This CD is a re-release of Chet Baker's complete September 1983 studio session in Brussels with a trio featuring guitarist Philip Catherine and bassist Jean-Louis Rassinfosse. The session was first released on the French label Igloo (IGL034); however, all six tracks on this reissue by the Gambit label (Spain) have been carefully re-mastered employing the most current state-of-the art technology, and a comprehensive, informative 12-page booklet is also included. Gambit's reissue presents the original session comprising six (6) tracks but also includes a bonus track by the same trio performing a live, 10-minute plus version of Chet Baker's celebrated signature song, My Funny Valentine, in a European performance recorded during the spring of 1985.

Perfect album. I close my eyes and I can literally see the Cherokee happily riding his horse on the grassy prairie into the sunset. Just mesmerizing. Eases my mind & soul.
This music is certainly Heaven on Earth. A gift from these great musicians, God bless them!

the man himself standing there, smoking marihuana during the interval. Frankly told him my situation. He didn't hesitate + took me inside, where he continued to blow: on his horn this time.

I love how Chet always knew not to clutter the sound with drums. Either a piano or guitar and bass was the purest form of music for Chet . So tasteful, God rest Mr. Baker and the magic he left us.

Catherine and Doug Raney playing with Baker had a sound very similar being they got different styles
Really love this recording sets! But his music will always be with us, forever! His subtle, sensual sound was unique and could evoke deep feelings in one's soul!

Questa versione di "Leaving" è superba è un'opera d'arte eterna, come sono le emozioni che suscita. Rabrividisco al suono della sua tromba, a volte sembra un lamento doloroso , con quel caratteristico "Sfiato" mai stridente e squillante, ma morbida ed intima. solo un angelo puo' partorire tanta emozione, tanta da non riuscire a contenerla a trattenerla e sento il bisogno di condividere per sgravarmi di questo dolcissimo dolore, ma chet non è per tutti!

I've listened to Mr. Baker my entire life. He is one of only two artists that make me truly sad. I don't know why, but with Mr. Bakers music I feel an emotional response. I am affected. I guess I enjoy the sadness it brings over me because it lets me know that I can be touched inside. I feel like I get what he's saying and I know what he means.
Now I wonder, who´s the other? Maybe it would be a good musical advise for some people!
From a different perspective, I have only recently started to listen to and LOVE Chet and the music makes me feel wonderful and mellow. Not sad at all. It's like liquid gold.
@@tlm8436 More melancholy than sad, for me. But yes, there is a certain sadness. Perhaps because we know so much about Chet's life.
I can relate to what you are saying. While Chet will never be known as one of the great singers in the history of jazz, there is something about him that touches me emotionally in a way I can't explain.
@@bigswingface5847 Much of jazz has a melancholy feel. Not all, of course. I think a lot of Chet Baker's work reflects this mood. As does the work of another true master, Bill Evans.

Good! There are a lot of these recordings out there. Small, intimate combo here. He made a lot. Me personally haven´t heard this one. And Philip Catherine very good partner, also for a while playing in Focus, but that´s another story. Yes, "Focus" should be J. Akkerman..

You can find what I think is a much earlier version of Lament, also with Phillip Catherine and Jean-Louis Rassinfosse, live, in a club, and a glass breaks. Absolutely my fave of all I've heard by Chet so far. Type in Chet Baker & Lament. Just about the most beautiful thing I have ever heard.
