The series was fantastic! It had a significant impact on my aviation hobby and love for travel. Diamonds in the Sky is well known and admired by all AvGeeks who grew up in the 70s and 80s. I'd like to thank your for your excellent journalism. Well done, sir. Wishing you the best!

Loved this series when I first saw it in 1991. Now I enjoy watching it again for the nostalgia. I wish documentaries were still made like this gem. Thank you Julian for taking us along for the journey!

I just stumbled across this while looking for episode #7 - I can't thank you enough for what this series made me into, and for the historical detail that is unparalleled to this day. Diamonds in the sky guided me further into an industry that I love, live for and obsess over. I watched this series in the USA during the first runs back in the very early 80s, and it has stayed with me for the entire run of my life with fond memories. Thank you for giving a detailed & accurate look of how our airline industry has grown, changed & become, and a snapshot of what it was in 1979.

Many thanks for your comment. In 56 years of broadcasting, Diamonds in the Sky was one of the series that gave me the greatest joy and satisfaction. I wonder if you know the accompanying book with the same title. It is still available I think from specialist booksellers.. Happy flying! JP.

Wow! This is wonderful. I watched this series as a youngster. It really sparked my interest in the commercial aviation industry; a keen hobby that is still very much a part of my life. You're an outstanding journalist and did a fabulous job in this series. Thank you so much fort sharing :)

Loved watching your show as a child... I was a avid plane spotter and a boy scout in the air scouts.. this show blew my mind... lying on my back in the garden watching the very airlines and aircraft you featured in your show through my binoculars as thet cruised over Ireland to the USA... thank you

I loved this series when I was a kid. I still find myself humming the theme tune all these years later.

At 21:49, the DC10 they’re inspecting is the infamous N1819U, the ill-fated United 232 aircraft

I am just so jealous on how wide the seats are back then in coach, and they got unlimited drinks, as well as a two course meal. Now on United's Chicago to Honolulu flight, they don't even get a free meal anymore.

It would be interesting to compare how the airline industry has changed since 1979, because it has seen massive changes, for good or bad…

14:49 "Hopefully, Mozart can persuade the caller to hang on." That single narration line has helped me find out the title of that specific track. I've been looking for it forever because it's so common. Even my daughter's toy radio plays it. So I found a TH-cam video of the most common Mozart songs people can't name. And boom, there it was. "Piano Concerto No. 21 In C K467, II. Andante"

Loved watching this as a child and avid planespotter. A great documentary but a bit too sophisticated for an 8 year old, I just wanted to see more of the planes!

Dick Ferris. Arrogant CEO Allegis concept a case study in how not to bundle travel-went down in flames. Best suited for his golf excursions in Carmel. RIP
