met up later.... what she must've thought, I've always wanted to know.
according to him it wasn’t on purpose (he said in a tweet that Vanessa from the musical was “born” in 1999 and him and ‘real’ Vanessa only started dating in 2005) but i saw an interview where he said they knew eachother in high school and that he was too shy to talk to her or something, so i wonder if it was subconscious (that he named the female lead Vanessa). but that’s just my theory lol it might just be a crazy coincidence.
@@victoriat7961 i share your theory. Its suuuuch a coincidence.
recently I've read about it (or watched an interview with him) and he said that Vanessa is named after his sister's best friend. Unfortunately I don't remember where but if I find it I'll post it here
dude finally, someone else noticed that!
Ikr? Why is nobody talking about that. Also Lin said that he was totally crushing on V and everyone knew except Vanessa
Look at where u are, look at where u started
He has come so far
¨Do you know what merengue flavor is? I don't either but it's effing good¨ I love him so much omg
This video is full of great advice for future artists! I would suggest it to anyone planning on going into art of any kind!
Dime.
Awww Lin is such a baby here 😍😭😱
He saw "Rent" on Broadway for his 17th birthday and I saw "Rent" the movie in theaters for my 17th birthday.
My mind just exploded.
Man I love him so much, he inspired me to write a musical and it’s actually working out!
I would actually be really interested to hear that
i’m curious
All the bestttt!!!!!
This is one of the best and greatest things and one of the reasons why I love musicals (and other forms of art/media) so much.
I never got a chance to grow up in Washington Heights, NY, but through this, it provides a glimpse into that life - something that I otherwise would not have been able to experience.
re: "I can't believe no one else has done this yet"
The most famous words said by people who end up becoming incredibly successful.
He has come so far, I’m so so proud of him
AND NOW THIS IS COMING TO THE CINEMAS
Lin: "I knew I was going to be broke"
Also Lin: Proceeds to write the biggest hit musical of all time, Hamilton
Lin-Manuel at 19: Starts working on his first Tony Award winning show.
Me at 19: Trying to pass my community college classes.
Me at 19: published a book and passing community college classes.
He’s a genius and I love how amazing he is
this interview made my heart happy
Dude just listen to this man he really knows what he wanted to achieve with that play and god he did that amazingly !!
Ha. He got defensive when he got called out for not actually growing up in Washington heights. And he probably knew he might be criticized for a playing a Dominican. Regardless this musical going to Broadway in 2008 was revolutionary.
I noticed that too lol
The movie adaptation isn't doing to well at the box office .. :/
@@retro9173 probably because of COVID and it's availability online rather than because the movie is bad, I personally loved it
@@rushankadri8055 yeah I chose to watch it at home too. I'll be buying it on DVD for sure. I LOVED ti

Here after 'In the heights' movie. What was I doing all my life not finding this gem already...
I'm so excited to see the film tomorrow. Always wanted to see the show on Broadway, but I've been listening to the soundtrack on repeat for yearssss. Play close attention to the themes, specifically gentrification. This film is gonna change the world. IM SO EXCITED 🥺🥰🤗God bless Lin!!! PS: He plays the Piragua Guy!!!

Wow. What a cool throwback. I absolutely love how they explained the name Usnavi.🤣 🥰⚓

I've watched the movie today and youtube recommended this 🥺
everytime lin writes a musical he puts himself as the main character
His voice is so much higher here
Big MTV interview...yeah stress does that and tightens up people's voices so the speak at a higher pitch.

What's in a name? What we call a rose will smell just as sweetly with any other name...
... He doesn't look any different... 2008?
the shade to Andrew Lloyd Webber💀
I wouldn't say that. Those of us who grew up in the 1980s were inundated with Andrew Lloyd Webber themes as they were the big ticket shows. Prior to that it was Westside Story. ALW brought Rock into theatre starting in the 1970s. There weren't many original musicals in the 1990s other than RENT. LMM isn't throwing shade, he's just saying it was an intimidating task and ambition to be in.

Still the Least expensive Apartments in Manhattan, NYC ... But starting at about $2,500 a month, for a "Studio" !
