I think he’s the only person from this show Lauren is still friends with. I think the other friendships were just surface level or ended bc they were just coworkers and the show ended and she went her own way. They seem really bothered by it. She’s now a millionaire and they are all stuck in the past.

Maybe Jen can shed some light on why back on the hills DVD box set there's a scene for Heidi's birthday where Audrina says in the commentary that Jen told her the reason that Heidi and Lauren weren't talking to her over the summer was because they heard Audrina was hanging out with Jordan (NOT Jason).

Whitney and Timmy are very careful about what they say as well. I’ve listened to their rewatch up to the same point as this episode and any negative things they say are about hairstyles or immature behavior which they are quick to point out is due to their age (although seeing these people at their age now they haven’t matured much). If she did though, the Hills would not have been as popular as it was. The whole Heidi, Spencer and Lauren drama was what launched the show into the mainstream. It's sad that their friendship wasn't the same, but none of them would be where they are without all of the drama.

It's funny how you guys are shocked Whitney got the spin off but that makes total sense because she was the quietest. I used to watch the hills every day after highschool and then I watched the city. It may seem odd but I explicitly remember me and all my girlfriends, our fave characters were Whitney and Audrina.. and the thing about Whitney is she was super palatable, likeable and comedic. She's subtle and I think young highschoolers responded well to it in contrast with the anger and drama Heidi and Lauren were displaying. I think Whitney had a good girl persona and highschoolers could relate to having to behave infront of parents or behave during school hours. So watching Whitney put on the good girl behavior was probably just more relatable for the shows audience demographic at the time. Also - she was close with Lauren and like you guys said Lauren had power.

It seems like Lauren was a pretty good friend. She make sure Heidi got on the show. Maybe as the show progress Lauren started to reevaluate her friendships and wondered How authentic they were? And maybe she felt like she was being used.

Why on earth would Lauren come on, you guys bash her every episode. Kristin for many years has stated that her Lauren weren’t close, but she would still treat her with respect if she saw her and would give her a big hug.
Maybe the things Heidi and Spencer were doing was fake and for the show, but it was affecting Lauren's ACTUAL life. So Heidi, you can continue to say that everything was for the show but that still doesn't make you look any better. And Audrina, you just sound ridiculous at this point. Saying you had no clue about anything and once again putting all the blame on Lauren saying you just believed and agreed with what she was saying but really didnt know. Take accountability for something! You do the same thing on this podcast, just sit there and agree with everything Heidi says but I guarantee if you saw Lauren, youd be so sweet and agree with everything she says. Why would Lauren ever come on after the way all of you talk about her? It's pathetic how much you all drag her.
Even though Heidi brought a lot of the drama to the show, Lauren was so magnetic somehow, which is what made it feel like her show. She just had that it factor that you cant really put your finger on, and as much as Heidi was very bubbly (in the beginning) and can be interesting to watch with all the pettiness she brings to things, she just doesn't have it.
It sounds like Lauren and Spencer’s Heidi had different visions for the show. Lauren wanted a more wholesome show about friends moving to LA and going to college. Spencer and Heidi wanted the show to be as huge as possible me and was trying to amp up drama.
The scene where Spencer is “flirting” with another girl is so EXTREMELY spliced up. The girls have different hair and outfits in so many different shots, and the argument between Lauren and Spencer is from the next episode with Jen Bunny’s birthday. That being said I always wondered what really happened that night since the producers obviously had to cut it together so botched up. Also I can see why Whitney got the spin off. She essentially is another Lauren. I’m sure when it came to pitching a spin off to the network the smartest thing to do was take the formula of the Hills and apply it to a different city but with a character similar to Lauren. Since the Hills was already such a huge access, it was a guarantee for approval and a good move from a business perspective. It’s essentially what Adam Divello is currently doing with the Selling Sunset series on Netflix, moved to different cities with some characters that are more spunky and some that are more relatable to lead the show.
Also you guys completely skipped the most important scenes of this episode! Lauren going over to Brody’s and then having that argument with Heidi where she tells her she has chosen! SUPER curious to hear the backstory on the scenes at the end of the episode maybe if you guys can touch on it in a future episode?

I agree as well. I think Lauren came onto this show to pursue a career in fashion, probably had a plan where she wanted to be in a few years, gaining a platform and also having a good time. When Speidi became a couple they wanted to be these villains for TV really crossing the lines many times. They represented trash reality, chaos, drama and Lauren didn’t want to be a part of that narrative. In Laurens mind the show was about her and Heidi going to FIDM and getting into the industry, but all Heidi wanted is to be famous and rich. I think in Whitney and Timmiy’s reaction video on Laguna Beach they talk about how Heidi specifically targeted Lauren in San Francisco to befriend her, because she was on Laguna. If thats true, i can understand why she didn’t trust people and had her guard up. That is really messed up.

Lauren said I will be there for you Heidi but I do not want to be around him. That’s life. I have had situations like that too. Some people have too bad of a spirit to have in your life. You must protect your space. Lauren was right to not want him in her life especially based upon how he treated everyone else he encountered. There was still a fun sparkle in Heidi’s eyes the beginning of this episode. It was nice to see. “I wish I would not have been such a jerk to start out with and made your life easier”… Some of the truest words spoken from Spencer to Heidi. He set a tone that could not be overcome :-/ I really like the Lauren and Audrina scenes this eppy 😍 The have these “pretty-chic” vibes when they are on screen ☺️ Audrina you need to stand up for the fact that Spencer was not a good guy and did shady shit to Heidi that you witnessed. It is getting a bit hard to have your back on things, Audrina. This eppy pieces together different nights at club outings. It contained parts of Jen’s birthday, obviously. I love it though because you can see how much disdain Lauren has for Spencer. No matter the night it is known exactly where Lauren stands with him. It was fun to see Lauren tell him off and walk away from him. The Brody and Spencer scenes are weird to me. I think it is because Spencer is not interesting. The flowers gesture from Heidi to Lauren was kind of sweet but where was it going to go, really? And why would Lauren know that was a joke that Spencer didn’t get them for her?? She knows he knows she does not like him. That Lauren and Heidi argument scene in the kitchen was so necessary. Because you see that two “friends” are not going to be on the same page about things going forward. Interesting that now Heidi says that Lauren did have her best interests at heart. And Spencer did not want a relationship until it came down to a paycheck on a show… that led to love. And Heidi, you say that Lauren has such a “hate” for you but she showed up for you as she said she would if you really needed her… mainly for your wedding. And you had the most heartfelt exchange with her when you went to People’s Rev to deliver your wedding invitations. Whitney is coming on?!?! Yessss! You all said that she would not come on which I had a feeling was not true. Interesting change in tone from all of you. I will not elaborate at this time on that though :)
I agree with everything except two things! First I have no problems having Audrina’s back at this point but hopefully she will continue to make her perspective clear as the episodes go by. Second, I think the spencer and Brody scenes are the funniest of the whole series! They crack me up together.

Great episode, getting better. Excellent points made on making someone choose, it’s an immature thing to do. And also keeping it to yourself. The 3 did a good job coming from years later and more grown experienced adults. Once Heidi came in she offered great hindsight as well. Perspective is key. But how come Audrina says “in my defense I didn’t know this was all for the show.” I wonder how different it would have been if Lauren didn’t just come out of a toxic relationship. You could see/feel her bitterness and how it came off on Spencer.

Heidi and Spencer are still together yes, but at what expense? He really did screw her over they both did. I think the clear issue in these comments and in the podcast is that no one knows Lauren's side of the story, and it is sad that she won't talk about it and let us all know. I think without it there's a massive missing piece and speculation leads to bitterness by all of us somehow. I don't think anyone was a bad person here or evil, everything is just all muddled, and it will also be forever unresolved because Lauren doesn't want to publicly talk about, which is fair enough as well. They didn’t pick it up but the argument between Lauren and Spencer in this episode actually happened at Jen bunny’s birthday, if you look at the outfits that Lauren is wearing and Spencer when they’re arguing it’s not the same as earlier in the night but it is the same as jens birthday where it’s made to look like Spencer/brody etc go home with Jen and Heidi but they don’t because this argument happens after. This was picked up in the comments of Whitney’s rewatch!

Actually…I really hate to say this..but Lauren reminds me of me with how if she doesn’t like someone….decided they were evil…and then maybe they start acting like they really aren’t that evil…still hard to get the “I can’t stand them” outta my head. It was clear even when Spencer did the playmate thing…that Spencer really did like Heidi. It was clear as a viewer. I never questioned if Spencer wanted to end up with Heidi. I questioned if he’d have a little fun before…but it was so clear Heidi was his number one.

It's funny how you guys are shocked Whitney got the spin off but that makes total sense because she was the quietest. I used to watch the hills every day after highschool and then I watched the city. It may seem odd but I explicitly remember me and all my girlfriends, our fave characters were Whitney and Audrina.. and the thing about Whitney is she was super palatable, likeable and comedic. She's subtle and I think young highschoolers responded well to it in contrast with the anger and drama Heidi and Lauren were displaying. I think Whitney had a good girl persona and highschoolers could relate to having to behave infront of parents or behave during school hours. So watching Whitney put on the good girl behavior was probably just more relatable for the shows audience demographic at the time. Also - she was close with Lauren and like you guys said Lauren had power.

Even though Heidi brought a lot of the drama to the show, Lauren was so magnetic somehow, which is what made it feel like her show. Heidi had different visions for the show. Lauren wanted a more wholesome show about friends moving to LA and going to college. Spencer and Heidi wanted the show to be as huge as possible me and was trying to amp up drama.
The scene where Spencer is “flirting” with another girl is so EXTREMELY spliced up. The girls have different hair and outfits in so many different shots, and the argument between Lauren and Spencer is from the next episode with Jen Bunny’s birthday. That being said I always wondered what really happened that night since the producers obviously had to cut it together so botched up.
Also I can see why Whitney got the spin off. She essentially is another Lauren. I’m sure when it came to pitching a spin off to the network the smartest thing to do was take the formula of the Hills and apply it to a different city but with a character similar to Lauren. Since the Hills was already such a huge access, it was a guarantee for approval and a good move from a business perspective. It’s essentially what Adam Divello is currently doing with the Selling Sunset series on Netflix, moved to different cities with some characters that are more spunky and some that are more relatable to lead the show.
That’s what I was thinking. It’s so obvious it’s put together because of the hair, the clothes and the voice overs

When Speidi became a couple they wanted to be these villains for TV really crossing the lines many times. They represented trash reality, chaos, drama and Lauren didn’t want to be a part of that narrative.
In Laurens mind the show was about her and Heidi going to FIDM and getting into the industry, but all Heidi wanted is to be famous and rich.
I think in Whitney and Timmiy’s reaction video on Laguna Beach they talk about how Heidi specifically targeted Lauren in San Francisco to befriend her, because she was on Laguna. If thats true, i can understand why she didn’t trust people and had her guard up. That is really messed up.

This was clear cut. Lauren said I will be there for you Heidi but I do not want to be around him. That’s life. I have had situations like that too. Some people have too bad of a spirit to have in your life. You must protect your space. Lauren was right to not want him in her life especially based upon how he treated everyone else he encountered.
There was still a fun sparkle in Heidi’s eyes the beginning of this episode. It was nice to see.

Audrina you need to stand up for the fact that Spencer was not a good guy and did shady shit to Heidi that you witnessed. It is getting a bit hard to have your back on things, Audrina.
This eppy pieces together different nights at club outings. It contained parts of Jen’s birthday, obviously. I love it though because you can see how much disdain Lauren has for Spencer. No matter the night it is known exactly where Lauren stands with him. It was fun to see Lauren tell him off and walk away from him.
The Brody and Spencer scenes are weird to me. I think it is because Spencer is not interesting.
The flowers gesture from Heidi to Lauren was kind of sweet but where was it going to go, really? And why would Lauren know that was a joke that Spencer didn’t get them for her?? She knows he knows she does not like him.
That Lauren and Heidi argument scene in the kitchen was so necessary. Because you see that two “friends” are not going to be on the same page about things going forward.
Interesting that now Heidi says that Lauren did have her best interests at heart. And Spencer did not want a relationship until it came down to a paycheck on a show… that led to love.
And Heidi, you say that Lauren has such a “hate” for you but she showed up for you as she said she would if you really needed her… mainly for your wedding. And you had the most heartfelt exchange with her when you went to People’s Rev to deliver your wedding invitations.

I agree with everything except two things! First I have no problems having Audrina’s back at this point but hopefully she will continue to make her perspective clear as the episodes go by. Second, I think the spencer and Brody scenes are the funniest of the whole series! They crack me up together.

Great episode, getting better. Excellent points made on making someone choose, it’s an immature thing to do. And also keeping it to yourself. The 3 did a good job coming from years later and more grown experienced adults. Once Heidi came in she offered great hindsight as well.

I wonder how different it would have been if Lauren didn’t just come out of a toxic relationship. You could see/feel her bitterness and how it came off on Spencer.

I still think it’s unfair how Lauren didn’t know about Heidi and Spencer’s plan to bring the fake drama because she’s trying to be a good friend. Heidi and Spencer are still together yes, but at what expense? He really did screw her over they both did. She went downhill with her plastic surgery and before that she lost her family , her sister on the show and his sister also etc. So even if they're still together now i don't see it as a great accomplishment or relationship. I think the clear issue in these comments and in the podcast is that no one knows Lauren's side of the story, and it is sad that she won't talk about it and let us all know. I think without it there's a massive missing piece and speculation leads to bitterness by all of us somehow. I don't think anyone was a bad person here or evil, everything is just all muddled, and it will also be forever unresolved because Lauren doesn't want to publicly talk about, which is fair enough as well. But we will all wonder forever lol I think that's part of the reason why whitney and this podcast are so successful, we desperately crave those missing pieces!!

They didn’t pick it up but the argument between Lauren and Spencer in this episode actually happened at Jen bunny’s birthday, if you look at the outfits that Lauren is wearing and Spencer when they’re arguing it’s not the same as earlier in the night but it is the same as jens birthday where it’s made to look like Spencer/brody etc go home with Jen and Heidi but they don’t because this argument happens after.

Lauren made mistakes, as one does, but Heidi never admits that Lauren never actually knew Spencer and Heidi made everything up for the show. Everything they fabricated, they didn't tell Lauren at the time. She was fiercely loyal, thought she was losing a friend to a player.

Actually…I really hate to say this..but Lauren reminds me of me with how if she doesn’t like someone….decided they were evil…and then maybe they start acting like they really aren’t that evil…still hard to get the “I can’t stand them” outta my head. It was clear even when Spencer did the playmate thing…that Spencer really did like Heidi. It was clear as a viewer. I never questioned if Spencer wanted to end up with Heidi. I questioned if he’d have a little fun before…but it was so clear Heidi was his number one.

I know that a lot of the story line in this part of the series is about Heidi and Spencer, and I'm a big fan of theirs, but the focus when Heidi is on is almost 99% about them. It would be nice to spread the focus around the room with Brody, Frankie and Audrina and other bts about other members of the cast.
