  • We filmed as Market Basket in Milford, NH destroyed an active nesting habitat for red-winged blackbirds and grackles in violation of the Migratory Bird Treaty Act.
Before the demolition, baby birds were observed. We were able to rescue one fledging who was moments away from being killed.

You do realize this is the POLLUTED run off water that carries all kinds of oils, gas and whatever else might leak from car engines off the roadways and parking lots? This is not a wetland but a drainage ditch.

Indeed, one purpose of a retention pond is to treat stormwater runoff and improve water quality. Best management practices for maintenance take into account wildlife and wetland habitat.

No matter what it is, it contains wildlife and biodiversity. Destroying it is a crime.

Market Basket owns the lot (13-12-1). We conversed with store management. The state liquor store is a tenant.
