Great video! I just received my first IngramSpark hardback children's book sample. I choose a standard color print and that is definitely below the quality of the KDP paperback color book. But what I really don't like is a white area shoving in the binder. I have some of the pages set up like spreads and this is ruining everything. Is this normal for IngramSpark hardcovers? Thanks:)

Hi Bethany, I am writing a childrens book and is color with roughly 12 pages 8.5 x 8.5 and 390 words for ages 0-8 is this a publishable on IngramSpark? is there an information tab i can look at to see what they accept, i dont see one. Help! When I get to the Agree to pay the fee part of the order, I get a message that says, "Your ebook will now be sent to retailers. Would you like to proceed?" But I have set my publication date for two weeks from now. Why did I get that message, but you didn't on this video?

Hey! I format in InDesign (and have a full formatting series on my channel that is step by step) and for pre orders for hardcover/paperback you can use IngramSpark and ebooks you can use KDP/IngramSpark/D2D. I hope that helps!

You said you have the hardcover and a soft cover version on ingramspark. Can you explain how you upload the print version to Ingramspark? Do you start the whole process from scratch like you would when you upload the hardcover, as if it were a totally separate book? Or is there a way from your hardcover files to just have a softcover option?
Start over but choose paperback when you get to that step. You can use the same interior but the cover files are sized slightly different. I hope that helps! 😊

Underneath "Title" click on the dropdown menu that says "Show more field to improve book optimization" - it should be there.
Hi Bethany, Thanks so much for sharing your wisdom. I had a slightly different experience than yours and I was wondering if you or someone reading might be able to advise. When I went to upload my manuscript it asked to send me an upload link via email. So I did that and when I clicked on the link and I thought uploaded it, it wouldn't allow me to hit continue. Not sure why I got the link in the first place or if I successfully uploaded but I suspect not. Appreciate any help. (And yes, I've emailed support but I figured you might be quicker.) Thank you!
Hi, just dropping a comment to ask if you figured out the problem because I am facing the same issue with the link.
I had the same or similar issue and deleted the book and started all over again making sure I do not click on the book building button. My book is 8x10 inches so their book-building tool doesn't work for this size and I think that caused some issues and I couldn't choose my size at all, they assigned me a size 6x9 and I couldn't change it. Not sure if this will sort out your problem, but I just started filling out the form from scratch and I choose the button that said I will upload my own files instead of building the book with their tool. I think they assume some people will have a designer that will need to upload a file, but it's just confusing. Their set-up is not as straightforward as kdp's.
Very helpful. Some questions: does Ingram have a page limit for hardcovers? I ran into that problem w/ my kids book on KDP because it wasn't 72 pages. Also, what if you don't know your publication date yet? Can you save a draft? Thank you.
No minimum page count on Ingram like there is on kdp. And yes you can save a draft.
Hi. That was a good tutorial. Do you have a video on how to make the pdf of the content?
I don't, but I will make one in the future! When you save your file, there should be a drop down menu (in Word, InDesign, etc.) that lets you change it to save as a PDF.

Quick question. If someone bought their own isbn published through KDP, can their book be available everywhere else with the same isbn
Or that can only be done through ingramspark?
If you own the ISBN you can use that ISBN to distribute elsewhere, such as publishing through KDP, IngramSpark, D2D, etc. If you use KDP's free ISBN that ISBN can only be used on KDP. I hope that makes sense!
Hey Bethany, I just heard from another self-publisher that Amazon is having big issues fulfilling Ingramspark orders due to the ISBN’s starting with 979. Have you had any customers not getting your hardcovers even though they bought them?
I haven't had any ISBNs personally start with 979 and haven't had any fulfillment issues. When in doubt, reach out to IngramSpark for a direct answer on if it will affect your books.
Hi Bethany, thanks for everything. I see around the 1 minute mark you are entering the title of your book. I am wondering if there is also a subtitle textbox. If not, what is the correct way of putting in a sub-title?
Hey! I am working on uploading an updated video for 2024 of this video in just a week or so - so be on the lookout for that. You do have a specific place to add a subtitle, which will be in a little drop down menu that says "more optimization" which will be covered in the new video coming shortly if you cannot find it.

Bethany, If I've already purchased my ISBN numbers and published books through Amazon and decides to go through IngramSpark and have the same books printed, would I be able to use the same ISBN numbers or would I need to use different numbers?
You can use the same ISBN number if you purchased them and it is also used on the same version of the identical book. For example you CAN use the same ISBN on both platforms if it is an idential paperback version but you CANNOT use the same ISBN on a paperback and a hardcover. Hi Bethany, once I upload my book to Ingram Sparks and it goes global do I need to do anything on Amazon. Do I need to sign up on Amazon seller central.. etc
It will automatically post a listing for your book on Amazon, so you don't need to take any additional steps to make it available - and you will see those sales on your IngramSpark reports.
Hi Bethany, thanks so much for all the tutorials! I really wanted to use KDP, but my children’s book size is apparently a crazy one, at 11x8.5”, and out of dozens of POD companies, only Ingram Spark seems to print that size (I think LuLu does too but also not great reviews on that one in regards to royalties). I am very nervous to use Ingram Spark as I’ve read so many unfavourable reviews about them, but feel it’s the only viable option - I am trying to calculate the cost per book, and it will be $11.51 per unit price, but since I live in Canada, with the extra shipping and handling fee, it’s a whopping US$23.79, which seems absolutely insane to me - I honestly don’t think many folks here would buy a kid’s book for over $30Canadian. I know I wouldn’t!
Am I missing something here? Any info would be super helpful, thx
IngramSpark has ridiculous prices, even for the author side. I would try to keep hardcovers around ~$25-26 and at most $30 Canadian. There is always the option to use an offset/bulk printer to help lower cost per unit, however that comes with the issue of distributing and storing them yourself. Ultimately it is a lot to weigh out and perhaps play around with a different size and see if it is worth it to follow a different option or make your book worth the extra cost. Wishing you so much luck and I wish there was a simple answer.

Wait, lol I have questions. So once you publish the book through IS they will distribute it to retailers, etc. Anytime someone places an order through Amazon or another retailer the book gets sent to them from IngramSpark?
If I do like pre-sales I won’t have to order 100+ copies then mail out myself, right?
If you only publish through IngramSpark, yes, they are a distributor and fulfill the orders placed from outside resources. So if someone buys your book at Barnes & Noble/Amazon/Target/Walmart?etc., it would be IngramSpark who prints/ships/fulfills that order. There is nothing you have to do on your part besides collect royalties :) They will print/ship/fulfill and let you know how many orders you sold.
Hello, I've had issues uploading my title to Ingram Spark. I get an error for my interior stating it shouldn't contain color. It's a color printed book. So I'm very confused and can not find any support on this. Please help!
If it isn't something you can bypass and all your upload settings are correct it may be worth reaching out to IngramSpark support for further help.
Hello, please let me know that ISBN numbers are free on Ingramspark for USA self publishers???
Some offer free ISBNs however if you are publishing in multiple places it may be better to purchase one.
If I wanna publish a right to left manga how do I arrange the files, please can you tell me if I should leave them left to right and IngramSpark would adjust it for me or I should arrange the files right to left
Arrange them in your source file as right to left, the way you'd want it to be printed. IngramSpark will not rearrange them for you and you will have to have the file in the exact format you want them to print in. Good luck and congrats on your upcoming book!

Also does it matter if the barcode is on my front cover since it’s a right to left book, KDP didn’t accept this but would Ingram accept it?

Hi Bethany, I'm in the process of self-publishing my young-adult fantasy novel. I plan to self-publish my debut novel in paperback via IngramSpark, and also self-publish via Amazon KDP. KDP: paperback and ebook. I'm also getting ready to launch my Kickstarter campaign. I'm new to IngramSpark. Do I need an LLC to self-publish? I don't think so, but I'm not sure how to label the IMPRINT on IngramSpark's setup page. Any advice would be sooooo helpful. Thanks! Have a glorious day/evening/week/year!
Congrats in your upcoming book! You don't need an LLC but you may be required to have a business such as a sole proprietorship. Typically your imprint will be your business name. I'd check with your local government to see what is required in your area and it varies from city to city.

Is there any problem in uploading the same book with the same design on different platforms?
It is allowed! The only issue is if you choose to have expanded distribution with KDP (or another platform), you cannot list it anywhere else since it is already in distribution.

So, on a scale of 1 to 10, how difficult is it to publish on Ingram Spark? (I am not computer savvy, but I recently learned Affinity Publisher and made 4 children’s books.) On Ingram Spark, if I did everything correctly, but I don’t like the proof or illustrations are not placed correctly, how difficult is it to pull it from distribution? Finally, I signed up with a new account. Several days later without me dooming anything they sent an email to sign an agreement. I’m not ready to commit yet. Will I have to pay before I even list one book? I sent you an email. Hope you saw it.
You don't pay anything before listing a book. I set up the account a long time ago and only now submitted my first book. If you don't like the proof you don't have to allow the distribution of it. From what I've heard if your book was already in distribution with IS and you pulled it out, it will take a while before it will actually be pulled out, it's not immediate from what I understand.

Hello, I am a resident of Korea. I have a question about ISBN. After making the book, I want to post it both on Amazon and ingramspark, but I used the free ISBN from Amazon. Then, can't I use that number in IngramSpark? Or can I use it? I want to post e-books for both, can't I get them for free?
Ebooks actually don't require ISBNs! You can only use KDP's free ISBN with KDP and IngramSpark's ISBN with IngramSpark. IngramSpark will also distribute their ebooks through KDP, so if you want to use them for your ebook, then you are welcome to solely upload to IngramSpark, which will send out to Amazon. However, if you use KDP, they only make it available to themselves (Amazon). It all depends on the distribution you want and what aligns with your author goals. I hope that makes sense. Great question! I believe you can publish from Pakistan. However, I do recommend reaching out to KDP support for verification and for guidance on choosing one of the countries Amazon does have to select as your main selling platform (which will likely be the US) and to figure out how they pay you, if there are any additional steps, etc. since it is a bit different from country to country.
