This guy is an awesome commentator. I don't even know what's happening, but it's clear this guy does.

Doesn't he introduce himself at the start of the video? Anyway, he is Michael Redmond, a 9 dan professional Go player.

I love how constantly throughout the match he says "they could do this, this or this ... but instead they did this" just goes to show how creative and freeform go can be, and also how great the players are. constantly subverting expectations

3 years later and I’m still learning from one video. Pretty good testament I’d say.

I wish I had anywhere near the playing ability to understand the game like this! Amazing.

He basically has a Doctorate in Go… maybe 2 Doctorates.
So anywhere approaching his strength would be fantastic.

Lol I know this is a couple years old, but I just found it. Michael looks like he almost laughed during that intro of the players walking out.

Usually I avoid redmonds cast/commentary because he tends to edge on highly technical and doesn't elaborate for the basic thought process. Having said that I completely followed his commentary this match and found it very enjoyable, either I'm more skilled (doubtful) or he was more mindful of the less skilled audience. Either way just wanted to say thank you for the quality content.

That's gotta be so hard to commentate and try to predict their moves this is a good move or here would also be good, oh they played here that's also a very strong move. Hard job good work

Michael I will appreciate that you just follow the moves of the players. You are not playing, show one of your matches.

Goes on tangents... Consistantly falls behind actual gameplay

in the high level board game world we call them variations , and this game is very slow paced he wasn't falling behind much.....

What would you propose he talk about instead? This is what go commentary is. Always playing the game move as fast as possible would not be anywhere near as interesting as hearing a very good player talk about what the players are probably thinking about.

From someone who has absolutely no idea how to play this game, I really liked and appreciated it.
