Absolutely awesome and a great boat ramp now I used to launch my boat many years ago on the old boat ramp now I am going to use the new boat ramp 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Hey Alan , my mate and I have been there a couple of times recently and found the set-up pretty good especially the lower part of the jetty . However we found that the last time we were there that the ramp had silted up and was extremely shallow . We think this has been caused by the new breakwall not letting the sand and silt being washed past as has happened in the past . They may have to dredge the area regularly . cheers Trippy
Thanks Trippy, Yeah I have noticed that too. At the end of the vid I spent a minute saying to launch at high tide and that if you have a bigger size boat to maybe launch at Werribee or St Helens instead, also had a pic of it in low tide taken recently. Cheers
I have been there in the Yak on the weekend when it was really busy and it was a nightmare. There was nowhere near enough parking, cars were parked on the side of the road for km's. Launching the Yak with the boats was hard, boaties were backing down the ramp when I was trying to bring the Yak up. To the side of the ramp it is basically a rubbish dump and is quite disgusting. Unless you get a long way down from the boat ramp you will be swamped by boats doing 400 knots as close as they can to you. If I ever go back there it won't be on a weekend.
Yeah it can be crazy there on weekend, either gotta get there at first light or fish it during the week which is what I do. There's very limited space there, but I agree some tidy up and access for yaks to the side of the ramp slightly away from the boats would have been a good idea.
@@fishingmad They really just need to construct a path for beach access to the side of the boat ramp for the kayaks. I would happily use and keep out of the way of the boats.
Sounds like a missed opportunity. When designing the ramp, they should have installed a narrow ramp on the protected side just for kayaks. They have done this at several popular boat ramps in Tassie and it been great. I don’t fish from a kayak anymore, I have a boat now but I know other who appreciate it!
Hey Alan awesome video! Been watching you for a little while now. Safe to say you are the reason I have wanted a kayak for ages! Would you consider making a video regarding your kayak and how you've set it up? It looks really nice and if I were to get a kayak I wouldn't even know where to start. Thanks in advance Alan!
I hope you are very well, thanks for the message I'm really glad the channel has been helpful and inspiring for you !! I have some really detailed walkthrough vids on the kayaks in the FishingMad members area, plus heaps of stuff on mods to your yak, how to buy the right yak, safety for the yak that sort of stuff plus there is heaps of kayak content, workshops, reports, competitions that sort of stuff, I try and keep the channel and TV show purely about the fishing adventures. If you need any more info let me know, happy to help. Regards Al | FishingMad
LOL yeah I've had a few shark encounters with the yak. I had one at the same location which I got on footage th-cam.com/video/B_eMbzdTD9I/w-d-xo.html I also had a massive one nudge my kayak offshore at Portland a few years back.
Hey Al, top vid as usual. Can I ask the braid brand and lb you’re using on the emeraldas and the rod please? I have the double handle in for service and need some new braid/rod. Cheers
Thanks !! The Emeraldas rod has 10lb Tasline on it which works fantastic. That emeraldas has a very shallow spool, so You really do need something with a very small diameter and PE rating
Love the renegades, thinking of buying a 460 or 420 myself. The ramp has been quite poor at low tide the volume of weed and silt is really bad at the moment. Id highly recommend trying to launch and come in around high or mid tide, otherwise launching at werribee, or st helens if around low tide
I think it would be too shallow there for land based fishing, on high tide maybe, but I recall coming back in at high tide and it still being quite shallow and weedy. Id recommend go to St helens, cunningham or even portarlington instead
Yeah, I agree. At the end of the vid I spent a minute saying to launch at high tide and that if you have a bigger size boat to maybe launch at Werribee or St Helens instead, also had a pic of it in low tide taken recently. Cheers
LOL I hear ya. I must admit I hate having to buy so many turtlebacks, i'm testing a lot different products at the moment trying to find more durable solutions that works as well on the whiting
Please watch this vid, it explains everything about the location which is Kirk Point boat ramp. Which is past Werribee and just before Point Wilson, Avalon and township of Geelong. Hope that helps.
Yeah 100% I pin the assist hook into the tail, with the assist line running about 8cm down. I have some vids on that, if you want a link let me know. Cheers
Nice mate that’s a great session hopefully I have the same luck tomorrow morning mate trying out the plastics cheers mate

I am very happy that the boat ramp has been fixed for us to use the old boat ramp was so bad now I can get back to fishing again 👍👍👍👍👍
Yeah the new ramp is heaps better, just gotta plan your day around tides, but massive improvement
Awesome session bloke
Thanks !! Much appreciated

Can you fish land based there
kayak fishing really is awesome!!
It really is! 100% agree

your braver than me only been in kayak once all i could think about was a great white taking half the kayak do you ever see sharks

I’ve just got myself a new 23 td black wicked weasel rod coming in the next few weeks keen as to test it out.
Awesome, they are great rods. Love the kilo class rating on those rods which are very versatile.
@@fishingmad yep mine is coming from Japan so it’s taken a month and a bit due to coming from overseas.
Awesome, I just got the 23' scratchy. Combined with td black 2500 reel. Such a nice combo, td black gear is super good and great value

Hi Al, Top video as always. Could you launch and retrieve a Renegade 420 on all tides at this ramp? Keep up the good work mate.
Love the renegades, thinking of buying a 460 or 420 myself. The ramp has been quite poor at low tide the volume of weed and silt is really bad at the moment. Id highly recommend trying to launch and come in around high or mid tide, otherwise launching at werribee, or st helens if around low tide
Thanks for the informative reply, Al@@fishingmad
How have you found the new Daiwa J-Braid Expedition Alan???
I've only used J-Braid Expedition a little so far, in my small tests it seemed pretty good considering what you pay for it.
They put the rock wall on the wrong side! You gotta watch the tides in a boat with this ramp now
Yeah I did say at the end of the vid that you need to plan using the ramp around tides and as ive seen a few boats get beached already there.
Looks great! Would it be a viable landbased option off the rock wall? Or is it very shallow?
I think it would be too shallow there for land based fishing, on high tide maybe, but I recall coming back in at high tide and it still being quite shallow and weedy. Id recommend go to St helens, cunningham or even portarlington instead
@@fishingmad yeah I thought as much. I often fish the other locations you mentioned but always like scoping out new spots
Yeah good idea, I'm advocating for more land based spots on west side of Melb.
@@fishingmad a decent fishable pier in werribee would be fantastic! Have you tried the new Altona pier yet?
Is that a petrol motor you are running??
No its an electric motor. 28lb FPV motor kit. Cheers
Looks great.. However Using it on anything other than a high tide is a different story..
Yeah, I agree. At the end of the vid I spent a minute saying to launch at high tide and that if you have a bigger size boat to maybe launch at Werribee or St Helens instead, also had a pic of it in low tide taken recently. Cheers
Did you guys find a life jacket there by chance cause I left Myn because I fogot it there
what length rod mate
Both rods were 6 foot 8 inch which I find perfect length for the kayak on a boat id prob use something around 7 foot.
Do Queenscliff fishing please
I hate you, Alan. I'd made a promise to myself, "No more soft plastics," and well, I guess I need some of those camo worms now... 😂
LOL I hear ya. I must admit I hate having to buy so many turtlebacks, i'm testing a lot different products at the moment trying to find more durable solutions that works as well on the whiting
Where is it
Please watch this vid, it explains everything about the location which is Kirk Point boat ramp. Which is past Werribee and just before Point Wilson, Avalon and township of Geelong. Hope that helps.
I'm assuming you pin the assist into the tail? Cool PFD with the squid graphic btw
Yeah 100% I pin the assist hook into the tail, with the assist line running about 8cm down. I have some vids on that, if you want a link let me know. Cheers
Hi Alan, another great vid! Would appreciate if you could share the link for the stingers, cheers mate.
ontheedgelures.com.au/shop/whiting-stinger-assist-hooks Hope that helps. Cheers
Cheers bro, you’re the best!
Go out at high tide and come back at high tide ok👍👍💦💦💦👍💦👍💦👍💦
Yep agreed 100%
Yes absolutely it’s very shallow at low tide
Unfortunately the ramp is now so full of silt that it is rendered unusable at anything but high tide. Even for a kayak
Shittest ramp ever wast of money
