It is so comforting to listen someone yap about your exact opinion. I never did understand the hype for NH. But oh, the hype for ACNL lived for it. I even loved the name of the game so much that I named my town New Leaf. Can't believe it's been almost 12 years.
i miss when villagers had actual personalities instead of the saying the same recycled lines and always agreeing with you. Villagers used to feel like their own people, but now they're like dolls who don't care what you do or say, or how you treat them
I love going to the actual Roost and working with Brewster to serve coffee, I love going to club LOL and dancing the night away, I love not having complete control of everything. New horizons is pretty and I adore it too and it’s such a small thing but the music really brings it down for me. New Leaf has the best soundtrack, if I could play new horizons with new leaf music it would elevate it lol.
I think they gave us TOO MUCH freedom with AC:NH. The terraforming, being able to move and redecorate villagers houses, choosing who moves in and leaves, etc. Part of AC’s original charm was the randomness of life. It’s supposed to be a Life Sim and life is unpredictable, we aren’t supposed to have control over everyone and everything. But AC:NH is more akin to a dollhouse sim than a life sim, which is why I like it less.
Right and I remember I had a memory in me as a kid in macys walking with my 3ds as I walked in my town character, fully immersing myself into the game😂
Yes I agree, I find all the customisation stressful. I like that in New leaf I don't have to worry about any of that, just enjoy my time exploring and interacting
I feel like New Leaf was everything I wanted in an animal crossing game when it came out. When New Horizons came out, it added a lot of new ideas that were really good, but it failed to include to some of my favorite things in New Leaf like tortimer island. I don't know if I'd say I prefer NL over NH, but I can't say that NH was anywhere near as amazing and chock-full of things to do as NL was on release. Even in it's final form, it feels like it's still missing a lot of things that could have been included.
You are one of the friendliest and softest sounding TH-camrs I’ve come across 💖 for me personally, new horizons felt empty as someone who enjoys the villager oriented aspects of the game. I like doing tasks but I like the villagers and community asking me for help with things like in new leaf. Building and doing things for them, for us, it felt more like taking care of them and the community and that feels much less so in new horizons. My other gripe is a very common one- no personalities with these villagers. I’m heartbroken at how empty it feels to interact with them. They are the most empty and blank personalities and dialogue in the entire series. This game has an even bigger focus on playing with friends but it feels like it leaves people like me out where we play animal crossing to BE friends with the VILLAGERS, and to have it be a quiet escape in my alone time, not have them be filler npcs while I play with a friend or two in game. I remember the creator of the game i think saying he made ac originally bc he felt lonely and wanted animal crossing to be en escape for people who feel that way and it doesn’t feel like that with new horizons. I’m worried with NH popularity it will be solely focused on design and multiplayer and we might never really get back a lot of the genuine fun of new leaf and wild world that really felt like it catered just as much to a solo player. I hate that I can’t have all the fruit unless I have friends, i don’t like how it takes 10x as long to finish DIY’s if ur not trading with friends, I don’t like that the villagers say the same 2-4 things everyday. I miss so many of the really small varied and enjoyable tasks from new leaf that felt so much more fun to seek out and complete compared to daily tasks in new horizons. New horizons gets a lot right I just don’t see why we can’t have both aesthetic charm and design WITH everything else new leaf had. Combing the two in my eyes would be a perfect game. I think there’s also the fact that we paid less for new leaf and got so much more updates and mini games and content in comparison to a 60 something dollar game that had a few updates and still left a lot of things bare boned. Ppl say “you complain too much they added so many things!!” Yeah, THINGS. Actual improvements to gameplay, villagers, solo function, and actual stuff to DO besides designing is ABSENT!
Og player here, NL beets NH with its charm and cozy small town atmosphere. The only complaint I had about NL was the lack of character customization options that new horizons got right. I couldn’t make my character look like me. I miss the town feel instead of living on an island in the middle of nowhere. I just sometimes miss that feeling in animal crossing of living life. I’ve played all animal crossing games, wild world and new leaf were my favorites. Growing population and wild world had the best villager interactions
I am still so in love with new leaf! It is the best animal crossing game in my opinion, I feel like new leaf there is always a reason to go back even if it's just to check on your villagers, whereas I know if I am going back to new horizons nothing is going to be different and no one is really going to care that I was gone for an extended period of time. I really hope for the future of animal crossing we get a more expanded version of new leaf with some of the quality of life improvements they made in new horizons.
Exactly!! In New Leaf the villagers actually have personality so there's a reason to open up the game and talk to them. In New Horizons it's the same old recycled dialogue and lifeless characters
I only played NH and NL. I loved both games, and maybe its the adult in me talking but I have less postive feelings on NH now because while I had fun, i felt like I had to make tje fun myself. No villagers coming up to me and randomly wanting things, or trying to get that store upgrade my friend already had. I like decorating as much as the next guy but I like it even better when things have a purpose and a theoretical use. When I would make the town improvembts it would feel like a challenge for a good cause so my villagers could have a Playground. To that point I am a strong believer that the right level of inconviniece makes a game even a cozy decorating game better. Too much freedome takes the point away because I dont feel like im designing the city for villiagers i feel like the villagers are just another design element. When I can change their houses, and get them to move on top of the hill I just made. Also seasonal events not being actual seasonaö events is a crime. They shouldnt be one time things what the fuck
you are completely right 😭 ive been an ac fan since the gamecube days, i was one of the first new leaf youtubers on my old channel, and i couldnt wait to see what they would do with the next one (my parents even got me a wii u for my graduation bc i was so excited for the next mainline game, which never came, and we dont even talk about amiibo festival 😤) but oh what a wait there was, and then new horizons finally came out and,,, didnt live up to the hype. like so many things you mentioned about it were amazing, but at the end of the day it felt hollow, and i didnt get even half the hours i got out of new leaf on it (and most the hours in new horizons were me trying to get balloons to drop the mushroom diys for hours on end while recovering from a surgery, and just being frustrated the whole time lmao) it sucks too bc im so happy nh brought in so many new people to the series! i never thought ac would be so popular, maybe it was just my circle but i never heard anyone talk about it or know what it even was until new leaf. but now that nh is so beloved and popular its just like,, will nintendo even bother listening to the older fans about bringing back staples to the series, and especially not just rereleasing some of them as updates were supposed to be hyped for 🫠 anyways srry for the rant im very passionate about this topic LOL 🩵 i just found ur channel and love it! i hope you get to that 9k mark soon bc you deserve it and so much more!
@@hydroids i still don't think so, they said last "MAJOR FREE" update not last update in general. There's still no post office, what mainline animal crossing game you know doesn't have a post office.

The "Hey wait we actually have more stuff!" is so real. I 'finished' my island and now I cant even restart a new island without delete the one I already made. So I can't start over and I can't see all the new content in full effect. One island per switch is frustrating. (Btw I love the series and have +400 hours in NH. I can still critique it though.)
I playing ACNL about 5 years with brakes and still need 3 fishes, to get all of them and only then I'm gonna visit the museum for the first time . I do not using any cheats, so I has to buy amiibos and RV cards. Almost finished Desert Island Escape. The craziest thing that I'm 40 years old men.
Another feature that i dont see people talk about is the fact that flowers grow like weeds. I hate spending time to dig up each one and fill the hole back in. My town has been taken over by pansies
My favorite is wild world but new leaf was greater as a game and content wise, I just vibed more as a kid in the mid-late 2000s with the retro vibe of wild world and secluded town and the villagers hilarious dialogues
I agree new leaf was the best for overall gameplay especially character personalities. I think some people prefer horizons because of the decorating and customization options. I also started with wild world but drooled over the gc coverage in game magazines.
I only played 3 Animal Crossing so far (New Leaf, Happy Home Designer and New Horizons) and maybe it’s bc I grew up with it, but New Leaf just felt a lot more… alive? Than New Horizons, which seems to focus more on Island Customization than the Characters
I LOVE acnl!! I was just talking with my best friend of 10 years, who I always was playing animal crossing NL and NH with, about which game was better. Ofc it's new leaf for us! But I find it very funny, how perfect this video came out to our conversation. Legit the same time, like you knew that this question was on my mind! Thank you for that amazing video
For me, all New Horizons needs are quality of life changes. My biggest issue is not being able to craft or shop in bulk. Saharah is the worst shopping offender. You can only buy one thing at a time and she has an extreme amount of dialogs. I would love to just come to a vendor, select the items I want to buy and how many of each, and press "pay." Another thing I don't like is that the game doesn't tell you what creatures/fossils you're missing or at that you don't even get hints where and at what time you should be to catch a creature. Completing the museum requires pulling up a wiki and I don't like that. This is really a big issue if you don't like to time travel.
I personally don't enjoy the island decorating and that felt like the main point of New Horizons, whereas previous games had so much more like enriching villager interactions, Nook Store upgrades, and more public buildings overall. Not to mention the nostalgic music. The old games just have a charm that New Horizons lacks. I must say the recycled villager interactions are the worst part and the reason I got bored of the game so easily :(
I absolutely ADORE NL with all my heart! I remember being SO SO excited for NH to come out… and then being sooooo disappointed when I started playing the game
Don’t tell Nintendo I told you this but…you can play animal crossing new new leaf on ur switch (on a modded one) using the app retroarch with overclocking😏
I felt like such a HATER because I FELT THE EXACT SAME WAY. I feel like they should give us a full blown city verification in the next one because I feel like they never really explored that.
Also if New Horizons had New Leaf’s charm, and was a complete game from launch I would’ve loved it so much more. New Horizons looses its life sim aspect and focuses more on creativity. I love and want both! I want it to feel like I’m at my home away from home and interacting with my animal buddies and even have some animals that aren’t your friends! I also want the freedom of creating your house the way you want, terraforming, picking a biome or environment for your island similar to pocket camp, placing facilities where you want them and helping build them, even the campsite from pocket camp could come back and could be a way to meet new animals! Animal crossing has the potential to be fantastic and I hope the next installment exceeds our expectations.
I so agree. While there’s some things I like about NH. A lot of it felt like it was trying to be better and different than NL rather than building off of NL.
If they would allow me to make my character look like me in New Leaf, I’d try it out. But I never got into New Leaf because I can’t make myself in character creation.
I hadn't played NL before playing NH but everyone who had played NL kept saying that NL is better. I had only played WW and Pocket Camp before NH, so to me, NH was HUGE 😂 Still, I wanted to give NL a try and tbh, I feel like nostalgia plays a huge part for NL defenders. Of course, it's also personal preference but imo, NH is the best game. NL actually felt boring to me, in a weird way, because it was TOO perfect, too easy. It felt like everything was being handed to me. It's a huge contrast to NH and I just prefer challening games over easy games. Even going back to WW after having played NH, the nostalgia I had for WW (and I have a loooot of nostalgia) couldn't help me ignore how limiting WW was and how much freedom one has in NH. I also love that in NH you can get so creative with decorating 🩷 NH just has one flaw: Boring villager personalities. But other than that, it's the best game for me! It's the same thing like with BotW and TotK, my heart says BotW was better but when I went back to BotW after TotK, I got annoyed with the limitations of BotW very quickly. "Objectively", NH and TotK are the better games.
My first game was new horizons and I loved it… however a year ago I got new leaf and it’s like 10 times a better game for me. Also wym everything is handed to you? From my understanding all of the unlocks in new leaf are much harder and take around 3 years to get all shops, etc. Since there’s so many shop upgrades. I finished new horizons upgrades in about 2 months and it got boring
@rikoletter4964 Maybe it was because I played on an emulator idk, but because of the Tortimer Island, I got to catch twice as many fish (because it's summer there) and get all the special fruits so quickly. The main shops were already there, so idk which shops you're talking about. Because of the daily fortune cookies, I got so many cool items so quickly as well. Granted, I didn't actually walk the 100 steps because it doesn't work like that on the emulator, but still, 100 steps ain't much 😂 Making money also felt easier in general. That's all I can think of at the spot. Like I said, it's just a huge contrast to ACNH, where you have to do everything little by little and also get all the main shops little by little, like the Nook Shop, Able Sisters, Museum...
@@_mondream New Leaf has 4 upgrades to the Nook's store plus you have to unlock places like Club LOL, Katrina's Fortune House, and the cafe which takes a lot of time
@@jenni4809 Are the upgrades of the store hard to get? Based on what I found online, it shouldn't take too long to upgrade. And is the club important? 😅 Btw: I didn't say (or want to say) that the game was easy, just that it was EASIER.
@@_mondream It took me a few years to get to the last store upgrade but I wasn't grinding to unlock everything quickly, just playing the game at a calm pace. And the club isn't important, it's just a nice extra feature in my opinion. I guess it depends what kind of things you enjoy more in the game
as someone who’s clocked 4000 hours on acnh, i agree 😅 i didn’t get to play new leaf but watched a lot of gameplay bc i was broke at the time, and LOVE new leaf so much more! i have acnl now and im really enjoying it.. hoping pretendo revives multiplayer soon 🥹
The safety concerns with the Tropical Island would've been solved if they made it something you could only access with your friends on the Switch, as opposed to strangers. But instead, they just removed it entirely. 😢
tbh i feel like preferring NL to NH is a pretty widespread opinion, the only people i can think of that disagree would probably be those who dont have experience with NL or started with NH like come on, as cool as all the new NH mechanics were the game was so barren at launch 😭
I bought NL a week before NH because I had to see why it kept trending on tumblr. While I enjoy NH slightly more (because I can actually look like myself) it was and still is very lacking. The updates we were given we could already do in the previous game. And the updates we need we're never gonna get. I'd rather have a new main game anyway, but I refuse to buy it at launch. If I have to wait for updates they can wait for my money.
thanks for making this video ❤ I love both but new leaf was just perfect life sim game. new horizons is really just a decorating game. I hope the next game is both 😢
New Horizons just seemed… too much. The island was way too big, and being allowed control over everything felt stressful. At least with New Leaf, you had options but you couldn’t place a neighbour’s house anywhere, because that’s not how it works in real life! Also the tools breaking bummed me out and made me not want to fish or catch bugs as much. The golden tools at least should’ve been unbreakable!
this may be the least controversial opinion to have about AC these days, if anything defending NH or calling it a good game is what makes people angry for some reason
girl i never played new leaf once in my life but it looks more fun and exciting just looking at it (ı have 1255 hours animal crossing new horizons island lol)but ıf ı had a 3ds ı would problaby like new leaf more than new horizons😽😽
I LUV U I LUV U I LUV U IVE BEEN TRYING TO FIGURE OUT HOW TO COMPILE ALL MY REASONS AND EXPLANATIONS ON WHY NEW LEAF WAS BETTER TO MY NEW HORIZONS ONLY FRIEND 😭😭😭 THERES TOO MUCH
New Leaf is the goat, no question. I still play WW and NL on my 3ds a little bit every single day. I've also been redoing my island on NH for the very first time, it's pretty much the only reason I've been playing lol I'm not all that good at decorating and I just think that NH is literally a decorating simulator😢 I think Nintendo has forgotten what AC was meant to be. Going back to basics isn't going to hurt anybody. And the skin tones, Japanese people have light skin tones, it's not their fault lol. I don't play any game where I make my character and make them look like me, I make them how I would want to look lol I'll never look like that but I can pretend, right?
As someone who still plays the first 4 games, HHD, and even Pocket Camp, I know I’m biased but I genuinely couldn’t enjoy NH 😅 I think NL is the perfect Animal Crossing, not that I don’t have any complaints here and there, but hopefully the next game in the series can improve Also, between Harvest Moon, Style Savvy, and AC it’s like this channel was made for me 🩷
New leaf is great but i think new horizons is far better. I have over 4,000 hours in new horizons. If new horizons had pocket camps structure and gameplay i literally would never stop playing new horizons.
new leaf did better than the new one so did the wii u and 3ds to the switch, face it people, consoles this gen just want your moolah and want to give you a sub par experience
Real OGs will agree, NL > NH

I felt like such a HATER because I FELT THE EXACT SAME WAY. I feel like they should give us a full blown city verification in the next one because I feel like they never really explored that.
I like both Animal Crossings I remember Animal Crossing: New Leaf when I was little on my Nintendo DS
I've been meaning to make this exact video!! I have a lot of takes, including the inferior music in NH
Animal crossing new leaf makes me freaking cry I have so many fond memories playing this gameeeeee😭😭😭😭
@@justicefoster955 agree 100%
I love NH but at the end of the day I want to be in my little town 😢
I so agree. While there’s some things I like about NH. A lot of it felt like it was trying to be better and different than NL rather than building off of NL.
If they would allow me to make my character look like me in New Leaf, I’d try it out. But I never got into New Leaf because I can’t make myself in character creation.
No literally SAME!! 😭 the skin tone changes of new leaf reaaaally threw me off
I played the og animal crossing on gamecube but didnt get into new leaf the way i thought i would. was obsessed with acnh though
GIRLL cuz it’s the truth. Over the past decade and a half I have played every ac game in depth. New leaf is fs the better game
as someone who’s clocked 4000 hours on acnh, i agree 😅 i didn’t get to play new leaf but watched a lot of gameplay bc i was broke at the time, and LOVE new leaf so much more! i have acnl now and im really enjoying it.. hoping pretendo revives multiplayer soon 🥹
The safety concerns with the Tropical Island would've been solved if they made it something you could only access with your friends on the Switch, as opposed to strangers. But instead, they just removed it entirely. 😢
You are so real for this you basically said all i would say
tbh i feel like preferring NL to NH is a pretty widespread opinion, the only people i can think of that disagree would probably be those who dont have experience with NL or started with NH
like come on, as cool as all the new NH mechanics were the game was so barren at launch 😭
Rosie is best girl. I only let her go bc the rng kept having her ask if she could so eventually I let her. 😭
You should definitely give the first one a try!
the way i immediately said "youtube ate w the recommendations" when i seen this video!! 😂 just what i needed while im doing dishes haha
If I have to wait for updates they can wait for my money.
i did really enjoy new leaf the most ❤ can’t wait to see your infinity nikki videos 🎉
thanks for making this video ❤ I love both but new leaf was just perfect life sim game. new horizons is really just a decorating game.
As someone who still plays the first 4 games, HHD, and even Pocket Camp, I know I’m biased but I genuinely couldn’t enjoy NH 😅
I think NL is the perfect Animal Crossing, not that I don’t have any complaints here and there, but hopefully the next game in the series can improve
Also, between Harvest Moon, Style Savvy, and AC it’s like this channel was made for me 🩷
NEW LEAF MY GOAT
FINALLY someones saying it outright i been playing since wild world and i agree new horizons is LACKING
New leaf is great but i think new horizons is far better. I have over 4,000 hours in new horizons. If new horizons had pocket camps structure and gameplay i literally would never stop playing new horizons.
The thumbnail quality 😅
New leaf was the best
new leaf did better than the new one so did the wii u and 3ds to the switch, face it people, consoles this gen just want your moolah and want to give you a sub par experience
REAL ASF
All the 23 y/o were just 👶's then 😹 I'm ngl I thought this gAme looked 🤡 at first but my ♥️ is a tie between the game cube and DS version 🎮

Your video making is good. Also, your video Thumbnail is very attractive. But I found some problems in your Y-T Channel. I can talk to you, Buddy!
omg so real, i just couldnt connect with NH while with NL i have both nostalgia as well as more fun with the gameplay and choices
