    That takes me back about 35 years ago. Loved working with leather as a hobby. Then life got in the way. It is a huge bang for the buck hobby. A punch, a star wheel and some artificial sinew and you can create beautiful items. All of my prized knifes live in custom made sheaths. It's fun and cheap to get into. Great video as always.

      elk hunter yes....every time I make something I always enjoy it! Love the smell and working it into a shape. But I will say this was the longest stitching job I’ve every done. Going through the leather and plastic was just sooo tough🤤

    @toronado455 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    lots and lots of patience with all that stitching. very nice work!

    It doesn’t really matter if it works better but it looks GREAT! It just needs to be a project the you did for yourself. Like the fact that this is another type of project. I hope you take us along on your adventure but remember to have fun first and fit a video in if it isn’t a problem. Thanks for sharing.

      Thom Lindgren thank you Thom! Yes very true. It sure did personalize my bow....not another one like it😀👍
      As for the trip, I’m excited. But it is supposed to be much colder than we expected.... with snow. For the videos, it will depend on weather greatly, and if I feel like it would be a valuable or entertaining video. I’ll be on an elk hunt, which I know is not everyone’s cup of tea. So if I do something it would likely be focused on peripheral kinda stuff...the hike, camp stuff, etc,. 😉👍

    Keep shooting. I have been snap shooting for 65 years. It will come back. I began "practicing" on cottontails at 6 yrs. old. I got pretty good at harvesting 5 or 6 rabbits every time I went out for a hunt. I graduated to whitetails at 12 yrs. old. I still hunt with bow and arrow at 71 yrs. old. Nice looking quiver cover. I use a hip quiver that holds way more arrows than necessary. If you shoot well 2 or 3 arrows is plenty but i always wear my back quiver (2 dozen arrows), and hip quiver (12 arrows) because one nevers knows what might happen.

    Nice job Joe. In shop class I made my grandpa & dad a wallet. People just don't understand how hard it is to sew leather. It will destroy your hands if your hand stitching it. And it's so much nicer & last a longtime if done right.
    Would like to see more leather sewing, but I understand if you dont.
    Have a great week,
    Chris from Missouri

    • @homesteadonomics
      @homesteadonomics  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      stilcrazychris yes it is very tough on the fingers! And you may see another one relatively soon as I plan to make a knife out of a saw blade.... and that may very well need a sheath for it😉

    It looks like you were having fun, like a kid again, climbing all over the place to shoot from odd places. But, life is too short to not take some time to have fun. And the quiver cover looks good. Nice job.

    • @homesteadonomics
      @homesteadonomics  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      RoseThistleArtworks thank you! It can be intensive for sure....but this one was especially tough due to the stitching through plastic. But if you aren’t having to form thick leather and just doing some basic stitching it isn’t too bad. Pretty enjoyable really😀👍

    Fantastic Joe! Your videos are always a pleasure to watch. I really appreciate that you bring us along to show the evolution of a project. Oftentimes build videos will cut out the early stages and as someone who enjoys projects myself I find it helpful to see other's complete processes. You did a great job at simulating shooting positions with your "stream crossing" and "canoe shots." It looks great and I'm sure it gives you the fizz every time you look at your work. Well done!

    • @homesteadonomics
      @homesteadonomics  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Gander Flight thank you Joshua! I appreciate that! And yes, looking at it just makes me feel good about it! Btw....took it for about 35-40 miles hiking on an elk hunt in northern AZ this past week. Got close once but ended up getting snowed off the mountian.....12-20” over a day....had to get out or get stuck🥶

    Nice leather work! I need to get more tools before I can dive into dong it as a serious hobby. Working on a cell phone holster right now because nobody makes a decent holster for a Moto G7 Power. I want the corners and edges covered except for a small slot middle bottom to push the phone up. A snug padded fit for protection because my phones have this bad tendency to take trips off the top of a 30 foot tower, off the top of ladders... I have never lost a phone that fell because I have always used a good holster!
