I've been considering doing a PhD in Virology or Immunology somewhere in Europe, and I think The Netherlands, Denmark, or Sweden would be my top choices for location. Mainly because they value their PhD students and don't treat them as cheap labor like in the US.

Consider the following, you arrive fully grown with a good education ready to contribute to the economy of the Netherlands. Totally free Nigeria paid for it. Advanced degrees are NOT appreciated in Nigeria where tribalism rules in all places of work. Nigerian university lecturers repeatedly go on strike because their salaries are a tiny fraction of what they could earn elsewhere. Ms. Josehpine is an enormous asset right where she is because she will be paid commensurate with her doctorate, while the Netherlands' economy will benefit hugely from her work there.
@@riverbankfisher the fact remains she was born and raised in Nigeria and wether she is appreciated there or not, Nigeria made it possible for her become a productive citizen of the Netherlands. In a way she a gift from Nigeria. From the little I can judge she and her husband are valuable assets the Netherlands received for free. They are here and fully contribute to our national prosperity if you take it one step further they have a child in a country where not enough children are born a fact that can only be seen as positive ( unless you are a racist of course)

4 years is a bit standard for every type of education . That your seen as an employee also gives you a lot of live experience , and a way to lower any student debts while you are working and learning,. and experience is often more worth than what is tought in schools or books .

I am interested in learning more about this benefit, specifically whether it is still offered by TU Delft. Could you kindly provide any official links or information related to this?

Is the competition high for such paid PhD positions? I come from a humanities background. How is the competition compared to humanities v/s tech/STEM??
Hi Taiwo, your university should provide your family with sponsorship too (that’s if your PhD is being sponsored by the university). So I think you should send an email to the Unis HR indicating that you need your family to join you.
@@taiwotemitope1246 I don’t think so. Since PhDs are considered employees of the university, your wife should be provided work permit too on the same level that you were employed. So if you didn’t need to learn Dutch, she shouldn’t too. But I think when you discuss with HR they’ll give all the details.
