As a videographer I had to re-look at this when reading the complaints about panning the video camera. It's actually well done. It's called 'camera movement' in the shot. Not everyones cup of tea eh? The knife is actually moving with the pan so....the only thing moving is the BG and that is a professional look. This isn't a Walmart commercial. Nor should it be.
Awesome info, thank you! I got me and my spouse a Premier 5.5" Santoku, and I am so excited for them to open that gift! Not only is it gorgeous, it's an incredible step up in quality from our 30 dollar knife set from Costco!
I’m not a big fan of Shun before and all my knives are Miyabi and Takayuki but after I watch this video and how you describe each knives made by Shun now I want to buy them all especially the last one..thank for sharing the knowledge Ryky!!
my wife just spoiled me by buying 12 different Shun Premier knives for me as my Christmas gift. i cant wait... ive never had any experience with a high caliber knife
I've been using my Shun dualcore Kiritsuke for about 4-5 years now and it's my all time favorite, it's an extension of my right arm at this point lmao. I've gotten better at sharpening regularly as of late but before I was only sharpening it once every 6 months or so and I never had anyone borrow it and have anything negative to say. 10/10 if I lost it today I would have one on the way by tomorrow.
I love that cutlery and more is teaming up with BURRFECTION I have been watching his videos for a long time and bought his entire knife sharping set up Carlisle 4" tub, naniwa sink bridge, stone holder and shun 300/1000, king kds 1000/6000 (dope set up a MUST if you hand sharpen) gotta keep the SHUN EDO set razor sharp witch I did buy from cutlery and more along with maaaaaaaaaaaaaany other items. MUCH SUCCESS TO YOU RYKY TRAN!!
I'm looking for a new knife, but I'm stuck between a few choices, firstly I can't decide between the premier and blue steel lines, and second, the kiritsuke and chef style of knife, anyone have any experience or knowledge that could help me decide?
I just bought shun this Christmas ... when it's time to sharpen the blade what is recommended method , sending to shun or is it ok to find a pro local to where I live ...all the best thanks
do you still have the shun blue kititsuke? lolz i know what ot is before you reviewed it but i used to have one bit sold it to a sushi chef and i want it back or another one!!! let me know of i can buy it from you... Corona free pf course.
MaZEEZaM yes you can i have two. hard to come across you might need to find a shipping contact in another country who will buy the knife and you buy it from him and ship it to aus. alot of people make a living of doing that so do some research and shpuld be easy to find a genuine person
manuel minassian depends damascus is normally a low and high carbon steel these steels can be literally anything ive seen a Damascus with white and blue steel. also the shun whith blue steel has stainless steel cladded. damascus blades also have a steel in the middle of the blade that does the cutting and the damascus is just for looks and doesnt cut. basically Damascus looks stunning and trust me you won't regret it. also can get damascus with blue steel cutting edges so just depends
@@faithmarks2369 i love the design and it cuts like butter right out the box. Its a bit lower maintenance than some similar priced knives too. From what i hear the blue steel is even better so id skip the hero if ur gonna upgrade.
I came back from Japan after 20 living in Kichijoji, Tokyo. I love Japan. Worked for NHK and taught at Tonjo. Recently, I purchased six Shun knives for my kitchen. One knife was sharp, the other five very dull. The knife's surface on all of them scratches extremely easily. The metal is soft and scratch easily. I wish I brought my kitchen knives back with me. They were great. Shun knives are pretty but they are junk. The knives are back in their boxes and I use modest knives from Brazil that work great. Very disappointed.
I personally find your videos very helpful, but the camera pan when trying to give a close up can be rather distracting and be a little annoying when trying to focus on the knife
I was hoping to see the FULL LINE UP of Shun knives... To include the ones exclusive sold by William Sonoma I.E. Shun Fuji, Shun Hikari, and so on. Clearly Cutlery & More Can't sell then. But some sort of acknowledgment that not all of the Shuns were being show would be appreciated. Ricky... Your name and reputation is on the line. So while partnerships are great.. Try to keep your integrity.
hey guys, i am not a cook and would like a couple shuns to get started , would you guys recommend shun 10 inch kiritsuke ? i really love the look but i know looks arent everything lol hence is why im with my gf now lol jk
@@Parkster44 I have to say I agree with @WN. These knives are for professional chefs. There's really no sense in spending your hard earned money on knives like this if you don't have the skills to put them to good use. I'm not trying to knock on you, I'm just being honest. A set of basic kitchen knives will do the trick for you while you're learning to cook & your girlfriend won't know the difference.
Hi Chef! Japanese steels can chip because of their high hardness. They are fairly easy to repair and with Shun you can even send them to OR to be sharpened and repaired for free.
Only if you're cutting bone, frozen meat, or treating the edge rough by doing stuff like using glass cutting boards or cutting on granite countertops. Anything that will damage a Shun will likely damage any other high RC precision built Japanese knife. I've got a bunch of Shun Premiers and they're just as fantastic as my other Japanese knives, but I also know not to treat them like my European Zwilling stainless knives which are built for abuse. If you want to use any Japanese knife, use it with care and respect, and save the rough work for your European knives. Precision tools are built for precision work.

how would you compare Miyabi to Shun? are they on the same level?
@@p__jay In my opinion, Miyabi is like shun but just better in every way
Shun is epic, I've got 3 knives but might get more.
Insanely sharp and precise.
Thank you for this, it has made it much easier to choose which Shun range I would like to buy.
I just wanted to say, might sound weird, your voice is really nice to listen to.👍🏼👂🏼
my wife just spoiled me by buying 12 different Shun Premier knives for me as my Christmas gift. i cant wait... ive never had any experience with a high caliber knife
6:45 is that something stuck to the edge, or is the edge damaged?

@@idyllsend6481 If I were blind, I would not be able to see something on the edge (about 1/3 from the tip)

have you used a VG-MAX core shun knife (classic or premier). Any downsides to not having a core and cladding?

Where's the Nagare series? With 72 layers. Was really hoping to see those
My wife just bought me the premier serie knife kit. Its awesome 😎
Would love to hear what you think of their dual core (VG10/VG2 damascus) knives. Marketing BS or improvement over VG-10?
Do you have a video for the Dalstrong Phantom Nakiri/Chopper?
undoubtedly, the premier look the best. Shun updated the handle to blonde recently. could you film a video on that?
Can someone explain to me how something can be very dense, but also lightweight?
I have a 10 set premier plus a 6.5 nakari knife, I love it.
Please do a video on Shun Nagare
I heard the d handles are not made for left handed people as on the shun classic?
That's an awesome video you made 👍👍👍
Will Shun release the Magnum? It's essentially the same as their Blue steel.
Awesome :)
😆
They will but only for really really really good looking people
What about the Fuji line?
Guys which is the best kai knife for filleting fish ?
are theshun knives through WILLIAMS SONOMA DIFFERENT?
Question :
Will You please break down a chicken with a shun honesuki with the smallest blade ( I forget what length it is )

Can’t go wrong with chef knife style they can do everything great

Shun knives get free sharpening for life. You just mail it to Shun’s Oregon service center.
shun dual core is it a single bevel knife or a weastern like shun blue???
What about Seki Magoruku Gyuto?
Please review Shun Shi Hou 4 and AYU. Thanks!
Can you add the kaji shun please... thank you
Could you please review the Shun Hikari series?
Thank you
Great showcase of the knives! But why do you pan the camera when showing the knives? it is distracting.
What kind of chopping board is that?
Black walnut end grain cutting board
@@cutleryandmore Will they be coming back in stock?

Do Shun knives have a full tang?
TIA

Yes, just look at them
Why are there no Kai Shun Nagare knifes?
Blue steel all the way
Why?
👍
i am trying to find your fillet and boning knives and good knife to cut the meat into steak pieces thanks if you guys can help
A Chef's knife would be a good option for dicing meat.

How i can polish my shun to Loks like a New One the mirror effect is lost
You'll want to use a very fine grit stone to achieve a mirror polish. We recommend the Shapton 30,000 grit.
Nothing on Shun Kaji series?
We do not carry the Kaji Series so we were not able to include it in our line up.

The Shun Kaji series is also sg2 steel.
Chun premier ❤

Need an upgrade of this video, Shun changed their series....
I would like to see a video on the BBQ slicing knife
Is the pronunciation "shooon" or "shUn". I'm hearing it get pronounce in all sorts of different.
It is pronounced Shoon, rhyming with moon.

Beautiful knives. I'd probably never use them because I'd want the finish to remain pristine :)

Sold my car to buy a Shun knife...it broke the next day
The knife, or car?
Quit spinning the camera and keeping the knife centered in the shot. I’m going to puke.
Thanks for blinding me with the knives ... get the lighting correct.
