    I wish people would understand being zero waste isn’t about fitting a years worth of waste into a jar. It’s about being environmentally and ethically conscious, and thinking about each purchase before you make it. Low impact doesn’t mean you use absolutely zero plastic, but that you’re mindful about how much you take off the shelf. Refuse, reduce, reuse, THEN recycle and rot. Anybody and everybody can make an impact without having a trash jar!

    Just thought people need to hear this :
    You DO NOT have to go completely zero waste. But that doesn’t mean you can’t do anything. Next time you go shopping, try implementing this into you lives. For example, you could mabye not use that plastic bag for your bananas? What’s the use really...
    Another thing I’ve learnt is going to buy rolled oats in Lidl’s instead of other places since they package theirs in paper not plastic which is less harmful. I’ve seen people in then comments say ‘I want people to make that change now’ or something along the lines. But really truly when you break it down, it’s the little things that count. And you can start.

    • @gabrielamedel8777
      @gabrielamedel8777 6 ปีที่แล้ว +16

      Gabriela Moctezuma exactly ! Everyone needs to contribute. We are on the path to a total catastrophe with this climate change. If everyone stopped living in their little bubble once in a while and started doing things to help the planet, even if IT IS a little inconvenient, this could really be turned around.

    Not 100% certain, but I saw a documentary about a chain of grocery stores that reduces the amount of waste/packaging. They used plant cellulose to create "plastic" like packaging to compost. Also, isn't there farmer's markets in London? Package free (in most cases at least in the US)

      It might feel that way but it's not actually true. We've known about global warming since the early 80's and though change has been glacially slow, some parts of the world are further ahead than others. Today my country proposed a law to forbid sales of diesel and gas cars by 2030, and we've cut our co2 emission by 40% since 1990. The world is working in the right direction and you are not alone! Just don't stop working and advocating!

Even something simple like switching to bamboo toothbrushes can help significantly over a lifetime. Hopefully waste free shops will realise that they’re in demand and open all over the country instead of just in the big cities. It’s an eye opening video however for my mental health I am also forced to push it to the back of my mind and just do what I can. I don’t know how the people who are really fully informed about climate change get through life and have kids and stuff, the future seems so bleak.

      @@sophiesmith9351 exactly. People now bring their own bags to supermarkets because they made it a thing to pay for plastic bags. If they make them change their packaging, check if things are being reused or recycled, etc then people won't even have the choice to ruin the environment. They will be forced to change their ways. A few people going zero waste will do fuck all, you have to force it on the public.

    I do believe that they sell spices and seasonings in glass jars and if you get one of those and reuse it instead of throwing it its 0 waste

    I would LOVE to be zero waste but in my area it would be impossible. There is no bulk sections in any shops near me (nearest would be in London over 2 hours away) it makes me so sad to see what we are doing to our planet

      You don't actually have to go to a trendy zero waste shop!

      There are some online options for dried goods plasticfreepantry, zero-waste-club and realfoods.co.uk, the first two are expensive, but the last one is decent

      @@missmeakat Had a look. The pasta is way more expensive than the supermarket version.
      There really aren't any good alternatives if there aren't any zero waste shops or bulk sections near where you live.

    We have organic bins here in British Columbia, Canada. A truck comes and takes the waste from our homes. I'm not sure what they do with it after that in this city but when I was living in Surrey, British Columbia they turned the organics into fuel for the garbage trucks.
    We also have bulk foods in every grocery store.

    A bulk store near me has an aisle full of candy, another one for seasonings, then one for cake/brownie supplies/mix, one for nuts, chocolate, rice pasta, sugar and a lot more. Its literally like heaven for me
