- 20 tricks with 1 prop is a speciality trick title of Do More With Your Dog (DMWYD). The prop can be any object and it doesn’t need to be slotted into a story. I'm a Certified Trick Dog Instructor and happy to assess anyone's submission for free who would like to achieve this title or any of the official DMWYD trick titles approved by the American and Canadian Kennel Clubs and other international clubs. Join Quirky Rory's Fun Tricks Team group on Facebook for more info and to see Rory demonstrate tricks in various levels. You can also ask for advice there on how to teach a particular trick. I’m not being paid by DMWYD, only doing this to help you and your dog have fun in activities that provide lots of mental stimulation. Everyone is welcome, regardless of breed, age, location. You're also very welcome to join even if you don't want to work towards gaining an official title just show off your clever pup’s tricks.

This is my favorite 20 to 1 (and really, my fav dog video). The creativity that went into this is awesome! Several times I went "Oh No!" when fox kept coming after bunny! I've had pet rabbits and BC's so this was very special to me. I especially like the trick of Rory "sitting pretty" and hugging Bunny. Do you have a link for how to train that behavior? Rory is exactly the type of BC that I want to add to my family (I've had BC's for over 30 years). I'm looking for a very creative, quirky, intelligent and fun BC for tricks, dancing with dogs and as a great "doggy daughter". What is Rory's pedigree? Hugs to you and Rory!
Glad you like it. Rory's dad came from working sheep dog line (ISDS registered), his mum from lines that were bred for show. He really is a joy to be with, very intelligent but definitely quirky. :) I don't have a video of how to teach the hug a toy trick yet, but I'll make that one of the ones I film when I get round to doing teaching videos. Here's a brief description how I'd do it. Are you familiar with training using a clicker or similar marker? I would start with teaching a solid sit pretty - increasing the duration for maintaining that position as he builds muscle in his core. Once your dog can hold the position for let's say 10 seconds, hold an item (larger - long shaped - toy, broomstick, etc) close to his chest as he balances. He will likely try to grab hold of it to help him balance. Click and treat if he does. If he doesn't, take it slower: if he makes a slight movement with his front legs at all towards the toy, click and give a treat. Gradually increase the criteria, only clicking when his leg actually makes contact with the toy. Make sure you click exactly the same time as he touches the toy. Once he gets hold of the toy, wiggle it, as if you were trying to take it away. It can create a reaction in the dog to resist you taking it away, so he will try to pull it closer to himself. Continue working on this and as he's clutching the toy/broomstick introduce the verbal command (I say "cuddle"). You can then shape the duration of the hug, by giving him more treats, one after the other, while he's maintaining the position. You can also start to ease your hold of the toy, eventually removing your hand when he can hug the object without dropping it. Hope it makes sense?

I’m glad you like the videos. I can highly recommend trick training. It’s not only great fun for both of you but a great way to keep your pups brain active. Rory loves our time spent together in theses sessions and so do I.

@@PlatinAviation One example... I recharge the battery to my lawn mower in the basement. One day, when I came upstairs with the battery in hand, I went into the living room and sat down to talk to my wife. As I was talking, Cody kept bugging me by doing a "rush nudge" with his snout.
The following day, I figured out what he was doing. Instead of walking directly outside Ike I would normally do, I was "wasting time" talking to my wife "INSTEAD OF FOCUSING ON THE PIORITY" which was.... MOWING THE LAWN !!!
At least Cody had his PRIORITIES straight. He just had to get me back on FOCUS !!!

While it looked like Rorie "dragged" Bunny, she is actually a breed commonly known as "Flopsie Buns". That is how they run ! They are a special type of lop-eared buns that have affinities for Border Collies. Their scientific name is : Oryctolagus Cuniculus Flopsiensis. Some scientists also add Bordercolliensis as the variety but that was deemed to be to "breedist" as some have actually been seen being "dragged" (actually running) behind Goldens and it is speculated other breeds as well.
