There's a quality to Neil Young's music, particularly during this time period of the Singer / Songwriter era of the early 70s, that captures a deep sadness, a sadness of an America lost (which is ironic when knowing that he's Canadian). But maybe that's it. Those of us that are American, maybe we're too close to the American scene to separate truth from fiction, while someone who's originally not from this country can, perhaps, step back to see things more objectively. Whatever the inspiration of Young's music, he's created a new kind of folk music that's brutally honest, yet beautiful and melodic -- all at the same time. Other masterpieces of his that share this bittersweet reflection -- 'I am a Child,' 'Old Man,' "The Needle and the Damage Done,' 'Helpless' -- speak of a bygone innocence stolen by experience (in the vein of William Blake) or by personal demons that make the listener yearn for simpler times. In short, THANK GOD Neil Young left Toronto and came to California at just the right time, to join others with similar sentiments and introspection. And thanks once again to Stan the Man, who gives such a heartfelt appraisal of a rich genre of music that has endured the test of time.

Great reaction, When i hear the very first cords of this song, and like many other songs and bands of that time makes me feel like I'm 17 again! It makes me think of what i was doing at that time when i hear these classic songs of my youth, I'm 72 now

Neil Young is The MAN. Seen him four times in concert, and there is nothing like watching Neil stomp around the stage in the middle of one of his songs, especially playing with his band Crazy Horse ( Billy Talbot-Bass, Frank "Pancho" Sampedro-Guitar and Ralph Molina-Drums. Frank left, and now it is Nils Lofgren-Guitar). Neil has a lot of variety in his songs: "Rockin' In The Free World", "Powderfinger", "Harvest Moon", "Cinnamon Girl", "Needle And The Damage Done", "After The Gold Rush", "My My Hey Hey (Out Of The Blue)", "This Note's For You", "Sugar Mountain", "I Am A Child", "Sedan Delivery", "Welfare Mothers", "Hey Hey My My (Into The Black). That's a start.

Neil Young is the best! He is one of the musicians, along with Bob Seger, Grateful Dead and others, who just love music and play for the love of music and not for monetary gain.

Neil is what I would call an organic artist, until he picks up that electric geetar! Then he becomes mesmerizing!
