In case anyone's wondering, in Russian (and Slavic overall) tradition, rusalka - mermaid - is an undead woman, tragically drowned, becoming a vengeful spirit. In contrast, vila is a positive aquatic spirit from slavs more to the West, not in Russia. That's why the kids assume the worst right away.
If anyone's interested in Russian folklore, there's an indie video game "Black Book" about a young rural witch trying to bring her beloved to life. Wonderful story, lots of research, much recommend.

the title "fairy tale" for the pv is a nice nod to her name. A "Vila" is a fairy or a nymph in slavic folklore (mostly south slavic, not so much in west slavic tradition). Vile and rusalki ("mermaids" in slavic folklore) do share traits too, so that's nice to see.
Her personality is amazing, her voice is really inspiring and comforting and I loved her concept! Also, Avgust is sooo cute, excellent design, I love him ❤❤!
1.8 is such a great version, PEAK again (it's been peak since 1.6 tbh, PERFECTION)

Is this gonna be the only place in lore where they don't discriminate against arcanist?
View towards arcanist are quite varied. Afterall Blonney still have a lot of human friends despite being an Arcanist.
I mean the further we get reversed in time, the higher the arcanist discrimination is. If you remember the chapter 3 history lesson, the discrimination in the distant past was a lot worse, like really worse. Except for this land though because Vila said that humans, arcanist and her own species work together in Rayashki town.
I feel like it should be less if we get closer to the point before they were discriminated...
@@yuriyuireny If we're living in the present day without the reversal of the Storm/Emanation (2007 in-game), i feel like SOME humans wouldn't even mind having an arcanist friend. It's a whole different story in the past though, like the medieval era for example. I wouldn't even be surprised if a random human peasant would just straight up attack an innocent arcanist during those times.
It can be, actually. In Russian rural tradition you have to pay all the due respects towards witches and mystical creatures unless you want them to mess with your life. That's why witches were never ostracized, instead, you couldn't celebrate a marriage without inviting a local witch, or when you intended to build something, a witch was to consult if there were any forces you could offend with your deeds and how to appease them. I have no idea how deeply Bluepoch writers delved into Russian culture, but yeah, Russia could be one of the cultures where arcanists would not be discriminated against, at least outside of bigger cities.
edit: it's also Soviet times, when the ideas of the "Brotherhood of Nations" were extremely strong. Like, as long as you share our ideals of building communist utopia, you're in the party, no matter your skin color and the like. You can find a variety of Soviet agitation posters with this theme, so it also fits. No reason not to welcome comrades from wide waters.

У них нет хвостов, заместо этого были длинные волосы, а сами русалки имел ноги.
Они могли быть голыми или носить белый сарафан.
Порой их изображали с венками на голове.

Little Mermaid in SINoALICE and Grimlight already exist. Both gachas based on fairy tales. First one unfortunately EOS'd however.
I don't think so. There's a few gacha games have mermaid as playable too though they're very underated game. Like the ones previous commenter said and another one is Guardian Tales last year.
