    I definitely agree with the main point of the video of not focusing tanks as Genji and healers are definitely the #1 priority - but I also find that tanks are great for farming ult too.
    Especially Roadhog & Rein who are easy to hit and because Genji's ult can be fairly easier to get than others, getting ult for the first team fight can be really beneficial (while the backhand argument is damaging ranks causes healers to get their support ults)...awesome vid and I hope it helps fellow Genji mains out there!

    This video is so much better than unit losts. You watch the gameplay before making the video and analyze the players weaknesses. Really cool!

      ρυηρυη Yeah all Unit Lost does is focus on positioning. Skyline focuses on macro and micro gameplay.

      And, here's a nutty concept, Sky often logs into game and sets up mock scenarios to illustrate his points. It's almost like... he's really putting effort into critiquing and helping players that watch his video!

      tbh Stylosa does not give the best advice in overwatch. Hes a good player otherwise he wouldnt be in GM but his general advice he gives in his videos are either poor or aimed at people a lot lower level than the demographic skyline is aiming at.
      Someone else who is really good for vod reviews if you dont mind them being a bit longer is One Amongst Many. doesnt upload often but is very smart and gives great advice.
      Skyline is probably the best out there for advice though followed by overatch dojo and OAM

      ρυηρυη -- Unit lost doesn't really know a lot about strategy, he's just using Overwatch as his way to make content and money.

    • @albertm7178
      @albertm7178 7 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      Liofa If he didnt know anything about strategy, he wouldnt be a grand master player
      He isnt on the same levels as pros, i will give most people that.
      Hell, some diamond and master players play better then him.
      But he is an okay player.
      He just
      A. Suck with critiquing.
      B. Gives meh to bad advice for heroes he doesnt play much.

      WEi I play on my all account for dps, and I must say, people are oblivious to genjis and tracers flanking. Like people in plat only focus on what's in front of them.

      As a Grandmaster Genji main. I agree,, this tutorial is SUPER informative, even for a lot of master Genji's. I do feel however that in a tutorial like this a bit more character mechanics explanation could have been done in the beginning or as a bonus.
      For example: As Genji with ult, you often use the Slash/Dash combo, This player could have used this in his last ult aswell, would have been a helpfull tip in my humble opinion. Same goes for, when to use left or right mouse button & last but not least, canceling animations (IE: Wall climbing will sheating the sword).
      Once again, good video however, keep it up!

    Wow, you reviewed this much faster than I anticipated!
    Thanks for the tips, I figured Target Priority was a huge point.
    There are some things that, I guess just don't cross my mind. I've only just recently started playing Genji in competitive even though he's my most played hero, simply because I don't feel I can make as big an impact with him as I could on, say, soldier, in that kind of setting. I've always just stuck with my team, probably stems from playing a majority of Comp with Lucio. Thank you again! Hopefully after a few more games I can iron out these issues and really play my role correctly.

      Hey there Aresaka, I've been commenting some Genji "tips" and I feel like they might be helpfull for you aswell so coppied my posts for you
      Tip for you: At the start of the video when you were behind the enemy, DO NOT poke the enemy tanks (as Skyline mentioned) if you're in a good flanking position, dont let the enemy know where you are by poking them with neglectable damage. Try to *sneak* behind the enemy supports and go for that instant kill on them! (Right mouse to the face and dash).
      Tips specifically for (THE OTHER GUY) (even though I havent seen you play): Go for resets on the supports as stated in this video, wait for the right oppertunity and go in for a quick kill and get out. Focus firing on Genji is VERY important as is on every DPS but untill you're ready to pounce on that support focus the hero's your team are focussing.
      As a Grandmaster Genji main. I agree,, this tutorial is SUPER informative, even for a lot of master Genji's. I do feel however that in a tutorial like this a bit more character mechanics explanation could have been done in the beginning or as a bonus.

      Another thing for you my man, when you dash up for a dragonblade, kinda try to take a breath, and actually look at where your enemies are, and stay calm and focus. i am guilty of often dashing up, getting stressed and just dash towards someone and forgetting where the rest are, and die.

    • @Aresaka
      @Aresaka 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah this is something I've been trying to fix personally. It seems like as soon as I dash in with Dragonblade I lose all game sense. It's not as bad as it used to be, but can be much improved. I'll try slowing down and taking a breath, thank you :D

    • @lusilverrr
      @lusilverrr 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Heres a single tip for dragon blades, when you get a strike with a dragon blade, dash to cancel the animation, then strike again, that's 290 damage happening quicker than 240, you'll get way better blades especially when you can just strike/ dash sub 170 health enemies

    Great video, very informative!
    One minor point: I'm not a big fan of the white transition screen. It's too bright after the normally quite dark ingame footage for me and it lacks a certain... I don't know... professional look, I guess. I think transition animations are a good idea, but this one needs some improvements. Like just the blue semi-transparent Skyline logo without the white background and a more fancy background instead. Like a blurry version of the new footage, or some stock video footage 3D animation with your logo on top, or maybe you or a some fan can come up with a really cool looking custom animation.
    Just a "fade to black" -> "black to the new footage" animation would work as well in my opinion, but if you want to use a fancy transition animation, it should also look really professional because it draws attention to itself more than an unobtrusive "here comes a new scene" fade to black or similar quick transition.

    I really wanted to see an ult guide for genji. I know the basics like slash swing and swing at an angle to maximize the hitbox, dash resetting etc. I see players slashing through wrecking everyone while I get caught in awkward places swinging and not hitting anyone and eventually dying.

  • @usama6696
    @usama6696 7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    I disagree completely with 1:45 re. ignoring the Winston. At that moment the Winston had to be focussed otherwise he would have killed the supports or at least Ana. the genji did 58% of damage and helped greatly in killing the Winston and thus saving the supports. Genji can do a ton a burst damage to Winston close up something many commentators ignore.
    Despite what Skyline said ignoring the Winston is the WRONG thing to do in that situation. Otherwise good analysis lol

    At 7:25 the 1v1 against the genji, 2 things 1) Genji is a projectile type hero, so tracing him 100% all the time will most likely be misses and 2) Even if you where a hitscan hero, when 1v1 a tracer or a genji its beter to prediction shot/aim where they gonna be instead of aiming at them where they are now (this is more from my personal experience if you're a trace god so be it)
    I advice to drill pre-aiming in your default skill set since it will help a lot with this issue, after you master this you dont have to think much about it and all you have to do is mostly flicks which is (what some people say, which I disagree) just muscle memory

    • @willrocksBR

    A tip that my t500 friend told me is: if you can, swift strike through their team. It gets you a lot ult. Only use it when you know you will get a kill or an easy escape

  • @hugoclarke3284
    @hugoclarke3284 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    While everything you say is true, in the context of what he's doing I question whether it's applicable.
    For example, the opening where he shoots the Winston and Dva: he's not actually "focusing" tanks in that instance. He's shooting for ult charge, because there is no squishy in his immediate location.
    Second, when he shoots the Winston, you tell him he should go for enemy supports who are unprotected. But who will protect his own supports? His Ana nades the Winston and by punishing his solo leap they quickly polish him off.
    In short, I don't disagree with what you say, but I don't think it's very applicable to this vlod. But I am not a high ranked player myself. I do have a lot of experience on the character and watching the decision making of pro players.

    Two things I think you need to make aware in this video is dont always be looking to dive into their backline as genji. You touched on it when talking about the winston diving in and that being his chance to go after the back line (I also feel like he was actually playing well going after the winston at this point. The winston had dived his supports and got anti healed. So if the whole team focusing the winston would go down quick and he was saving his supports) .
    As you get higher in ranks as genji its all about picking fights. FInd some high ground that lets you constantly re-position and spam tanks for a fast blade get some shots at supports and wait for an opportunity to dive into the back and ruin their day. If you constantly just go straight for a dive in the backline from the get go it wont work. If they have 2 healers and a dps shielding them most of the time youre gonna have a bad time.
    Pick fights you know your skill can win or sometimes pick fights that you know you will survive for a while maybe not getting picks but annoy the hell out of that ana and solder/mcree whatever so they are not helping in the team fight letting your team 5v4 the enemy you then escape.

    • @9thAvalon
      @9thAvalon 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I would agree with your first sentence, but in the case shown the Winston had dived into their entire team, all by himself. Genji doesnt do much damage to armor or tanks anyway, so he didn't need to contribute to the Winston kill - his team had it handled. While that Winston left ALL his supports, they were basically easy pickings for a Genji who, at the very least, could single-handedly keep both supports tied up for days, during which time they aren't healing their team. It's a heat-of-the-moment decision (and one I prolly would mess up more often than not myself), but it's one he should focus on making second nature. Just my two cents though.

Also on the part where winston dived his healers, I think that it was right to try to peel for his healers instead of attacking the enemy ones. idk, maybe its just playstyle differences

      You need to be more consistent if you have problems getting into gm. Always do warm up games before playing, don't play if you are so tilted that you blame everyone for when you make a mistake. And as always, stay positive.
      I always advocate voice communicate because it can balance out some of your own and your teammates mistakes/weaknesses but there are people who do not communicate.
      I am gm in eu, I main support and flex as tank (rein zarya) or dps (soldier).

    • @yayisnotasinger
      @yayisnotasinger 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I climbed out of plat as support literally only by having a cheery tone the entire time and not really focusing my mind on whats going on with my team. After you enter diamond though and the mid-high part of diamond you'll want to start focusing on your team a little more as support. Only because right around there (At least as far as I found) you stop being able to consistently kill the flankers on you, so you have to do some musical chairs around your tanks and enviroment.

    • @ZortexOH
      @ZortexOH 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Coppied my comment for you so you can read the "tips" I gave that are pretty helpfull things to think about while in game.
      Tips specifically for you (even though I havent seen you play): Go for resets on the supports as stated in this video, wait for the right oppertunity and go in for a quick kill and get out. Focus firing on Genji is VERY important *as is on every DPS* but untill you're ready to pounce on that support focus the hero's your team are focussing.

    If you're not playing Genji like a flanker and just spamming shurikens into the Rein shield, it's an awful hero pick because, McCree, Soldier, Roadhog and even more heros are better at this frontal role.

    It kinda annoys me when people play high skill characters when they may not have the actual knowledge to do so, for example, this person struggles with target priority, and as a dps, a role that has a lot of responsibility, it's far from ideal. Personally, I feel like this is a big issue with many dps players, they take on a role that they think they do well as, but may in fact not do great. Please keep in mind I'm speaking generally, not just in this persons case, and so I do not mean any offence towards this player, I just find it slightly annoying to play with people who struggle with this type of thing at such a rank as diamond.
    If I was to give a tip to anyone who wants to play dps, aiming isn't the most crucial thing, and it can be less time consuming to learn positioning and target priority for a higher reward. I'm only low/mid diamond, with the accuracy of one, but I think I understand pretty much all of the knowledge there is to know about the game, other than the occasional ridiculous Mei wall flank (of course, I don't claim to be a fountain of knowledge, I just know my stuff). I do my research, and I heavily suggest that people do the same before going into comp, it certainly helped me climb, it may very well do the same for you.
    I have a friend who is mid plat, who tries to main Genji, and he doesn't seem to realize that what's holding him back is not knowledge. He actually knows what he's meant to do, but he doesn't do it properly, he'll try to flank, but he won't do anything after flanking, then it pretty much becomes a 5v6. I don't know about his mechanical skill, because the footage he sent me was crap quality, but I think if he executed the knowledge he knows, and becomes aware of his surrounding in-game, he would do a lot better. The only problem with him is that he never switches, because he thinks he 'carries', but I don't think he does, because he barely ever kills healers, resulting in a rez after his ult, then a lost team fight, and potentially game. It's all about target priority. if you're in bronze and you kill the healers, you'll probably win... I think... then again, at that rank, you may be better off killing the dps, as the healers be not be great at healing.

    • @BlackDT

      If you're learning a character, don't do it in comp. You'll be a detriment to your team.

    • @bread8176
      @bread8176 7 ปีที่แล้ว +16

      Many heros play fairly differently outside of comp than in (somewhat dependent on mmr). A balance of drills, other modes, and comp is necessary to learn a hero.

    • @joe9832
      @joe9832 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Exactly, it's best to train your accuracy in the training room or against a friend in a custom game, as you don't hold anyone back, and as for the rest, like positioning, you can do the same in a custom game, you can learn projectile speeds in a training room, and as for tactics on characters, you learn that from either videos, friends, or qp, it's not rocket science. Besides, you'll learn slower in comp if anything, because you'll die more, because the enemy team will actually try to win, and if you're not familiar with a flanker, then you die before you learn or improve anything against a semi-decent team.
      It's not like you can learn very much on your own, tactics that people use in Overwatch were 'founded' by the player-base over time, for example, target prioritization, you don't learn that in-game just by playing comp, you get it gradually through better teamates suggesting targets, or by looking up tips for improvement.
      Also, did you read my comment, I said I was speaking generally, as in, dps's that take on responsibility they can't handle annoys me. How does that not make sense for a diamond player, who should know the basics of engaging? It's not like I was trying to insult this player, in fact, I even said "keep in mind I'm speaking generally, not just in this persons case, and so I do not mean any offence towards this player", it's just annoying that he picks dps when he can't really contribute to the team, and kind of weighs it down.

    • @joe9832
      @joe9832 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Kelson Ball That's true to an extent, I'm mainly playing the devil's advocate here, but don't you think that you can refine your accuracy, tactics, and routes in other places than comp just as effectively? It's not hard to start a custom game. Also, it's unfair to drag down a team with a character you may not be very effective with when the other 5 of your team are fighting for rank.
