I saw them around that time at the Northern College of Music, Manchester. My friend had just got the Folk Songs album. Do you remember Jan just improvising on the mouthpiece of his soprano? He took it off the horn and started playing it. Mesmerising

Los trés aparecieron en '79 y '80 en Berlin como música de otro mundo. Publicaron "Folk Songs" y "Mágico", dos albumes maravillosos con ECM.

Is it possible that I heard this trio at Kalvøya-festivalen in 1972? One of the deepest musical experiences I have ever had.
I don't know. But their first recording was in 1980. And it would be odd for a trio playing in 1972 to wait 8 years before recording.
Kalvøya 1972 is certainly too early. Gismonti recorded in Oslo November 1976 with Vasconcelos. I guess that was the first time in Europe.
'Garbarek' comes from the Latin word for Nordic people who don't speak Latin, which to the Romans sounded like "garbarek"

This video dates from the 70's. I don't have an exact date but it is approximately 1974-1978
