    You sir are a godsend. I bought this for a plow truck and couldn't get it to work. Do you know how annoying it was to not have google maps for like 8 months until I found this? Brutal lol. THANK YOU!

    Thanks for this video Matt, just pulled the Alpine extension cable from the iLX-W650, and replaced with a Anker USB-C cable. Will monitor over time to see if this solves the problem, once and for all. I was going batt !@#$ crazy for over a year with the same exact issue. Tried new cables (short Anker USB-C 1' cables thinking it was the overall length), turned off wifi and BT, and thought it was possibly related to cellular signal. So far so good. Thanks again!!!!

    FIXED!!!: I had the same problem. The solution isn't changing out the USB cable connected in the back of the stereo. For me, the solution was making sure I had a quality USB C cable connecting my phone to the stereo's front face. Apparently, the first cable I used should have only been used for charging. When I used the USB C cable provided with my phone, it worked perfectly. You would also have this problem if using Apple Carplay with a low quality lightning cable.
    Lesson learned: Not all USB C cable are created the same.

      Eh, I've transfered pictures and data, rooted phones where there should be absolutey 0 interruptions on all 4 cables I own. None of them worked for more than 5 seconds to a minute on this stereo. I don't blame the cables because even the cheapest of them should work and it should not be such a widespread issue.
      Head units are a thing of the past unless you own an older car, so I don't see why alpine feels it's important to issue a refund on a faulty USB extender they provided. Definitely a fault on once a good brand.

      Have this issue on one I just bought in 2023. Tried 4 different cables from 1m to 3m and all stay connected to android auto for 3 seconds to a few minutes and then it disconnects.

    It is because this unit was meant for Apple Car Play. Period. so that USB cable extension provided is for you to plug your Iphone into the head unit.
    awesome fix in using a regular cellphone cable. nice work.

      I bought the unit and am having the same problem. However, the head unit is advertised as working both with Apple Car Play and Android Auto. The box even shows both systems.

    Same issue - Just bought a Jeep Wrangler with this radio and Carplay worked fine for 2 days then stopped working. I upgraded firmware, tried multiple cables and now I'm likely to just replace the Alpine radio with something else.

    I have a Pixel 6 and have all sort of issues. Plugged a high quality USD dorectly to the ujit and it partially works . If the phone looses network connection, android auto disconnects. Then won't connect half the time.
    I'm about to sell this unit, had enough.

    I know this sounds weird but you need to get an Android auto compatible cable. I had all issues with mine and different cables. It kept disconnecting. I would up getting a AA certified cable and never had a disconnect after.

    • @mainematt1234
      @mainematt1234  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I did a lot of searching. I don't think Android Auto "certified" is a thing. There are cables that are listed with Android Auto in the title - probably for sales reasons. It looks like Anker and Aukey are among the most compatible. Both of which I tried.

    THANK YOU for the video.
    I have the same problem w/ an Alpine ilx-407. I had a Pixel 2 phone and it 'started' disconnecting. I changed phones to a Nord 1 plus and the same thing happens. I notice on my 23 min drive to work that in the morning the phone will stay connected for 15-ish mins and then disconnect. In the afternoon, it doesn't last as long, maybe 7 mins and then reconnection is almost impossible. So, I'm wondering if heat isn't an issue. I live in Northern California and our mornings have been 40-ish w/ the day being in the 60's or so.
    I will try changing the the cable. Pretty frustrating and seems like a problem w/ the Alpine decks, imo...

    • @paparube
      @paparube 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Mine seems to have the same issue with heat. Did you by chance solve the issue?

    • @markcjohnsen
      @markcjohnsen 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Oddly, I got a 2nd phone, a nord one plus n10 and it would still disconnect. But, I didn't like that phone and got a Pixel 6a LAST WEEK. I've had NO disconnects with the new phone.
      that being said, my mechanic said I had a short somewhere that was affecting my air conditioner. So, either fix in the short of the new phone seems to have fixed it.
      Otherwise, I just quite using android auto - it was so frustrating. really unhappy w/ the technology and how it worked like that.

    I have this same issue. It was a problem on my Note 9 but its even worse on my Note 20. I wish they would resolve this issue from their side. I have the amp that hooks onto the back of the head unit so I don't have much wiggle room for connecting a different usb cable.

    • @mainematt1234
      @mainematt1234  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah I opted to not get the amp. The would make using a oem phone cable tough. You'll need a 90 degree plug.

    Thank you I just bought a car that has that same radio in. It could figure out why the Bluetooth wouldn’t work or the Apple CarPlay. I was about to get ready to throw it out the window.😅 but I still have to find a way to run the yellow cab with the blue runner on it somewhere so I can change my settings

      @@436bdw yes you can. At the time I didn’t know you have to have the yellow cable with the blue runner to a ground and then setup your settings. I mainly use CarPlay now.

    Please update us if it happens to stop working. I went through the same process it sounds like you have, ended up using a regular decent quality USB a to c cable, and that worked for about 2 months before that stopped working. Have tried other cables, and have tried upgrading firmware, downgrading firmware, updating and downgrading apps, nothing seems to work.

    • @mainematt1234
      @mainematt1234  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Update. It stopped working, it would disconnect intermittently without touching anything. Sorry all. Looks like this headunit does not play well with some phones. In my case at least with the Pixel 3xl I'm out of luck. I returned the unit and went with another brand. Best of luck.
