Okay I just noticed a really adorable (?) parallel. Barnabas fell into the Lonely, and begged Jonah for help, and he didn't. Martin fell into the Lonely, and he was too far gone to ask for help, and Jon helped him anyway. I'm sure this has been pointed out before, but I just thought it was fun.
I’ve always found the way TMA uses queer-coding in its storytelling super interesting so I thought I’d add this: Jon and Martin’s queer romance leaves subtext becomes text when Jon saves Martin. Jonah never saves Barnabas, and remains queer-coded but never explicitly confirmed for the rest of the series - his closest associates being literal manifestations of distance and loneliness. This is part of a larger theory I’ve had on the use of queer-coding in the series but just suffice to say I think Jonah’s rejection of Barnabas (a potential anchor to his humanity) is mirrored in a loss of connection to that humanity represented in the coding and subtextualization of his identity.
@@malaizze_Oh._ That is a really interesting analysis that is definitely going to change how I think of Jonah forever now (side note: did not expect to find such good character analysis under this video of all things (/pos))
Jonah can have a few (or six) gay letters, as a treat
ปีที่แล้ว +130
Jonah Magnus correspondence can be summed up in: Person writing to Jonah: "Help Jonah my friend, something horrible is happening to me!" Jonah: "How fascinating..." Person: "HELP I'M DYING" Jonah: "Oh pity... Well, anyways."
Alright-how many of Peter and Jonah’s divorces were because of these letters. Obviously at least six, but I’m willing to believe that Lukas found Barnabas’ bones in Jonah’s office and immediately called for another.
Dearest Jonah, In our last correspondence to one another, you appended a phrase of great weight and dimension, one that burdens my soul even now. When we last met at the Society Ball, we swapped stories of youths well spent, gallivanting together, hunting the esoteric, and I felt of you a great closeness, a feeling of being seen like none other I have known. As my travels to my home of Bohemia ended, I rushed as to write to you to continue our friendship, at a distance though it was. When you replied with that singular, awful phrase, it shot me through like musketfire. "No homo"? Not even a little?
I wouldn't. Given the powers that he had at his disposal if he did take offense, never mind what he let happen to a special someone who didn't piss him off, I'd rather not even be on his radar.
I legitimately thought Jonah was a woman until halfway through season 4 because of the way everyone addressed him like he was a better waifu than their very wives.
