Listening to that fabulous AEC engine gives me goose bumps. To me this was the sound of London and I hated it when they replaced the engines. Probably the last bus built to such a specific brief, their longevity in service outstripped the considerable development cost. The urban bus par excellence.
OMG it has the AEC power plant!! Non of the RMLs I came across in 1999 AECs in them. It sounds so much better than those foreign engines. It even has the LT roundel!! I wish they were like this when I was there. Was 2760 restored to original spec from the modifications? All it needs are its original 20" split wheel rims. Great bus!
The heyday of LT? London is not London without seeming a (original) Routemaster now an again. Yes the NewRoutemasters (LT class/NB4L) pay some homage to these icons... but for pure charm the RMs are i a class of their own.
Vincent de Guard nuttin beats the originals. Sadly they couldn't realistically stay in public service indefinitely. They got an amazing trot as it was, never being intended to last in service so long, foreign engines and all. We will get to see them out regularly as preserved vintage vehicles for a long time to come!
dennis trident william Routemaster’s were never built for real speed, being designed for London they were always intended to be a stop start bus. I work on KFF 368 and it’s top speed is 45, 50mph on a good day.
I enjoyed driving the route master 159 and 137 when I started bus driving job in year 2001
"It has never been refurbished since then". Apart from the trips to Aldenham every 3-5 years until 1986...
Thank you for correcting me, I think I should use "modernized" instead.

It does sound very nice, but seems awfully slow.
