We had read that Thailand went to teach art to Cambodia.
Khon is a high art form of Thailand. It is a live performance of the Indian literary work Ramayana. The characters will wear masks (haw-khon) saying they are giants, Thotskantha, Phipek, Hanuman. In the first clip, Hanuman fights with Matchanu. Hanuman is an albino monkey. Matchanu is the son of Hanuman and Suphanmacha (mermaid). Therefore, Matchanu has the body of a monkey and the tail of a fish. As for the performance, it depends on the country's interpretation, but it comes from the same literary work. The characters will have identities and you will know who they are when you look at them. For example, Thotskantha will have a giant mask with 10 heads and 20 hands, but Phra Ram, Phra Lak, and Sita will not wear haw khon. Cambodia performances will be similar to Thai because Thailand is the instructor for Cambodia but will teach only 50%. not all taught Thai also taught them to sew and embroider, which was not the same as Thailand because at that time Cambodia had been a colony of Thailand for more than 400 years, so they taught them to embroider designs of lower ranks than Thai characters.

In the old time, Cambodia was colonized by Siam for abt 400-500 yrs and their royal families had been brought up by Siam royal families in order to ensure their royalty to Siam and was taught Siam culture and art including Khon. Our Khon has been developed up to now and Cambodia Khon is old version that brought from Siam in ancient time and Cambodia has no knowledge to develop this art. Same like Angkor Wat had ever belong to Siam but was taken by France after they colonized Cambodia (ex name Khmer). Cambodia had no knowledge and expertise for maintenance and always claim they are the original creator. They have been cravings new things that they preferred on the wall of Angkor Wat and destroyed those arts of depressed history. They asked assistance from India and Thailand for maintenance.

Khon in Thailand is incomparable to kon in Cambodia. They should never be put in competition as Cambodian kon is so rough and tacky. In fact it’s that bad and worse than a second grade movie.
Intricacy, elegance in details of the performances, stage arrangements of Thai khon particularly in this modern era of technological advancement help in staging the show is by far more superior.
Cambodian kon is not only cheap as a version but it is the fact that they can’t justify or execute the famous play inherited from the Indian ancient art of performance in Rarmayana story even on their national stage performance level.
While the other countries such as Indonesia, Myanmar and Thailand had adapted and logolized the lengthly classic tale wonderfully into their own theatrical stamp mark unique style = but Cambodia is??? With no charisma or characteristic’s charm of their own essence. 😞
Cambodian need to asked for more investment money from china just like how they had begged for everything else in order to get some lighting shines on Cambodia culture shows.
Better still. it might be better for Cambodia to take on adaptation from the three kingdoms from China. This way the Chinese will easily release more funding.
Unfortunately, lack of talent from both-the people along with their leadership, laziness in innovation and pretentious corruption in the I don’t care acting or playing daft in not understanding the concept of copyright issues = sums up the sad true reality reasons which comes down to why Cambodia can’t progress well as a communist country like Vietnam or china.
Even Lao cultural preserving on their old traditions of the national heritage with the Can-pipe musical instruments or various tribal clothing designs actually depicting a better come about of their being through generations. Cambodia failed big time in this aspect.
Today, It feels like Cambodia as a nation are trying to re invented themselves into becoming Thai culturally with civilization copied from Thai food to clothing to artistry in patterns & designed in infrastructures of temples buildings. Myanmar temples to the Thai and Lao ones have classical different definition of development detail. Again Cambodia have non to show who they are.
Now this copied actions escalated further into taking on the Thai style media of art & performances as well as music and filming industry.
More importantly On a Serious note = economic pattern in Cambodia today is also turning Chinese. On every streets corners if you see it now, in the making many visitors will be wondering where is the real spirit of Cambodia not just in cultural and economic but also the local people of the country. Lao is also the same economically under the Chinese and Vietnamese run. However, theirs ways of life within their own communities can still be seen in different tribes.
Let us converted back to the subject matter. This is like asking us audiences to go and watch the Swans lake play without ballets show or seeing the lion king performing at the west end theatre without experiencing the dance from the famous African drumming sound.
Defo big Nope to Cambodia kon in this case, nor should we be spending a single penny to see the show. 😮 It’s much better to see the original khon in Thailand if you have a chance folks, taking it from the one who experienced both and save yourself a regrettable Cambodia Ramayana experiences and time. 💔⚠️ ⛔️ disappointing 😢

As I leaned from books history, Thai just have in 11st or 12nd century but they said Angkor wat is belong to Thai but Angkor Wat was established in 9th century and completed for almost 30years before having Siyam or Siem.
@@Chhilida05109 That your government book use for teaching Khmers, it's different from Thailand history,...Khom is the ancestor of current Thai.....we were here moe than 5,000 years, such the people in Banchieng or Srithep...A Chaivoraman prototype were Siam ancestry....Chaivoraman had moved to Pranakorn and his series has build up Ankor Wat that occured behind Srithep about 700 years.

Lakhon Khol is a traditional theatre performance of Cambodia. Mask theatre of Cambodia having its origins during the Angkor period. It is believed to have begun during the 10th century through the inscription K. 99 Sambor Prei Kuk temple in the reign of King Jayavarman V (CE 968-1001) and khon made in 1350.
