Really good question! You tend to build a Lost Chapter Mythic to get a great 1 item power spike where even with 1 item A-Sol's not going to be strong so you may as well go for the RoD as it's always going to be the best mythic once fully stacked - Other than that with not having amazing range he does need to be closer than other mages so the massive amount extra tankiness between the health and the healing is incredibly strong - And the main thing is his mana costs are just so high so why not get massive healing and movement speed buffs as well from RoD for spending all that mana! :D
Conq is definitely viable and in my opinion his 3rd best - looking at what all the pros build comet is great for surviving lane, first strike is better for scaling and conqueror is the greedy late game team fight one!
From the one game I played with Sol in the lobby my team hated it. They said he’s op and broken lol. We ff just to get out of the game and play a new one.
Compared to all the other meta champions at the moment the numbers are pretty low combined with their mana cost - but I mean sure it’s definitely not the worst in the world if your opponent lets you Q them often!
100% honestly I reckon they’ve done a great job with him - a champion that’s meant to be super limited early to become this unbound super strong cosmic dragon I think is pretty fun design!

Yeah I do agree that his kit before was unique and definitely League can get repetitive with some kits but I think they've done a great job keeping him an incredibly unique champ!
much better this way. more easy to balance , more fitting thematically and less cancerous to play against. the old ASOL was so frustrating as he would just play like a talon and push roam for all eternity. not very fun to play against. his stars were unique but created more problems than cool moments IMO.

Why Rod of Ages? I can see so many reasons to build CotSQ, Liandry's or Tempest but not Rod even if he's a late game scaler.

Who counters this champ it’s becoming hard to play in ranked
Your best bet is AD assassins who can just keep killing him - but honestly he’s hard to deal with right now!
Use CCs when Asol uses Q or W.
Win the game before 30 minutes otherwise he's auto win by around that time even if he was behind, as long as he has peel.
