What memories.both your movies and slides are GREAT! Denver was a single guys paradise. I was there May 64 thru Dec 64. Weapons control systems mechanic training. 32231-F. 3435th Student Training Sq. Went from there to Glasgow MT for 18 months then SEA, Philippines Vietnam, Thailand, till Oct 67. worked on F 101 's and F 102's
I was there from April to June of 71, was there for Mat Face Supply School, A shift, went from 6 a.m. to 12 p.m., already had my order's cut for Okinawa, AFB, had a lot of fun there at Lowery, being's back a lot of memories watching those movies.
I was trained here in 1990! Supply! Crazy how long ago it was! Lots of memories here! I work for airlines now and came back to see the base and boy has it changed! I’m a flight attendant now, come to Denver for layovers here and there. Always remember my time here as an airman
I was a little kid than, dad would take us to the comasary and BX. i spent mant an hour at the movie theaters by the hangers and spent the summers at the Offers club pool. Thanks for sharing these memories.
I went there in October1968 to PATS for 2 weeks; then to the 40th Squadron. Weapons shool for ADC. left Lowery in Jan. 1969 to Tyndall AFB Panama City ,Florida . From Tyndall to Ubon, Thailand 1970 to 71 Loaded munitions on F-4s in the 408th MMS
Well besides you I see one other comment from a person that was there at the same time I was there, Dec 63 - Dec 64! More snow had fallen and it was brutally cold and dry. We were also at Korat at the same time, Nov 65 -Nov 66. I have your DVD's love them! Great views of the base, Denver and life on base here.
I was in Lowry in 1956-57 for 331xx training. Everything in the video looked the same, until the shot of the interior of the barracks. We had open bays with stacked cots, and a common shower area. Chow hall certainly looked the same. We also got free transport to the dances at the Colorado Women's College - loved it! Thanks for the memories.
I was there in 64. 30th squadron. I remember the 19th Squadron being our rivals. I was in Fire Control School for the MA 8 fire control system. F 86 radar even though our base had upgraded to the F 105. I was New Jersey ANG our of McGuire.
Arrived at Lowry on Labor Day weekend, 1972. My first words off the plane were, "It's cold up here! Get me back to Texas!" I did my basic in the Texas hear of July n August. Shipped out in my 1505s. I attended USAF School of Logistics from September to early November, 1972. I lived on the other side of the base, near the old original BX and the Contrail Club. Loved the Contrail, set up like a hotel hunting lodge. We were 3 to a room. One other guy was in Supply school with me, the other was in weapon mechanic school. I tried to see the area every weekend. I was 19 at the time and loved it out there. Hated to leave.
Wow what a trip down memory lane, upon returning from Clark a.f.b. in the P.I. winter of 1968 my Dad was a instructor at the weapons/balistic missil school SMSgt Bill Grogan. We lived in base housing, apartment type housing right on Quebec and 8th ave. In 69 we got bussed over to Barret elementary as bussing just started. Loved colorado so much when I got out of the Navy I settled in Colorado Springs very close to the Air Force Acadamy. Great video!
I was there from 67 to 69, then got transferred to Johnston Island. Had a ball in Denver, partying all the time. Seems like they were getting back at me when they shipped me to that remote island in 69.
I arrived there in June '68 and loved it! I was in the PATS squadron as a shift leader (red rope) until May of '69 when I transferred to Barksdale as a 32130K (Bomb/Nav). Had a great time!!!
That video gives me chills! My Dad (M/Sgt. Miles C. Schaeffer) was stationed there in 1961-1963. I was 15 years old then. My sister and I went to George Washington High School. Thanks for memories.
@@2005Colorado Yes I am in the video. Me painting at 2:37, me with camera at 2:57, me in snow at 3:55 and me at the end in dress blues with a girl I had just met at the outdoor skating rink. We started dating and her family invited me to have Thanksgiving dinner with them, which I enjoyed very much. I live just a few miles from Lowry now, having moved here in 1971 when I was a ticket agent for United Airlines. Thanks for asking.
So glad you enjoyed the memories. At the time I uploaded this video You Tube did not offer HD. I should redo the film but then I'd loose all these nice comments.
I trained there at Lowry AFB in the munitions school also in1968 and went from there to Minot AFB, North Dakota where I stayed for a year before being sent to U-tapao, Thailand. I got to see what Winter was like there at Lowry and was glad that I didn't have to shovel the coals used in the heating systems there.
I was at Lowry for Supply tech school from October to December 1988; the barracks we had consisted of individual rooms (usually with a roommate), and ours had a chow hall inside them, so you didn't even have to go outside to eat (unless you decided to go to the Burger King across the street in the Mini-Mall). I had a great time at Lowry, and was lucky enough to leave just as the heavy snow started, so I didn't have to shovel any ;)
I was at Lowry from Dec 64 until Nov 65. This film brought back a lot of great memories. I noticed one shot of Barracks 984. I was a barracks chief for barracks 889. The mess hall looked like the same one I ate in for a year --- probably was. From Lowry I went to Kincheloe to work on F-106s weapon control systems. I thought it was cold in Denver, until I reached Kincheloe in northern Michigan. Also stationed at Tyndall and McChord. Great memories!
Great video. I was probably on the train with you from Lackland AFB. I went into the Bomb Navigation school. Thanks for the memories. I also ended up there two more times. Once in 1967 for Precision Measurement and Equipment Laboratory (PMEL) school, and again in 1982 for some advanced training. Great times. Thank you so much for the video.
Very good to see the base again. '72-73 PMEL, 76 Jan - Mar specialty class. 2008 I went to Aurora Community College, a few classes were near the last squadron headquarters I was assigned to. Arrived 7DEC72 -15F without any cold weather gear. Ah those were the days.
I was there in 64. 30th squadron. I remember the 19th Squadron being our rivals. I was in Fire Control School for the MA 8 fire control system. F 86 radar even though our base had upgraded to the F 105. (I was New Jersey Air National guard our of McGuire.
Festus... (Seinfeld ref'...?) :-) Thanks for posting. Great to see someone posted Lowry footage from the 60s... sad there aren't others who've done the same. I was a 40250 (Aerial-Combat Photo) at Lowry from April '66 to, I believe, August or September, with my first PCS to March AFB, Riverside, CA. It was an incredible period. I returned to Lowry in early '68, for special training prior to my SEA tour as a "Three-Striper" (then a Sgt.) With three other close friends also being assigned to SEA, we bunked in one of the training barracks. We were treated like kings. I'll never forget the "Pizza Guy" that came on base and in the barracks in his station wagon, selling "Hamburger Pizzas!" When we had school until near midnight.... that made an incredible "midnight chow!" Having gone back to Lowry in the past 15 years on business, was sad to see all those memories, and the base, gone.
THEFESTUS19: Thanks for the movie & slide show. FYI there is a Facebook page for Lowry AFB. I shared your movie & slide show with them. I'm sure they would love to have you join the group. If you have more photos they would really enjoy them.
I was their from 91 to 93. I really enjoyed seeing how it has changed over the years. This base I mean former base really means alot to me. You should see what it looks like now.
I was stationed at Lowry AFB from around August '59 to sometime in '60 for training on F-105 Fire Control Systems. Stationed at Seymour Johnson AFB for the rest of the time.
Thanks for sharing. I arrived in January of 1964 for 331xx school. Favorite memories were counting the dots on sin wave scopes, handling CQ duty with girls calling at all hours of night, Shoveling big pieces of coal into the furnace to keep warm, and a bar outside the gate near the bowling alley... Went to see Dave Brubeck in concert downtown Denver. Rented a Vespa 90 moped and drove up to Berthoud Pass. Trip back down was a hoot. Saw a Chrysler Turbine prototype on Colorado Blvd. Met a girls Dad who made a point of showing us he could take a cigarette from our mouth with his bullwhip. Thanks for the memories.
3443rd School Squadron January-June 1973. Attended Course 3ABR32231P F-4C/D Weapon Control Systems (AN/APQ-109). Returned from Osan AB Korea January 1977 as a Technical Instructor; taught Course G3ABR32132Q F-4E Weapon Control Systems (AN/APQ-120). Returned to Osan AB Korea 1980-81. Very cool video! I lived at 12th and Dayton when they were tearing it down (I think early 90s?). I remember riding my bike through there at nite when no one was around. sure wish I had a video cam back then. Its a yuppie village now but the museum is cool.
Nice to hear from you. If you would like to see more order a twin DVD set I made by searching for "Korat Thailand" on eBay. Best regards and thank you.
Thank you for your commemt. Denver was fun. Remember all you had to do was stand on a corner in uniform and soon a car load of girls would stop to pick you up.
Thanks for memories, I was at Lowery from 1962 through 1964. I was in an aircraft maintenance squadron worked on and flew on C-47's, T-29's and the H-21 Helicopters had great times, especially at the Fireside Inn nightclub in Denver where I had a part time job. The sad part of the memories is that our beloved Sergeant, Harold "Moon" Mullins was killed in Viet Nam while flying in a C-47 Spooky gunship. Thanks again for posting video
Brings back memories ! I was at Lowry twice. In 1960 for (6months) photo repair school, lived in the brick barracks. Again in 1960 for 9 months of weapons control school (MG-12) this time to the 3435 school squadron. In mid 1960 we were moved to Lowry 2 because the AF Academy moved to Co Springs. This was a big deal because we moved from an open bay to rooms shared by two, also we had real plates at the chow hall instead of stainless steel trays. Loved Denver, City Park, cruising on East Colfax, CWC, Western Drive in near Yosemite and Colfax.
